Welcome to Stephen Taylor Veach's Portfolio Website!
Stephen T. Veach has always loved working with computers, technology, and the Internet. He is artistic, creative, and always strives to do the right thing. He has a strong passion to help people and make a difference, and plans to go into the field of Special Education. Stephen is an organized, structured, and detail oriented person. Being courteous, professional, and respectful are
values very important to him. Stephen has always appreciated people who are
tolerant and try to do the right thing.
This past year at Yorkville High School, he worked as a student aide for the Life Skills Program (LSP), and worked primarily with two severely handicapped students, bettering their physical education experience. He also assisted the other LSP students, and helped out around the classroom wherever he could. Additionally, he collaborated with the physical therapist, adaptive PE teacher, regular PE teacher, and the LSP support staff. He built strong relationships with both the staff and the students and was a strong asset to the classroom. Stephen was recognized as Student of the Term by the LSP teacher, Jim Straka, for his outstanding work.
This summer, Stephen was hired to work as a teacher aide for Kendall County's Extended School Year (ESY). This position was made possible by a funded summer youth employment program, and the Kendall County Special Education Cooperative (KCSEC). Stephen worked with a larger group of LSP students from both his school as well as surrounding schools. Stephen was honored to have gotten this position, and gives special thanks to all those who helped him get this job and meet his goals this year. Having the opportunity to work at the ESY has given Stephen invaluable experience, and built off what he learned from his previous work at YHS. Stephen has really enjoyed meeting and working with the great team of Special Ed staff and hopes to do this again next summer.
Stephen is very excited for another successful year at YHS, and is looking forward to working with the LSP class once again. He is enrolled in Cooperative PE, a new class being offered in which students who are interested in working with life skills students can do so in a gym setting for a PE credit. The class is being taught by the excellent PE teacher, Mike Jacobs, and it will likely be similar to what Stephen did last year, except now it's an official class being offered to anyone who filled out an application. More information on Cooperative PE will be posted as the year progresses!
Additionally, Stephen has chosen to utilize his senior block for both terms one and two to be a teacher assistant for Jim Straka. Because it's officially a senior block TA now, Stephen will get a half credit for this. Stephen is very excited to be in the LSP classroom everyday and is very thankful to Jim Straka for always welcoming him in the room and giving him invaluable experience. Stephen plans to graduate high school early this year, and will be finished around January of 2010.
