Tuesday 31st December 2013.

Lowestoft Area - The immature Glossy Ibis was once again present on Oulton Marsh. c50 Snow Bunting continue to show on the beach at Pakefield though mobile. 5 Purple Sands at Ness Point. 3 Velvet Scoter still off Hopton.

Minsmere - A Short-eared Owl was seen over the beach mid morning.

North Warren - 11 White-fronted Geese on North Warren, near-by 3 Bewicks Swan flew over Beaconsfield Road Aldeburgh.

Orford - The Rough-legged Buzzard remains on Orfordness. Park in pay and display carpark near Orford quay and take the river wall North for approx. 1.5mls to view area opposite the BBC building.

Felixstowe - A Storm Petrel was an unexpected find as it headed North off Landguard, also noted were Great Northern Diver, Great Skua and a Blue Fulmar.

Alton Water - The juvenile Black-throated Diver continues to show on Alton Water viewable from the sailing club.

Stour Estuary - 2 Great Northern Diver together off Stuttoness.

Monday 30th December 2013.

Felixstowe - A Great Northern Diver was noted on the sea from Landguard.

Brecks - 12 Common Crossbill West Stow country park.

Sunday 29th December 2013.

Lowestoft Area - The immature Glossy Ibis remains on Oulton Marsh from footpath between Fishers Row + riverbank. Another Glossy Ibis was noted South offshore from Hopton then West over Lowestoft North quay retail park at 11:25hrs and appeared to drop by Leathes Ham. 3 Velvet Scoter remain on the sea off Hopton. 50+ Snow Bunting still on the beach at Pakefield between the boats and Three Jolly Sailors pub.

Blythburgh - Ad Caspian Gull + 2 ad Yellow-legged Gulls Blyth Estuary.

Dunwich - 2 Firecrest were noted in Greyfriars Wood.

Orford - The over-wintering Rough-legged Buzzard was again seen on pylons by the BBC building on Orfordness + Glossy Ibis also present on the NT reserve.

Bawdsey - Drake Greater Scaup still on the lagoons at East Lane.

Felixstowe - 8 Snow Bunting still on the beach at Landguard.

Trimley - A drake Garganey was noted on the reservoir at Trimley Marsh SWT, near-by both Jack Snipe and Greenshank seen at the retreat.

Orwell Estuary - 2 Black Brants were seen late afternoon behind Colton Creek, Chelmodiston.

Alton Water - The juvenile Black-throated Diver was again seen from the sailing club carpark.

Great Livermere - A Ruddy Shelduck was present on Broad water Lake.

Saturday 28th December 2013.

Lowestoft Area - Glossy Ibis still Oulton Marsh from the viewing platform. 2 Rough-legged Buzzard Haddiscoe Island from the viewing mound at Waveney Forest. Hooded Crow mid morning by Ash Farm, Mutford. 50+ Snow Bunting remain Pakefield beach though mobile.

Minsmere - 2 Whooper Swan on Is.mere.

Orford - No sign of the Rough-legged Buzzard by the BBC building on Orfordness. Bonxie offshore.

Shingle Street - Short-eared Owl by Oxley Dairy.

Felixstowe - 7 Snow Buntings on the beach at Landguard.

Stutton - Black-throated Diver Alton Water viewable from the sailing club.

Brecks - 20+ Parrot Crossbill Spinks Lodge Mayday Farm + c50 Common Crossbill.

Stutton - The Black-throated Diver continues to show from the sailing club between buoys 8 and 9.

Thursday 26th December 2013.

Lowestoft Area - Glossy Ibis still present and showing on Oulton Marsh viewable from the viewing platform. 56 Snow Bunting on Pakefield beach. 11 Purple Sands at Ness Point.

Covehithe - Long-tailed Duck still on Covehithe Broad.

Snape - 2cy Iceland Gull was present on Botany Marsh.

Bawdsey - 2 Greater Scaup on the lagoons at East Lane + 3 Velvet Scoter offshore.

Stutton - Black-throated Diver continues to show from the sailing club on Alton Water.

Lowestoft Area - The Glossy Ibis continues to show on Oulton Marsh from the viewing platform. 2 Rough-legged Buzzard still showing on Haddiscoe Island. 64 Snow Bunting Pakefield beach.

Covehithe - Long-tailed Duck remains on Covehithe Broad.

Walberswick - c25 Twite on the beach.

Minsmere - Male Hen Harrier over South levels.

