   BaitCasting The king Cat

Ah spring time fishing bring out the big cats, moving from deep watering holes to warmer shallow feeder wind blown flats and feeder creeks and steams. Now for this you need a little diffident tackle i use and desent baitcasting medium or heavy 6 to 8 foot rood. Again I purched my baitcaster from Bass Pro Shop for $55.00 and its perfect.

    NOw u gutta really think big when rigyour your trophy baitcaster. You can modify my guild line to the water your fishing in. Use 50 to 80 lb test line for this type of trophy cat fishing, because you will be fishing in think covers and snags. Use a ## 0/7 to 0/13 circle hooks 1 to 3 oz slip sinker oner a shor 6 inch swivel ( the short swivel i beleave it  keeps your bait more active cause of less distance for the fish to pull and tug on.) Now u can use what ever live bait is plentiful in your body of water. I use either 7 to 12 inch creek chubs but 4 to 8 in bullhead catfish ( which is a natural food of the flathead)

   Now finding that trophy spot, Please do not  get discouraged if you are fishing a large body of water. When hunting trophy flats you will want to to look for these types of land marks. You will want to hunt in run offs, side creeks, feeder streams, look for lager down timber and dabri. which has farly deep holes of the channel or feeder stream your in avg. dept to look for is around 5 to 10 feet in a channel or feeder stream slitly shallower for creeks and smaller run offs.

   When casting set up right in front of the natural timber damn od brush pile remember you have big 50 to 80 lbs test to when that trophy cat snatches up your bait fish. It will go back to it hole and will get in some heavy snag and wrap around limbs. So it is very important that your tackle will let you bare down and get that big guy in. So be sure to have a hefty net handy to help you life that huge cat in the boat. and always fish with a buddy..

   Now Remember if you are on a lake or resaviore just look for areas along the back where there are moderately deep hole with lots of cover be it down timber. snag brush or rocks. cause thats where that trophy is resting.

 Now as late after noon sets in you can mover to the larger water areas, usually ajasent to the resting area of the kings of the night where you was just fishing. Look for deep holes close to the feeder streams or brush area. Now you want to fish just 2 or 3 feet out past the shallow flat in 20 or pulse depths. this is general where the current is moving faster and the bait fish naturally gather. Fish the drop ledge moving ever 15 to 20 mins if no fish are biting. and you work the whole weather hole then move to a different once.. If the fish are active, you will usually get active fairly quick.
