Alright you want to learn a little about catching that trophy blue which commonly grow in excess of 60 to over 100 lbs. If you have good stripper and good tilde fast moving curent waters where you live then you can decently catch that trophy blue.
Now tackle I would use the same tackle i use for baitcasthing flathead ( you can read my flat head section to find out what i use.) U can slack up on the line to about 30 to 50 lb test and use 2 to 5 oz slip sinkers and the leader length doest not really matter cause your will be using large cut bait..
Looking for that prime king blue spot is easy just look for fast moving current and changing tilde waters. Now u want to set up in the first 20 or so yards of deep fast moving current hole which should be shadowed by a small wind blown flats. bends, split offs and fresh water feeder streams are good to setup by. Espicaly if there is some type of debris close buy.
But I suggest if you can fish a fairly nice size channel or feeder steam (around 15-20 foot at is widest is good, bug bigger is better,) Because the current usually moves about 30 mins faster. Use larger cut bait brim, blue gael, are good. The Bigger the bait the bigger the blue cat you will land. i use cut bait weighing around 1 1/2 to 3 lbs. remember blue cats are like channels they are scavengers so cut the dead bait so it will bleed a little.
If you do not have a boat or access to use one and you still wanna try you luck for them big trophy blue cats. Its perfect if you live close to a damn.. you will just want to fish just below the damn on the edge of the wash out hole. Use A rig like i talked about in my shore flathead section. That will give you the ability to cast out in that fast movie damn current. I fish the Pike Island Damn in Belmonte County In Ohio. One the ohio river. it is a exhalent spot for big cats of all kinda and many other big game river fish. And the ohio side is fisher friendly with a nice fishing pier and a few hundred yards of nice below damn beach fishing. and the even have a parkinglot.
Please if you need any help understanding where to fish check out my setup scenario page it will defently give you a better idea. and always if you wanna share some good tips post it in the Catfish Hunters Forum. I thank you for taking the time and interest to learn a little bit about the every growing fishing craze the King Cat... Have Fun and Good Luck..
