Result: Did Not Finish (Gearbox - 42 laps)

(Red Line 1:43)

This model has a beautifully painted body.  It's only short-coming is that the finish on the chromed wheels is not very smooth and even.  Aroudn the edge, it looks a bit pitted and jaggedy.  If Red Line could make their wheels with a crisper/sharper finish, this model would be a complete winner!

This F40 GTE is among my favourites that the company has produced.  Everything about this model is very well done.  That said, Red Line is still sowing inconsistencies with its releases.  I had to inspect two other #44 models to find one whose paint was as close to flawless as possible.  On the other #44 car, there was some "overspray/overpaint" on the front right fender between the blue panel and yellow panel.  Although there's a seam in between, some of the yellow paint had gone over onto the blue section.  If you are looking for this model for your collection, I recommend that you personally inspect the car in advance of purchasing.  Red Line is very capable to producing excellent cars.  But it might just be a matter of which individual at the comany happens to be building that particular model.  Overall, the car is still a stunning piece.

(AutoBarn 1:43)

This is my first handbuilt model and it is a quite an interesting one. First off, it's made in Italy and is fully constructed by hand. I'm not sure if it is technically a diecast or not though it is very heavy for a 1:43. The car was shipped with the rear wing detached from the upright "supports" and in its own bag. As it turned out, the wing is quite heavy as it is made entirely of metal. If it was glued in place, I have no doubt it could have broken off in transit.

The paint and many photoetched parts are very well crafted. Without doubt, it's finish is superior to my Spark Model and Ebbro models. It's a bit hard to say whether it is same in quality to Red Line; that might just depend on the particular model I'm comparing it to. The one thing that surprised me is that the wheels do not turn. Though for this scale, that's not really a big issue to me.

This is a wonderfully crafted model like the Force One 550 (see above). The one issue I have with the car when I received it was that the top of the windshield was not flush with the roofline.

(Red Line 1:43)

This is my 2nd Red Line model.  I think it's made even better than the 550 (below) because of the engine details that you can see. Moreover, little details like the calipers being stamped with "Brembo" makes it look really sharp!  The brake disks are made to look like they're cross-drilled with finely placed dots on the disk. The metallic green paint on the roofline really caught my attention as the metallic paint flecks that make it sparkle are very fine.

This model is every bit as well done as the other two Red Line Ferraris in my collection.  My thoughts on it are more or less what I have mentioned about the 550.

The one anomaly would be the manufacturer marking on the rear right tire.  They are printed virtually on the should of the tire which is incorrect.  Based on this discovery, I would suggest you inspect your car closely before actually paying for it.

This model was bought from an independent model builder but I have no information about the kit maker. I saw this car race at Mosport in the 2003 ALMS and wanted this as a souvenir marking my first time at an ALMS event.

(IXO 1:43)

IXO has recently been producing some excellent Ferrari models to compete with Red Line based on value.  While the paint and decals are excellent, the wheels are quite poor.  The biggest complaint is that the paint on the wheels is very rough.  The other shortcoming is the thickness of the uprights that support the rear spoiler are disproportionately big.

(Spark Model 1:43)

This model is made very well.  While Spark does have some consistency issues with their models, this one turned out superbly. The paint, decals and antenna are all done in a way that shows the fine craftsmanship of this model.

The photos taken are of the same car, but as it appear 2 months after the Le Mans race.  The car appeared at Mosport in Aug. wearing the #37 and was driven by Jon Field, Clint Field and Liz Halliday.