Orford - The Rough-legged Buzzard continues to over-winter on Orfordness favouring masts by the BBC building.

Deben Estuary - Male Hen Harrier seen at Hemley Marsh.

Crowfield - Red Kite over the village heading towards Helmingham Hall.

Tuesday 24th December 2013.

Lowestoft Area - Glossy Ibis still on Oulton Marsh. c60 Snow Bunting remain on Pakefield beach.

Felixstowe - Red-necked Grebe South offshore from Landguard + 2 Long-tailed Duck and 8 Snow Bunting on the beach.

Stutton - The Black-throated Diver continues to show at the dam end of the reservoir at Alton Water + 2 Slav Grebe off Rabbits Woods.

Shotley - Adult Black Brant on Shotley Marshes. Near-by 3 fem Common Scoter on the Stour at Harkstead (off Nether Hall); a juv Great Northern Diver also on the Stour at Harkstead just west of Johny All Alone Creek, and an adult Little Gull which flew NE through Holbrook Bay.

Tunstall - 1+ Parrot Crossbill seen today on Tunstall Common.

Tattingstone - A Black-throated Diver was present on Alton Water between Larchwood and the sailing club + Slav Grebe this morning.

Lowestoft Area - Glossy Ibis again on Oulton Marsh, cross railway and bird is present in fields North of the path early afternoon.

Felixstowe - Long-tailed Duck South off Landguard.

Friday 20th December 2013.

Lowestoft Area - Rough-legged Buzzard & Merlin viewable from the mound at Waveney Forest overlooking Haddiscoe Island.

Dunwich - 3 Tundra Bean Geese on flooded fields 300 yards North of Dunwich beach car park (almost certainly the same as the Minsmere birds seen below).

Orford - Rough-legged Buzzard still on Orfordness by the BBC building + Merlin.

Boyton - Pale-bellied Brent Goose with Brent Geese on Boyton Marsh.

Bawdsey - 3 Greater Scaup on the lagoon at East Lane.

Brecks - 10 Parrot Crossbill Spinks Cottage, Mayday Farm late morning (birds viewable from track without having to approach the cottage) + Great Grey Shrike present on Berners Heath.

Lakenheath - Merlin, Peregrine, 3+ male and 1+ ringtail Hen Harrier, c15 Marsh Harrier seen between 15:00-16:00hrs.

Thursday 19th December 2013.

Lowestoft Area - A Glossy Ibis was seen on Oulton Marsh at 15:30hrs only. 2 Rough-legged Buzzard still on Haddiscoe Island + male Hen Harrier.

Minsmere - 3 Pink-footed Geese over the reserve + adult YLG.

Tunstall - 8 Parrot Crossbill still on Tunstall Common though very mobile and elusive.

Bawdsey - Long-tailed Duck offshore from East Lane.

Felixstowe - Shag again early at Landguard.

Orwell Estuary - Greater Scaup on the river viewable from the strand.

Tattingstone - 3 Slav Grebe on Alton Water viewable from Larchwood.

Southwold - 3 Snow Bunting in the denes.

Tunstall - 8 Parrot Crossbill again Tunstall Common though mobile and elusive.

Tattingstone - 3 Slav Grebes on Alton Water viewable from Larchwood.

Stour Estuary - 5 Slav Grebes in Holbrook Bay.

Lowestoft Area - 2 Rough-legged Buzzards continue to be seen on Haddiscoe Island viewed from Waveney Forest mound + male Hen Harrier & c4000 Pink-footed Geese noted.

Covehithe - Long-tailed Duck on Covehithe Broad.

Southwold - Lapland Bunting still 50 yards North of the harbour mouth car park and showing well + 4 Snow Buntings.

Walberswick - The 1st winter Grey Phalarope was again seen on pools East of the Bailey Bridge.

Tunstall - 5 Parrot Crossbill (4 male) showed well on Tunstall Common between 14:20-14:45hrs.

Felixstowe - Shag again at Landguard + Black Redstart nearby at coldstore / shed 70 on the dock complex.

Monday 16th December 2013.

Lowestoft Area - c30 Snow Bunting again on the beach at Pakefield though mobile.

Southwold - The Lapland Bunting was again present by the harbour mouth car park.

Dunwich - Grey Phalarope flushed from footpath near Dingle Little Hill then flew towards the beach car park Fish and Chip shop.

North Warren - A 1st winter Caspian Gull was present on South Marsh + single Pink-footed Goose amongst c200 Barncle Geese and 2 Red-breasted Geese.

