St.Silas 4  v 7 EK Baptist

St. Silas suffered their heaviest defeat for 2 seasons in the defeat against EK Baptist.  We lost 7 v 4 in what was a very good game.  With 5 changes from the championship winning side we brought in players who had not played for most of the season.  The right back for St. Silas played an absolute blinder and held the defence together for much of the game (Oh!  That was me).

The defence was ripped apart in the first half going 4 nil down before half time with Frank pulling one back just before the break.  St. Silas' manager on his first time as manager gave an inspirational team talk and also a tactical change which helped the team to bring it back to 4 all.  Unfortunately it took the steam out of the team and then with some poor defending mainly by yours truly it led to us losing 7 v 4.

The problem was no one took this game very seriously we had done all the hard work during the season the only thing we are playing for is for either Frank or John to end up as top scorers in the league.  Most people's heads were looking forward to next weekend and the cup final.  With all 5 injuries expected to have cleared up for next Saturday St. Silas will be back to full strength and I can hang my boots up until the pre season and then until maybe the last game of next season.

Well done to EK Baptist who played very well throughout the game and never gave up.  They made it into a good game and should be quite strong for next season in Div 3.  My feeling is that Div 3 will be a very strong league with some very good teams in it and also very competetive.  The key to winning it is to not blow up toards the end of the season and to keep going until the very last game unless you are in the clear as we are.

Well dne to all division 3 teams and I hope for those that remain in div 3 you have an excellent season and do very well.

Auchenfoyle 2 v 1 St.Silas

Auchenfoyle 2 v 1 St. Silas.  St. Silas have lost a game.  With the squad depleted through injuries and work we lost to our bogey team.  In 6 meetings we have drawn 1, won 1 and lost 4.

In what should have been a game to enjoy remembering that we had won the title and got into the cup final we did not have to win it but, it would have been nice to.  Paul scored the opening goal to make it 1 nil in the first half and then before half time it was 1 all.  We lost 2 players at half time due to injury and the team dynamic slipped.  The team worked hard but when Derek our goalkeeper got sent off for 'denying a goalscoring opportunity' we were in trouble.  Gordon stepped in between the posts and did well but by then the game was beyond us.

Things to take from the game were the players that did come in did a good job for us and were not at fault for the goals.  We had a decent squad of players that would get into most teams in the league and we need to enjoy the games more especially when we can and this is that time.  We have won the league so there is no pressure on us to perform and we are in the cup final.

3 points lost but well done to Auchenfoyle who also had a depleted team out but they took their chances and won.  MOM was Frank and there was some delightful play from Alan who again lit up a rather boring and unexciting game.  Derek our goalkeeper did not have that much to do and when he did have his slip up it shouldn't have happened.  He will now have to sweat on whether he can play in the cup final as I am not sure when his ban will come through.

The next game we have is against EK Baptist in East Kilbride so breakfast will be at my house for 8.30 at the latest.  I hope we enjoy the game and play well but again the players keep safe for the cup final on the 19th.

There is a team meeting on Friday at 7.30 at the church which everyone is expected to appear at with no excuses.  The following Friday evening will be a meal and a chill out time on the eve of the cup final.k their chances and won.

St. Silas 4 v 3 Kilsyth COG

We are through to our second consecutive cup final this time after extra time.  What a fantastic 120 minutes of football.

1 nil down at half time, pulled back to 1 all early in the second half by Ally then Kilsyth with 10 minutes to go made it 2 v 1.  3 minutes later John scored to make it 2 all.  First half of extra time Kilsyth scored to make it 3 v 2 this was quickly followed by us equalising again this time by Alan  and then with 7 minutes to go Ally made a lung bursting run to finish the game off 4 v 3.  I cannot say enough with regard to our opponents Kilsyth who were immense and really up for the game to day all the players who played in this game gave it 100% and were a credit to the churches league what a game!

Derek had an excellent game in goal and was not at fault for any of Kilsyth's goals he showed great maturity and discipline to have a fantastic game.  Davey was great full of running and committment along with Murdo, Richard and our captain Iain who had another fantastic game.  The midfield played really well Alan scored 1 and hit the bar with another, Ally scored 2 but run the legs of off himself, Tam passed the ball and tackled for everything and Graham who ended up with a head knock was superb for the part of the game he played in.  Upfront John and Frank did all they could to score but unfortunately it wasn't Frank's day today but he still has plenty left in him.  Tam H came on as a sub for extra time and had a cracking 30 minutes putting in some important tackles and Gordon set up the equaliser to take it to extra time.  Anthony, Willy and Olly never got on today but these guy's will all start to play more regularly over the next few weeks.  They have played an important part to this season and although they haven't played as much as I am sure they would have liked they have turned up week in week out.  Fantastic!

What was evident today about the team was their character and committment to one another and St Silas.  They all dug deep to get us to the cup final and in the end they deserved it.  Everyone of them was fantastic - what a day!  It was good to have some fans there aswell and especially to see our minister David being able to make it with his hectic sch

Kilsyth COG thank you for making it an entertaining and competetive game.  Now to the final and hopefully we can do the double and look forward to division 2 next season.

St. Silas 4 v 1Houston

St. Silas won 4 v 1 today with an exceptional performance not only football wise but also attitude wise.  It was fantastic to watch and really enjoyable.

