The THRIANTA RABBIT is an eye-catching, brilliant, red rabbit with fawn coloring under its paws and tail.  The fur is soft, dense and medium in length.  The ideal senior weight for this compact breed is 5 to 6 pounds.

Originating in the Netherlands, the Thriantas were further developed in Germany before being imported into the United Kingdom in the early 1980's.  During the 1990's, the breed arrived in the United States from both the Netherlands and England.   ARBA Secretary, Glen Carr, is responsible for the acceptance of the Thrianta breed in the Standard of Perfection for rabbits and cavies in the U.S. on February 1, 2006.

While maintaining our consistantly firey color, Sunrise Creek Farm is dedicated to outstanding conformation of these newly developing rabbits.  We are focused on meeting the Standard in every way, but are especially proud of the short heads and thickly furred ears that our offspring sport with their short, smoothly rounded bodies.

Sunrise Lunar; a buck from BH's Redman and Pacific Jill.  This boy already has 7 legs and was offered for sale at the Washington State Convention in June '08.  He sold before the show began and is now owned by Ken Motz and family in Oregon.

2009 ARBA Nationals in San Diego, California!

Woo Hoo!  North meets South!  Cameron and I traded our bunny boots and parkas for flip-flops and t-shirts when we headed to San Diego for the ARBA National Convention and Show from November 1st through the 5th.  We met up with old friends and met many new friends during the show and had a GREAT TIME!

In fact, we made friends with folks from as far away as Australia!  Meet John and Penny Pricket from the Australian Rabbit Breeders Association.  We met them in the Youth Barn when they were checking out the Thrianta Rabbits.

Everyone knows the character below.  This is Glen Carr, the current president of the American Thrianta Rabbit Breeders Association who is also responsible for the recognition of our unique  breed.  Here he is registering rabbits for Charlie and CJ.

Below is the American Thrianta RBA booth.  Like our favorite breed, this booth did not lack for color, thanks to Anne Ott.  Here she is pictured in the middle with Marianne Mairs on the left and me on the right.

Since Charlie and CJ were at home minding the farm while their parents were out to play, Cameron had to accept their awards at the Thrianta Breakfast.  CJ won 1st place Sr. Doe and Charlie won 1st place in Fur.

All of the rest of the top Youth Division Awards were swept up by this lovely young lady from California.  I thought I would never forget her name because we were so impressed by her.  Alas, my memory is not as impressive as it should be and all I can remember is that her first name starts with a J and her last name is Beyer.  (She has a sister named Jessica.  Why can I remember that and not her name?)  When I remember, or someone jogs my memory, I will come back in here and fix this.  Help somebody!  E-mail me with her name, please.

Also at the Thrianta Breakfast are our friends and tough competitors, Ken Motz, and Bill and Marianne Mairs.  We have fun hanging out and learning from each other.

2009 THRIANTAS!

Just because we haven't shown this spring, doesn't mean we haven't been busy in the rabbit barn!  I believe that we have produced some of our most promising animals to date and can't wait for them to hit the show tables.  I tried to take some pictures today and was reminded of why we have to practice with our animals before we put them in front of the judges.  What squirrely little rascals they can be!

Meet a couple of Sunrise Creek's latest Thrianta Rabbits:

Penny is exactly what we had hoped for when we bred her champion parents together.  No snagging on the hips or feeling pin bones on this girl!  She is round and smooth from beginning to end with color that goes deep and true.  At nearly 6 months of age, this compact little girl weighs in at 5 lbs. 4 ounces.  Update:  May 2nd, Penny earned her first leg as a Best of Breed on Enlow Walker's table at the ARCBC Show!)  Granded out on August 15, 2009!

I wish I wasn't in such a jokey mood when I named this guy 'Bob'.  He certainly deserves better.  But Bob is my true buddy and pal on top of being good looking, fun loving, and a prolific father!  He took Best of Breed at the last show we went to and we can't wait to put him back on the table again.  At nearly 11 months of age, this handsome half Sunrise, half Mairs creation weighs 4 lb.s -14 oz.s!  Update:  Bob won another leg for Best of Breed under judge Nancy Richmond of Idaho at the ARCBC Show on May 2nd!)  On June 13, Bob was entered in three shows in an effort to win him his remaining leg for championship.  He was up against strong comptetition and came home with all three Best Of Breed wins!  His previously never shown sister, Sunrise Sally, won two legs for Best Opposite.