Tunstall - 10 Parrot Crossbill again Tunstall Common though very mobile.

Felixstowe - Shag on the point at Landguard early morning + Bonxie offshore.

Ipswich - Several Waxwing were seen in the grounds of Ipswich hospital late morning, but no sign this afternoon.

Sunday 15th December 2013.

Lowestoft Area - 2 Rough-legged Buzzard continue to show on Haddiscoe Island. 2 Firecrest present at Kessingland sewage works.

Southwold - Lapland Bunting seen by the lifeboat station at 13:10hrs.

Walberswick - 1st winter Grey Phalarope still on polls by the Bailey Bridge + Waxwing over the beach car park at 10:45hrs.

Aldringham - 8 Waxwing along Aldringham - Thorpeness Road.

Tunstall - 10 Parrot Crossbill again on Tunstall Common though mobile.

Deben Estuary - Adult Black Brant with c300 Dark-bellied Brent Geese at Falkenham.

Tattingstone - Slav Grebe + Goosander on Alton Water.

Brecks - 11+ Parrot Crossbill again Mayday Farm by Spinks Lodge early afternoon.

Saturday 14th December 2013.

Lowestoft Area - 9 Velvet Scoter were again today seen off Hopton. 2 Firecrest noted in Corton Woods mid morning.

Benacre - The Long-tailed Duck was again present on the Broad this afternoon.

Walberswick - The 1st winter Grey Phalarope remained East of the Bailey Bridge. Park at Walberswick harbour carpark and walk West along the river bank to view pools/dyke c200 yards before the bridge. Due to maintenance work NO access is possible from Southwold. 57 Twite along the shingle ridge between Walberswick - Dunwich.

 Stour Estuary - 4 Slav Grebes from Holbrook Bay + Mealy Redpoll at the sewage works.

Brecks - 13 Parrot Crossbill again at Mayday Farm seen late morning by Spinks Lodge then flew West (please respect residents privacy).

Benacre - Long-tailed Duck remains on Benacre Broad.

Walberswick - The 1st winter Grey Phalarope continued to show on pools by the harbour car park then on pools SE of the Bailey Bridge this afternoon.

Shingle Street - No sign today of the Black Brant on flood along access road, but 2 Short-eared Owl still present.

Trimley - 4 Ruff and 5 Corn Bunting seen between Trimley Marshes and the managed retreat.

Stour Est - 5 Bewicks Swan seen on the foreshore at Stutton at 13:00hrs.

Benacre - The Long-tailed Duck remains on the Broad.

Walberswick - The confiding Grey Phalarope remained on pools by the beach car park this morning though became mobile as the day progressed.

Monday 9th December 2013.

Lowestoft Area - 2 Rough-legged Buzzard still on Haddiscoe Island. 9 Velvet Scoter off Gorelston still.

Benacre - Long-tailed Duck still present an showing well on Benacre Broad.

Lowestoft Area - 2 Rough-legged Buzzard Haddiscoe Marsh viewed from the mound at Waveney Forest. Up to 12 Velvet Scoter now off Hopton early afternoon amongst the Common Scoter flock.

Benacre - Long-tailed Duck still on Benacre Broad.

Dunwich - No sign of the Hooded Crow on Dingle Marsh but 2 Spotted Redshank.

Orford - The over-wintering Rough-legged Buzzard remain on Orfordness North of the BBC building. Park at Orford and take footpath along the West side of river for approx. 1.5 miles at TM.445.507.

Shingle Street - 2 Short-eared Owl over fields opposite the tennis court late afternoon.

Bawdsey - 2 Greater Scaup on the lagoons at East Lane (moulting drake + fem/imm) offshore a Velvet Scoter was on the sea late morning.

Deben Estuary - No sign of the adult Black Brant at Kingsfleet but single Pink-footed Goose upriver.

Felixstowe - 18 Snow Bunting flew North over Landguard at 08:55hrs, offshore singles of Great Northern Diver and Bonxie noted (both South).

Brecks - 10 Parrot Crossbill seen at Mayday Farm at the South end of the Goshawk at 14:05hrs.

Saturday 7th December 2013.

Lowestoft Area - 2 Rough-legged Buzzard on Haddiscoe Marsh viewed from the mound at Waveney Forest. 31 Snow Bunting along the beach opposite The Jolly Sailors PH, Pakefield. 9 Velvet Scoter offshore between Gorleston - Hopton. 2 Firecrest noted in Corton Woods. Up to 6 Med Gull at Links Road car park.

