Sun City Tri

City of Sunderland Triathlon Club

Sun City: Tri-ing for 15 years!

Sun City Tri is one of the North East's leading Triathlon Clubs, catering for all levels from absolute beginners to World Championship medal winners. The club was started in 1993, so 2008 sees us celebrating 15 years of tri in Sunderland and also our move into the newest 50m pool in Britain! We have members who have competed for almost 20yrs, several Ironman finishers and lots of members who just enjoy getting fitter. Whatever you want from Triathlon we reckon we have the knowledge and skills to make Triathlon a great experience for you (and we have the "STAR mark" to prove it), plus we're one of the most welcoming clubs around.

LATEST NEWS

  • END OF SEASON PARTY: To mark the end of the 2008 Season, Sun City Tri is holding an informal party on Friday 17th October at the Quayside Exchange Sunderland. Tickets are only £5 each and include a buffet and disco. Tickets can be purchased by Sun City Tri members, Members of other local clubs and all those involved in the Sun City Triathlon. Friends and Family are also very welcome. Tickets are limited so please get in quick. The party will be an excellent way to finish the season and recognise member's hard work and achievements before the winter weather puts us all off training (if the summer rain hasnt already dampened your outdoor training spirits). It would be great to see as many Sun City Members there as possible. Tickets can be purchased from Angela Stevenson (email me, thanks).
  • CLUB KIT: we're selling off our current stocks of club kit at HALF normal price. There are details of the type of kit available on the club kit page, and you can email John Richardson for more information and to buy it.
  • CLEVELAND RELAYS: We're starting to put together teams to enter the Cleveland relays- the classic end of season event. Teams of three or four swim 400m together, bike together and run a 3 mile circuit as a relay (as in 4 x 3 miles). It's a real fun event (ask Mandy about the costumes in 2006...) with opportunities for mixed teams (2 male, 2 female), novice teams (first year of racing) vets (age 40+) and others (including a "novelty" section) as well as the "open" category (with male and female divisions), where you're likely to see the fastest times. It will cost £5 per team member and the club will cover the remaining part of the entry fee. Ian Walker is sorting out teams, so email him if you'd like to take part- it's a great first event and a great atmosphere with the added bonus of fast swim times due to the 20m pool they use!
  • 2009 EVENTS: we're looking for volunteers to take on the role of "event leaders" for each of our three club races in 2009 with Mandy acting as an overall "events manager" and providing support. Email or speak to her if you're interested or to find out more. We're also looking to expand the range of events we organise and suggestions so far include a bike "sportive" ride, a 10K run and a surf aquathlon on the beach. Again, speak to Mandy if you're interested in taking the lead on one or more of these, or have your own ideas for events. We'll give you all the support we can!
  • CLUB MEETINGS: there's now a formal schedule of club meetings on the handily titled "club meetings" page. These are the ones our club constitution requires but we'll still be able to organise others as and when we need to.
  • WEBSITE REORGANISATION: The site is arranged slightly differently, but all the information is still in there. The main changes are to the Race news (now called race reports and combined onto one page since the "news" wasn't really new and wasn't updated with regular reports) and to the events (now combined onto the "our events" page) with the navigation bar on the left rejigged a bit to make it easier for new members to find out about the club. I'm sure existing members know what they're looking for anyway! Apologies for the inconvenience, butthis should keep the site informative and simple.
