Discount Vacation from
I signed up for DishTV in November, 2007, and part of my 'free gift' was to be redirected to Summer Bay Resort for a discounted vacation. The lady I spoke to at SBR said I would be getting a vacation worth several thousand dollars for only $200 because it was part of a promotional offer through DishTV.
At first I was reluctant, too good to be true and all that, but she was very nice and assured me there were no strings attached. So I gave her my CC# and she charged $200. She then said they'd send me out my vacation package info within a week.
About three weeks go by and I never receive it. So I called back and they gave me a website URL to log into to see my 'package'. I do so, and notice in the fine print that in order to get my vacation I'd need to attend a sales seminar where some blokes try to high pressure you into buying overpriced vacation property. I was not told about this when sold the package, so I called back to cancel.
The person I talked to said I was over my 7 day cancel limit. I explained to her I wanted to cancel because I had been mislead, and they never sent me out the paperwork so I had no idea about the fine print. If they had sent me out the paperwork I would have cancelled earlier. She said there was nothing she could do. I asked to speak to her supervisor and she hung up on me.
I called back, got someone else. I told her I had just been hung up on, and asked for her name. She, too, hung up on me.
I called back, got someone else. I explained what happened, how I was hung up on twice, and she apologized. She said she'd transfer me to her supervisor, to please hold, and then hung up on me.
I called back, got someone else. I explained the situation yet again, how I was mislead, and hung up on a bunch of times. She apologized but said she couldn't give me a refund. I told her the person who sold me the package didn't mention I'd have to attend a sales seminar. She then called me a liar and said they record all their phone conversations to prove it. I asked for a copy of the recording and then she got nice again, and offered to give me a partial refund. I took it, as it was that or nothing, but I'm still out the rest of the money. And after researching this company, I have no desire to fly to Florida (I live in CA) to spend a "vacation" in some fleabag motel so they can cram me into a stuffy room and have con artists try to hard sell me vacation property.
I have since filed a complaint with the BBB (and noticed they have dozens of other complaints.) This company will give you a 'free gift' all right, but you'll need to bend over to receive it. If you see Summer Bay Resort coming, run away--far far away.