Dream a little Dream:  The ink isn't even dry in her over-sized ears, but I have a good feeling about this newest youngster.  Her mother is a doe I purchased from Bill Mairs at the 08 Washington State Convention and bred to Sunrise Bob.  Dreamy didn't have any choice about being so deeply and completely red.  Her round little body and sweet nature make her a wonderful package to cuddle.  Update:  Dreamy won Best Opposite of Breed under judge Nancy Richmond on May 2nd!)

Rose had this beautiful litter of 6 in June of 2008.  She was recently bred back to Sunrise Bob for a litter that was born August 7, 2009.  Available for deposit now:  One VERY nice buck available that will be shown at the 2009 ARBA National Convention!  Contact us by e-mail for pictures and more information.

AVAILABLE AT SAN DIEGO IN NOVEMBER!

Sunrise Bill is a litter mate to the above Sunrise Bob.  Born 7/24/08, he is out of Sunrise Aurora and a champion Mairs buck from the 08 Washington State Convention.

Bill doesn't need to brag about his parents because he has bragging rights of his own.  This handsome little grand champion devil weighs a mere 4 lb.s -12 oz.s as a mature one year old male.  If your herd is pushing their weight limits, this guy might be what you are looking for.  The judges' most common comment on this guy was that 'he is truly on fire!'  He is brilliant red to the skin and sports a full wrap job.

He has one litter about to hit the nest box soon, so I cannot tell you what his track record is yet.  If his family is any indication, there will be little to wonder about.  Bill is part of the 'Fab 4' litter.  This litter was so hot that I couldn't make any decisions on who stays and who goes.  Three of this litter have already obtained their grand champion status with legs to spare.  The fourth is a doe that is my favorite.  I sent her straight into breeding.  She currently has two legs and one offspring doe that is fully championed out already!  Check out pictures of Sunrise Bob (above) and Sunrise Sally (below).                       SOLD

Sunrise Sally

Sunrise Sally is is full littermate to Sunrise Bob, Bill, and Marianne.  Born on 7/24/08, she weighs 5 pounds 11 ounces.  She is a firm, athletic doe that should have been shown.  Terrific color, nice head and ears, smooth over the hips.  I would have liked to have seen her fuller in the hindquarters where her fanny meets the table, but everything about her screams SMOOTH.  This lovely girl should be producing litters for someone's rabbitry.  UPDATE:  I entered Sally in the June 13 show against considerable competition.  She took two legs for Best Opposite of Breed on that day!  Her littermate, Bob, took Best of Breeds.  This is a very impressive family of rabbits.  On July 18 & 19, Sally took two more legs for BOSB at the Alaska State Rabbit and Cavy Show.  She was topped only by her brother Bill who took the BOB's.  She is now a finished grand champion!       SOLD

Kar Mar Charisma

This grand champion doe is a daughter of Carr's Give A Hoot and g.c. B.H.s Redman born on 10/25/07.  This picture is a little rough as she just came off a litter.  She was actually registered at the time this photo was taken and weighed 5 lbs - 14 ozs.  Reconditioned, she now weighs about 5 lbs - 11 ozs.

The judges made her a grand champion (4 legs), but her name "Charisma" is justified too.  She is sweet, sweet, sweet!  She is easy to show and handle and would even make a nice animal for a youth to show and care for.

               SOLD

Sunrise Rose at Dawn

Sunrise Rose at Dawn is just what your rabbitry needs if you have any color challenges.  Dawn carries her rich red color all the way to the skin and all the way around.  She also has the darkest toenails I have ever seen on a Thrianta.  Born 6/3/08 and weighs 5-12.  Her dam is Grand Champion Irish Rose and her sire is Grand Champion Sunrise Lunar (photo at top of page).

Her strong points are her color, smooth hips, short loin, nice head, and well furred ears.  Her faults are that her shoulders are longer than I would like and her pin bones can be felt.  Her coat could be denser, but the length is good and her color is excellent.  Dawn will be a real loss to us since she is the most outgoing, sweet natured, and affectionate doe we have ever had.  Dawn is a proven doe and an excellent mother.                                               SOLD

These rabbits would make for an excellent start for someone just beginning in the breed or make a great addition to an existing rabbitry.  We also have a few juniors that have not been advertised so be sure to ask us about them.  See our for sale page for more details and please contact us with any questions.

Here is a wonderful picture of Jill as she prepares her nest for her latest litter.

Here is a peek at Jill's babies while they are still only a couple of hours old!
