About the Show

Maya the Bee is the story of an adventurous young honeybee named Maya and her insect friends. Maya's adventures begin after she was so successful at gathering pollen for the Queen Bee near the hive that she exhausted the supply and was sent away in search of more. Accompanying her is her best friend Willi, who is more cowardly than the outgoing Maya, but is a kindhearted and loyal companion. Together, they meet new friends and creatures and learn new things from their experiences. But they must always be careful to avoid the wasps, who are bigger and tougher bees, and not at all friendly.

Maya the Bee is based on the children's book by Waldemar Bonsels. The animated series was originally produced by Nippon Animation Company in Japan and aired from 1975-1976, consisting of 55 episodes. A second Maya series was produced later, and ten episodes were taken from this series and added to the original when Saban dubbed Maya the Bee into English. The 65-episode English version aired on Nickelodeon from 1990-1992 as a part of Nick Jr. To date, the series has enjoyed success in many different countries and languages, especially in Germany where Maya is one of the most recognized children's characters.

Lyrics to the Theme Song:

Who's a friendly little bee
Playing oh so happily
Buzzing here and buzzing there
Busy buzzing everywhere

Maya loves and Maya cares
Maya gives and Maya shares
Maya likes to play around
But she'll never let you down

Maya, Maya the bee
Maya, Maya the bee

See her flying through the air
Buzzing here and buzzing there
Saying, "Catch me if you dare"
Busy buzzing everywhere

Maya, Maya the bee
Maya, Maya the bee

About the DVDs

Maya the Bee is available on two DVDs containing nine full episodes from the cartoon series, the first half of a tenth episode, the last 3.5 minutes of an eleventh episode, plus bonus material available from this web site only. The DVDs have menus with sound for easy selection of episodes, which have been conveniently put into chronological order. You will receive the discs only, which are enclosed in paper sleeves and carefully packaged for shipping; no case or cover art is included.

This series comes on DVD-R, which will play on most DVD players as well as a computer with a DVD-ROM drive and appropriate DVD-viewing software. I use only genuine top quality DVD-R media from Verbatim, and occasionally Sony or TDK, for maximum quality and compatibility.

The quality ranges from eight-and-a-half to nine out of ten (see the screen capture links above for examples). This is the highest quality set available, and in fact, the only set available at this time. Maya the Bee is perhaps the rarest cartoon I've ever searched for, and finding even a few episodes has been no easy task. I have even decided to include the two partial episodes I've found as any footage at all is rare, and I must assume that fans will even appreciate viewing fractions of episodes if they're available. After years of hunting, I've been able to compile this rare collection of episodes. I spent months capturing, digitally restoring, and converting the series to DVD format for the first time ever. This ensures quality every time you watch, unlike VHS tapes, which deteriorate over time.

Return Policy

All discs are checked to be in perfect working condition before they are shipped, but in the unlikely event that any disc is damaged during shipping or not functioning properly, you may return the faulty disc(s) and I will replace them for free. Due to the nature of these discs (in that they can be copied relatively easily) and the fact that the price you pay is for time and materials, I do not issue refunds, only replacements. This is why it is important to read all the information I have provided, and make sure that you understand what a DVD-R is and whether your DVD player will be able to play DVD-R before you order.

If you do have any problems with the discs or need a replacement, I'm always available to help out and answer any questions you may have.
