The wolves in SZL have developed their own language and terms to describe the world around them. They also have unique customs and beliefs, some of which are described below. Though Wolven is now an ancient language, wolves will sometimes use old words and give their cubs old names to honor their ancestors. Below you will find a glossary of Wolven terms.
Aldeph: (all-deff) a river or stream
Alpha: common name for a pack leader; alphas sometimes choose to be referred to by other names, such as king, lord, lady, etc. depending on pack rank and tradition
Ardak: (arr-dack) a storm or blizzard
Benaja: (ben-nah-jah) a forest
Beta: common name for the pack second-in-command; sometimes referred to as captain or general
Briskda: (brisk-dah) fire
Drave: (rhymes with grave) a caribou
Erkal: (err-kull) a fox
Iskadar: (iss-ka-dar) a mountain
Lupa: (loo-pah) a she-wolf
Lupo: (loo-poe) a wolf
Nikjuk: (nick-juck) an arctic hare
Nysf: (nih-sff) snow
Omega: the weakest wolf in the pack; sometimes picked on by packmates; usually just humble, submissive wolves, but occasionally a prisoner or a wolf that has committed some offense against the pack is demoted to Omega.

Rove: (rhymes with grove) a lone wolf or rogue
Shurrakra: (shure-rock-rah) Evil One
Skelet: (skell-let) usually refers to an omega, or the weakest wolf of the pack, but also a name for runts
Slurn: (rhymes with learn) an insult; means "foolish" or "stupid"
Snoor: (rhymes with lure) a fish
Subordinate: subordinates make up the main bulk of the pack; they follow the orders of the Alpha and Beta, and their main duties are to hunt, defend the pack, and help rear the pups
Sundim: (sun-dimm) a valley
Taige: (tye-je) a tree
The Darkness: the 6 months of winter that experience total darkness; believed to be the time when the Dark Lords, the ancestors of the Dark Legion Pack, are most active; evil packs are said to have greater power at this time
The Midnight Sun: the 6 months of summer that experience constant sunlight; believe to be the time when Great Kings, the ancestors of the Snow Star Pack, are most active; good packs are said to have greater power at this time
Ukine: (you-kine) musk ox
Uskbin: (usk-ben) a polar bear
Vighassa: (vih-gossa) a plain or prairie
Vren: (rhymes with wren) demon
Warl: (rhymes with karl) a seal
