Birding the county of Suffolk...and beyond

Updates

Updated - A little outing for a couple of stunning birds.

Introduction

My interest in birds started at a young age and unlike many of my friends it progressed through my teens and remains with me to this day. Initially my birding was restricted to Minsmere, not a bad place to learn the finer points of birding I think you will agree. However much of what I learned was through books and magazines, up until my late 20's most of my birding was done alone and primarily at Minsmere unless a bird was obliging enough to hang around long enough for me to hear about it.
As I met a few more fellow birders my horizons broadened and I was introduced to the delights of birding around Suffolk and further a field. I rarely travel outside the county for a rare bird, I am more of the thinking that one day the bird will come to me.  I have also undertaken a couple of birding trips, the first was to Kazakhstan in 2005 and last year to Lesvos. Both proved an invaluable learning tool where I learned a lot from not only the tour guides and fellow travelers but also the birds themselves.
Having done much of my birding at Minsmere RSPB I have never really had a local patch that I could watch. A trip to Thorpeness old caravan park changed all this and now I regularly watch it. Not only do the bushes hold lots of potential but it also sticks out a little further than the nearby coast line allowing slightly better views of sea birds.

This site is not only a diary of what I see at Thorpeness but also of any of the other "jollies" I may undertake.
