Sub Zero's Land

There are five major packs in Sub Zero's Land: Snow Star, Dark Legion, Kohojatak Creek, Dawn of Oblivion, and Lupinar.  Each pack has its own beliefs, customs, and allegiance. Most of the wars in SZL are fought to determine which pack will be dominant over the others.

Besides Lupinar, the Snow Star Pack is the oldest pack in Sub Zero's Land. It consists mainly of arctic wolves, though recently some timber wolves have joined. Snow Star wolves are said to be legendary fighters. Most of them, like Sub Zero, are huge and muscular, and therefore possess immense power. Secret fighting techniques and skills have been passed down from generation to generation, especially in the bloodline of the alphas. So it's the rare wolf that has a chance at matching a Snow Star warrior in battle. But though Snow Star wolves are powerful, they are also kind and caring. They defend the weak and strive to maintain peace.

The Snow Star Pack has a monarchial organization. The alpha male is known as the King, and his mate is Queen. The pups of the alpha pair then succeed their parents in leadership. To this day the Snow Star Pack remains dominant over all others, because it is strong and helps to protect and guide all wolves. Occasionally alphas of submissive packs pay homage to the Snow Star monarch, but otherwise little is asked of the other wolves on the island.

The Dark Legion Pack is the second most powerful pack in Sub Zero's Land. Most of its members, including Wipollo, are timber wolves, ancestors of the refugees who fled from human destruction in Canada and Alaska. Dark Legion wolves are notorious for their cruelty and fierceness in battle. They fight without mercy, and all of them will kill if ordered to. They have no tolerance for weakness, so they are both feared and respected.

The Dark Legion Pack is organized in a system similar to the of Snow Star. The alpha male is dubbed the Dark Lord, and his mate the Dark Lady or Mistress. The pups of the alpha pair succeed their parents in leadership. Though Dark Legion is not the dominant pack in Sub Zero's Land, most other evil packs pay homage to the Dark Lord, and sometimes follow him into war. With such alliances, the Dark Legion Pack continues its battle to overthrow the Snow Star Pack, and establish a new order to the land.

The Kohojatak Creek pack is one of the largest neutral packs in Sub Zero's Land. Nearly all of its members are timber wolves, who followed Marlina into Sub Zero's Land to aid Sub Zero in the war to regain his kingdom. But though the pack formed an alliance with Snow Star that time, it soon went to its own way of life, preferring to stay out of future conflicts. Kohojatak Creek wolves are usually warm and friendly, and they have a vast knowledge of the forest. They're more used to fighting and hunting under cover, and their coats tend to blend in with their surroundings better.

Kohojatak Creek has a more open pack organization. Usually beta wolves succeed the alphas in leadership, but sometimes the alpha will choose another wolf from the pack. On rare occasions, the wolves will fight for their rank.

The Dawn of Oblivion Pack is by far the most vicious and dangerous in Sub Zero's Land. It is led by Vren, the wicked son of Wipollo, who has broken away from the Dark Legion Pack to form his own elite army of killers. Dawn of Oblivion wolves are trained to show no pain and no mercy. They undergo fierce drills and exercises that push their physical and mental abilities to the limit. Only the absolute strongest survive to become full Dawn of Oblivion warriors.

The mission of the "Oblivions" is to become the most powerful pack in Sub Zero's Land, and to take total control of the island. This is similar to the Dark Legion Pack's ambition, except under Vren's reign, no wolf would be free. They would all be turned into murderous beasts, who would follow their leader's word without question. They would continue to fight and kill until they destroyed the land itself. Therefore, it is considered a threat to both the Dark Legion Pack and the Snow Star Pack. The Dark Legion wolves have a more personal conflict with Vren and his followers, however, since Vren has betrayed his family and even launched attacks against them. So it is the Dawn of Oblivion Pack that is the true evil in Sub Zero's Land.

Perhaps the most mysterious and ancient of all the Sub Zero's Land packs is the Lupinar Pack. Led by the blind she-wolf Nurina, the pack resides within a sacred cave full of strange paintings and objects made by humans long ago. Lupinar wolves hold fast to the old beliefs of their ancestors. Most of them speak the ancient Wolven language, and they have several worship rituals which they perform at certain times of the day, month, and year. Some of the wolves, especially high-ranking ones, are adorned with ornaments such as stones and feathers. Several myths surround the pack as well. It is said that the wolves can see into the future, and that they can speak to the spirits of the deceased.

The Lupinar Pack is technically a good pack because it is allied with Snow Star. Though it tends to stay out of battles, it will deliver prophecies and omens to the good wolves. However, Lupinar wolves pay no mind to allegiance when it comes to the sick and the wounded. They will heal and shelter all. Pack rank is decided the traditional way -- the strongest and wisest wolves lead the pack.
