Sundale Stud

Arabian Performance Horses

Sundale Stud is a small, family owned and run stud located about 30km north east of Perth, Western Australia.   Situated in Upper Swan, the stud is set at the base of the Brigadoon hills which provides many kilometres of riding over undulating terrain and amazing views of the city.

The stud was founded in 1961 by the Late Mrs Wynne Young.  Wynne originally bred Palominos and ponies, however breeding Arabians became a focus point in her later years.

During the 22 years Wynne was breeding horses under the Sundale prefix, she produced several very successful Palominos and was a founding member of the WA Palomino Association as well as an active member and supporter of the WA Royal Agricultural Society.

With the purchase of Ros Kashryl and Ros Miracle from Bill and Chris Ros, Wynne started to incorporate Arabian blood into her Palomino stock.  In 1980, the purebred arabian mare, Talquah Tamhie was bought from South Australia and bred to Kashryl.  The following year, Sundale's the first purebred arabian was born, Sundale Taskhiem.

In 1983, Wynne passed away suddenly which resulted in the stud's horses being dispersed and the Serpentine property being sold.  The stud name and two horses, Taskhiem and the buckskin pony mare, Pine Valley Cameo, were passed onto one of Wynne's daughters, Jan Henley.

Almost half a century later, the stud is still being run by Jan and two of her daughters, Natasha and Melissa Ellery and is actively involved in breeding, showing, dressage and endurance.

Jan’s main interest lies with the breeding of quality Arabian riding horses whilst also enjoying the more social aspect of endurance riding.

Natasha, having being bitten by the endurance bug some years ago, is a regular at the WA endurance rides whilst still continuing to compete in the show ring.

Melissa’s passion is with the training, education and competition of the young horses and assisting with the stud breeding program.

Sundale only breeds a couple of horses each year aiming to produce high quality Arabian and Arabian Derivative riding and performance horses that have the beauty, versatility and temperaments to excel in any discipline whilst being a pleasure to own.