Dunwich - A Hooded Crow was seen by the shorepools at Dingle Marsh + Spot Redshank & c30 Twite noted. A male Hen Harrier was seen over Dunwich Heath at 13:00hrs.

Felixstowe - 6 Snow Bunting briefly at Landguard this morning.

Stour Estuary - Adult Black Brant in field by Holbrook Creek (15:00-16:00hrs) then flew toward the Royal Hospital School. No sign of any Slavonian Grebes in Holbrook Bay. Single Pink-footed Goose on Cattawade Marsh opposite the Red Barn.

Friday 6th December 2013.

Lowestoft Area - 28 Snow Bunting remain on the beach at Pakefield.

Dunwich - 2 Velvet Scoter offshore from Dunwich Heath.

Shingle Street - Short-eared Owl again by Oxley Dairy.

Benacre - Fem Greater Scaup still on the Broad.

Covehithe - Long-tailed Duck still on Covehithe Broad.

Shingle Street - 2 Short-eared Owl remain by Oxley Dairy.

Felixstowe - 4 Long-tailed Duck South off Landguard at 10:25hrs.

Benacre - Fem Greater Scaup still on the Broad + Slav Grebe on the pits.

Covehithe - Long-tailed Duck still on Covehithe Broad.

Minsmere - Both Pom and Arctic Skua offshore today.

Tunstall - No sign today of any Parrot Crossbills on Tunstall Common.

Orford - Rough-legged Buzzard was again present on pylons by the BBC building on Orfordness NT reserve.

Felixstowe - Velvet Scoter North off Landguard.

Stour Estuary - 7 Slavonian Grebe in Holbrook Bay.

Monday 2nd December 2013.

Lowestoft Area - 11+ Snow Bunting on the beach at Pakefield South of the cefas building.

Benacre - Slavonian Grebe on Benacre Broad this afternoon + the long-staying female Greater Scaup remains.

Covehithe - Long-tailed Duck present on Covehithe Broad + 4 Sanderling & 20 Snow Bunting flew over.

Thorpeness - 5 hour Sea-watch from the disused caravan site today produced a good selection of birds with single Balearic Shearwater, 3 Sooty Shearwater, Leaches Petrel, 3 Pom Skua, 4 Bonxie, 2 Arctic Skua, 3 Velvet Scoter, 2 Goosander and in excess of 1000 Red-throated Divers noted.

Orfordness - Rough-legged Buzzard continues to show in the general vicinity of the BBC building + 2 Short-eared Owls. The Long-tailed Duck was again see on the river + Swallow around the quay.

Stour Est - 9 Slav Grebes in Holbrook Bay though distant.

Sunday 1st December 2013.

Lowestoft Area - 15 Snow Bunting present on the beach at Pakefield opposite The Three Jolly Sailors public house though mobile. 5 Snow Bunting on Gunton Beach. 2 Firecrest Corton Woods. 1 Firecrest Warrenhouse Wood. 6 Purp Sands Ness Point.

Orford - The Rough-legged Buzzard was seen well on Orfordness NT from along the river wall + Short-eared Owl. A late Swallow seen by the quay.

Sudbourne - Short-eared Owl seen this afternoon.

Tunstall - After going missing for nearly a week 6 Parrot Crossbill were again seen on Tunstall Common at 14:15hrs.

Shingle Street - 2 Snow Bunting near the Battery bungalow + 1 Short-eared Owl by Oxley Dairy late afternoon.

Deben Est - An adult Black Brant was seen at Kingsfleet amongst c300 Dark-bellied Brent Geese at 13:00hrs then further upriver at Falkenham Creek at dusk. A Great Northern Diver was seen on the river from Waldringfield.

Ramsholt - The ringtail Hen Harrier was today seen over Ramsholt Marshes + Green Sandpiper seen on flood by church.

Orwell Estuary - A Greater Scaup was seen upriver viewable from Nacton Shores.

Tattingstone - Slav Grebe still on Alton Water viewable from Larchwood Hide.

Felixstowe - 17 Snow Bunting seen briefly at Landguard then flew over the river towards Shotley.

Stour Estuary - Great Northern Diver seen off Harkstead + 8 Slav Grebes in Holbrook Bay.

Great Livermere - 2 1st winter Yellow-legged Gull present on Broadwater Lake this morning.