The game started slowly with pressure from Houston but the deadlock was broken by some swift passing down the right and a perfect cross from Frank for Ali to make it 1 nil St. Silas.  Houston then made it 1 all.  A few changes in the second half saw St. Silas come out of the blocks the quicker of the 2 teams  and with John scoring number 2 followed shortly by Frank and then to top it off Frank became supplier yet again for Ali to loop a header over the goakeeper to make the final score 4 v 1.

Derek our goalkeeper had a couple of saves to pull off and unfortunately for him did not manage to keep a clean sheet but his attitude and discipline were absolutely excellent today.  Well done Derek.

John had a great game today and put us back on the winning path with the goal to put us 2 v 1 up.  Frank had an excellent team performance and Ali scored 2 cracking goals and had a great game as well.  Every member of our team showed exceptional maturity and discipline today and really played as a team.

Houston played their part in a fantastic game and I hope they do well next season.  For us it is up to the second division as champions.  We have 64 points and no one can catch us and so well done to everyone involved this season especially Iain who came back from a very serious knee injury and took us over that finishing line with 3 more league games to go and at least a cup semi final to play in next week.

.Silas 4 V 1 Sherwood

Sherwood 1 v 4 St. Silas.  Another victory for St. Silas which puts us on 61 points and means that only one team can catch us and beat us to being Division 3 champions this season.

The game started well with St. Silas being on top and plenty for the Sherwood defence to do.  Alan broke the deadlock with a cracking finish to make it 1 nil.  Shortly after John made it 2 nil and after another 10 offside decisions went against us Ali scored the third.

Then with 5 minutes to go before half time our Derek our goalkeeper had a rush of blood to the head missed the ball and their centre forward sneaked in a goal to make it 3 v 1.  The second half was patchy but our half time substitute Paul put the ball in the back of the net to make it 4 v 1.  The game overall was very good and we played well.  Iain our captain played probably the best game he has had for a while and at no point did we look like losing unlike the last time we played Sherwood who are the only team to have beaten us this season.

Again Derek didn't have much to do and what he did have to he did well although he does have to becareful at times as he walks a tight line.  MOM was Tam with only his second full game since returning and Graham at the centre of midfield played excellent and was unlucky not to get the MOM award for this game.

Next week we have a tough clash with Houston who are one of the teams that can upset our season lets pray that it is a good competetive game and the boy's all play well and to their full potential.

St.Silas 3 V 0 Kilsyth COG

St. Silas took another step towards winning the league with a fine 3 v 0 victory over Kilsyth COG.  Goals from Frank 2 and John 1 sealed the victory.  Man of the Match birthday boy Graham had a fantastic game and deserved to get awarded it.

The game started off at a fast pace with Kilsyth on the attack only for St Silas to counter attack and score.  After this the game was never in doubt.  After 20 minutes St. Silas went 2 nil up with another fine goal set up by Tam.  The third came towards the end and with the ball taking a deflection off of a defender Frank ended up with his second of the game and 39th of the season.  The first goal scored by John was also an excellent piece of play set up by Alan.  Third goal was set up by the hardworking Ally who had an excellent game  and was all over the pitch.

Derek had one save to make in the second half caused by a deflected shot off of Iain but apart from that kept his first clean sheet of the season and it was a well deserved clean sheet.  The defense again was strong and kept Kilsyth out of the game.

Overall it was an excellent performance with a few players missing.  Well done to the guy's.

St.Silas7v2Trinity Possil

Another great win for St. Silas 7 v 2 in the Atholl Cup Quarter Final.  We have progressed through to the semi final for the third season in a row.  Houston who beat us last season in the final have bowed out in the first round losing 3 v 1 to Hope Hall.

The game for ourselves was very good.  We started slowly not really creating many clearcut chances but after 10 minutes were awarded a penalty which Frank took twice to make it 1 v 0 shortly after this Trinity Possil scored with a cracking goal which put us under some pressure then Frank broke down the right and turned provider for Ali who headed his 8th of the season.  2 v 1 at half time.

Shortly after half time it was 3 v 1 and again Trinity pegged it back to 3 v 2.  After yet another wake up call for us we upped a gear and went on to score another 4 with the final score being 7 v 2.  It was good to welcome some new players into the team that all played their part in the team victory and it was also good to welcome big Tam back full of life and energy.  Once again Derek our goalkeeper had another good game but still didn't manage to keep a clean sheet through no fault of his own.  I don't even remember him having to pull off any saves apart from a couple of punches out at corners.  He did well again.  Graham was once again man of the match with a real tough performance at the centre of midfield his example to the others around him is second to none and he is a great witness to be a Christian and playing a competetive team sport.  Praise God we have him.

Once again though the team were a credit to the church and the churches league and they have come such a long way in a short time, they still have room to grow and improve  but they are on the road.  Our goalscorers this week were Frank 2, Ali 2 and John 3.  Incidentally John also starts work tonight which is great news for him and for us.

Well done once again with every member contributing to what appears as an easy victory but wasn't and all credit to Trinity Possil who have had some adversity recently within the team but have got over it and will be a force next season in division 3.

For St. Silas we have at least 7 games to play now with 6 in the league and also a cup semi final to play in as yet we don't know who our opponents will be but I am sure it will be a tough competetive game as they have all been this season.
