Julie Burbidge- - Ashmere Kennels
Breeder of my foundation bitch;
Aust & NZ Ch Ashmere Sweet Sweet Love At Suedanka - Imp Aust
Julie had never meet me but after a few phone calls she agreed to send me one of her most valueable bitches in whelp to a dog of my choice just because she wanted to help me get into the breed, for that i am most thankful!
Peggy & Tommy Hartnett - Teenalee Kennels
Peggy & Tommy allowed me to use Aust Gr Ch Teenalee To A Tee over my girl from Julie and that really set me on my way, the litter went on to produce my first Champion cocker and NZ's First Grand Ch Cocker Bitch - GR CH Suedanka Dared to Dream, they have continued to be very supportive.
Kerry Hutt - Kebarlea, Geoff Love - Lovlang & Colin Peel - Kokleone
Kerry and Geoff have been a wealth of information, giving suggestions on what would or wouldnt be a wise choice, it was Geoff's suggestion that i use Gr Ch Teenalee To A Tee, a litter which has surpassed our wildest expectations.
Then Kerry sent me my next import;
NZ RBISS Ch Kebarlea Kloak N Dagger At Suedanka - Imp Aust
A striking blue roan boy who titled with ease picking up a specialty Reserve Best in Show win and has since sired two litter of lovely puppies, one of these pups has become my first Australian champion.
Colin Peel seems like the friend i have had forever! He has been the voice of reason, often acting as my sounding board and that is very valueble person that every breeder needs, the one who will talk very frankly and tell you their opinion whether it is good or not so good.
After a very long wait - (about 2yrs since I first applied), and probably close to a million phone calls I have finally been able to import a dog from Colin & Geoff, and am thrilled with the young boy;
NZ BISS Ch Kokleone Key Largo - Imp Aust.
This young man is the progeny of a highly sort after black girl and one of the top producing sires in Australia and I am excited that he has been sent to me.
Almost 12mths after this young boy arrived I was thrilled to also receive the lovely blue roan girl 'Melody' who was owned by Colin Peel;
NZ Ch Westlake Stardust Melody - Imp Aust.
Colin was generous enough to house Melody for quite a few months until we were able to put her into whelp before she flew to NZ, she is well and truly part of my foundation in the breed.
Karleen Bennet and Lyn Kantek - Royoni Kennels
Karleen and Lyn have been so helpful in the next stage of Suedanka, such lovely ladies to work with, forthcoming with advice and information and a 'nothing is too hard' attitude. I am delighted to have the opportunity to import some lovely Royoni Lines via;
Aust Gr Ch Royoni Hes True Blue. - Bobby is the sire of Melody's first litter which has produced 3 NZ champions.
Aust Ch Royoni Ahead in Time - Dudley - 'Dud the Stud' - I am very lucky to have Dudley in so many of my dogs lines, he is the sire of;
NZ Ch Kokleone Key Largo - Imp Aust
The grand father of;
NZ GR Ch Suedanka Dared to Dream
NZ Ch Suedanka Courage Under Fire
NZ Ch Suedanka True Blue Melody
NZ Ch Suedanka Flirt N A Skirt
NZ BIS & RBISS Ch Penita Can U Feel The Magic - Imp Aust.
Thank you to my NZ Mentors, and there are many, some have just given me a quick bit of advice, others have really taken an interest in my program and plans, many have backed me up when others are not so complimentary, all have played a very valueable part in my path so far, but the one person that really stands apart from everyone is;
Robyn Baylis - Fleckwood Kennels
Robyn was for many years, my constant travelling companion, she was a second mother when my mother moved overseas, she gave me advice, she jumped in the car and drove 2hrs to my house when i needed someone to sit with me after an operation.
She was on the end of the phone when i had concerns when whelping a bitch or concerns with a puppy, no matter what time of night, she would answer the phone and give me matter of fact advice.
Robyn was such a knowledgeable breeder and exhibitor, liked by so many people but very few were lucky enough to know her both around the show ring and at home.
Robyn was an amazing woman who along side, her Husband, Snow, raised 4 daughters, 1 son and bred and competed with her well winning English Setters and American cockers.
Robyn supported me strongly when I made the decision to beak ties with fellow breeders and try to go out on my own, she backed me up, told me i could do it, and told me when i was doing the right/wrong thing - something i really needed to hear at the time.
She was frank with her opinons and for that i am very thankful.
Robyn passed away after a battle with cancer in August 2008, there is a huge hole left in my life since she has been gone, and i can only hope she has some way of passing her opinion down to me in the years to come.
Rest in peace Robyn.
