COUNTER RECRUITING COMMITTEE: For this months demonstration schedule at local Military Recruiting Stations and leafleting at High Schools: Call 631-875-8647 or email rksrc@optonline.net (website: www.spncr.active.ws)

A committee is being formed to run workshops to help youth establish a Conscientious Objector (CO) file. If you are of high school/college age and would like to learn how to create a CO file, let us know. With the threats toward Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and our troops in Iraq, the Defense Dept. has to come up with bodies to fight their never-ending fight for empire. If there is a draft, this information must already be in place to present to a draft board.

ADOPT-A-HIGH SCHOOL COUNTER RECRUITING ACTION  - Flyers have been created to hand out at your district's high school to parents and students advising them of their right to opt out of handing their personal information over to the military. There is also information for students regarding the ASVAB test, the military entrance exam, which is given in most Long Island high schools as well as how to go to college without going to war. If you would like to leaflet at your school, call 631-875-8647 or email spncr@active.ws for more info or for flyers. Bulk copies will be distributed if needed.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED PROGRESSIVE TELEVISION:

(4/1/09-9/30/09)

If you would like to receive a weekly email of some of the upcoming shows, email ppatv@active.ws

Note: Channels 20 (public access) and 22 (government meetings) now require a digital capable TV or converter box and have been removed from the basic cable service in violation of contracts with the east end towns. Call your Town Council members to find out what they are doing about this.

NOTE FROM BOB GOLDBERG, Public Access Producer: I received some messages from folks in Suffolk about getting public access channels and the need for a Box from Cablevision. I spoke to a manager we know and learned that the company will be keeping its Basic Broadcast service level into the foreseeable future. In order to continue getting channels 18 and 20, Governmental and Public Access, will require having a Box. There should be no charge for it, as these channels are required by NYS PSC rules. This is the case before and after June, when Cablevision switches over to a completely digital system, throughout the Metro NYC area. If customers switch to a higher level of service, there will be additional charge. Please spread the word on this, as some people may have been charged for the box. If any one has a question or difficulty with Customer Service, please contact me at Thanks.

NEED SOME TRUTH?  CHECK OUT TRAVELING SOLDIER

Telling the truth - about the occupation or the criminals running the government in Washington - is the first reason for Traveling Soldier.  But we want to do more than tell the truth; we want to report on the resistance - whether it's in the streets of Baghdad, New York, or inside the armed forces.  Our goal is for Traveling Soldier to become the thread that ties working-class people inside the armed services together. We want this newsletter to be a weapon to help you organize resistance within the armed forces.  If you like what you've read, we hope that you'll join with us in building a network of active duty organizers.  http://www.traveling-soldier.org/  And join with Iraq War vets in the call to end the occupation and bring our troops home now!
