For
about two years, I have been learning to take pictures of my diecast
cars. Part of the goal is to capture their beauty. Often, a car has some distinctive lines or features that
uniquely define it. I try to highlight those through the use of
lighting. Other times, I use light just to create a mood with the
car. A good place to get ideas from are "glamour
shots" of exotic cars or car advertisements in magazines. You
will see that many of my photos have been taken against a reflective black
posterboard and that has sort of become my "signature approach".
I guess what that really means is that I'm not really good at other styles of photography. I really find racing livery looks most vibrant against that sort of background.
The following shots are ones that I really like, ones that strike an "emotional chord" when I look at them. Enjoy.

Some Tech Talk
Occassionally, people ask me what sort of camera I use. It's
really nothing terribly fancy. It is a Canon S30 I bought in
2003. It features 3.2 Mpix, full auto and manual modes. I
use posterboard as my background which measures about 65cm x 100cm
(approximate). I have tried a variety of colours as well as matte
and reflective material. To date, the reflective material has
worked better for me. As far as lighiting, I use either (a) two
halogen lights or (b) sunlight. After I take my photos, I use
Adobe Photoshop to edit my photos. Often, I resize the images to
800x530 pixels as well as 640x480 pixels.
