Infinite Space Federation

About the Infinite Space Federation (ISF)

Background and Information

This site was originally set up to provide a centralised place where people could meet and discuss "Strange Adventures in Infinite Space" by Digital Eel and Cheapass games.

In addition to being a useful companion during those long cold (SAIS induced) nights in front of your computer, hopefully this site will also become the place to distribute, discuss and create new MODS for the game! Hurrah!

So get your MOD thinking caps on ...and don't forget to carefully scour each lovingly crafted page of this site - just as you would piloting your ship through the vast expanse space that is commonly known as "Sector Prime".

- on the original SAIS Federation.

"Strange Adventures in Infinite Space Federation" was created on September 29th, 2003 by , and hosted at MSN Groups with the adminstrative assistance of and . Unfortunately the convoluted registration process required by MSN meant theat many people were deterred (or even entirely prevented) from using the site.

The New SAIS Federation was created by in response to this problem, so that the community would have a single site which was accessible to all. Now redesigned and renamed to Infinite Space Federation and, with the support of Lord Rylex, incorporating much of the content from the original SAIS Federation site, the ISF is ready to fulfil that goal.

The purpose of the ISF is exactly that of the original SAIS Federation: It is a place to discuss SAIS and Weird Worlds, get help in creating mods, and generally contribute and share experiences with others in the amazing, twisted world of Infinite Space that Digital Eel provided us.

Administration of the site is presently being undertaken by , , and .

A comment on Web Browsers

The Infinite Space Federation site has been designed around current web standards as recommended by the World Wide Web Consortium, and thus looks its best in a web browser that adequately supports these web standards. As of this writing, Internet Explorer (IE) is not one of those browsers. This in no way affects the ability of IE to access the content of the site, however I do highly recommend trying out one of the excellent free and more standards-compliant web browsers (such as Opera or Firefox) in order to enjoy the ISF (and indeed the entire World Wide Web) at its best.

Infinite Space Federation Rules & Code of Conduct

As a member of our forum community, you must participate responsibly. If you have any questions regarding these Rules, please contact any of our forum moderators via the board's personal message system or by email.

Please note that the administrators have final say in any matter.

Prohibited Activities & Related Policies

No Spamming

  • Spam includes, but is not limited to, the following:
    • Posting nonsensical messages
    • "Flooding" the forum with similar meaning messages
    • Post count farming (posting for no reason other than increasing your post count)
    • Messages without content
    • Free ____ links (i.e. free iPods, free PSP, etc.)

No Advertising

  • Do not post topics or messages that solicit or promote any commercial concern or transmit advertising, promotional materials, chain letters, pyramid schemes, or make any commercial use of our service. Doing so will result in the immediate termination of your account.
  • Do not use these forums purely for advertising your own site (or forums). Linking to your site in your signature is alright, as long as there is no accompanying advertising (i.e "why my product is great" / slogans, etc.).
  • If you are affiliated with a site relevant to the Infinite Space Federation community or would simply like to link to it as part of a discussion, feel free. However we will not tolerate repeated new threads to announce each new update to such a site.

No Profanity

  • You may not use profanity in these forums. Some slang may be considered profane when used in certain contexts.

No Impersonation

  • Attempting to impersonate any other forum members, or forum moderators/administrators, is prohibited. Impersonation includes using forged instant messenger names or selecting usernames which are similar to an existing user (e.g. "Eternal Spearman") in an effort to deceive or mislead.
  • Out of courtesy to other forum users and moderators we expect you to use only one username on our forums

No Harassment

  • We have no tolerance for personal attacks as determined by forum moderators, whether public or private, towards any user or administrator of the forum.
  • Do not bait users or moderators. Baiting is posting with a clear purpose to provoke incendiary posts and behavior that might result in other users violating these Rules.

No Violations of Privacy

  • Do not disclose any personal information about another user, unless that user has first permitted it by express consent. Examples of personal information include real name, email addresses, IP addresses, physical mail addresses and phone numbers.
  • Do not post any private/email messages or instant messenger messages ("chatlogs") in an attempt to harass another user, regardless of consent.

No Offensive Images / Shock Sites

  • Do not post or link to shock sites, or any such excessively obscene material. If you are unsure whether what you want to post may be such, please contact a moderator first before posting.
  • Do not post or link to sexually explicit or offensive materials. Again, if you are unsure whether what you want to post may be such, please contact a moderator first before posting.

No Warez / Illegal Software

  • You may not link to, post about, or otherwise suggest ways of obtaining illegal software ('Warez'). Posting such information may result in your posting privileges being revoked.
  • Likewise, we will not tolerate postings that encourage people to violate copy protection by referring them to sites that have copy protection codes publicized (including No-CD Cracks) and/or illegal software. Any such post will be removed from our forums and your membership and posting privileges will be revoked.

Signatures

  • Signatures (whether made using the forum software or manually by the user), just like posts, must not violate any part of these Rules.

Posting Images in Threads

  • Be courteous to other users when embedding images in forum posts.
  • Large images (in terms of file size) can be frustrating to users accessing the site via a slow modem. Such images should be changed to links.
  • Large images (in terms of dimension) can disrupt the appearance of the forums. We recommend that screenshots, photographs, and other images that you want to embed in your posts should be no larger than 640 x 480 pixels. Images larger than this should be resized, or changed to a link.

Avoid Off-Topic Postings

  • Please utilise the appropriate forum for the subject at hand. "General Discussion" is for any SAIS / Weird Worlds discussion not better served by one of the other forums. Posts about the ISF site and forums themselves should be made in "Site and Forums Feedback". Anything unrelated to SAIS / WW / ISF should be made in the "Off-Topic" forum.

Moderation & Bans

  • You may not evade a ban. Doing so will drastically lengthen your ban. If you have a problem with the banning or feel it was inappropriate, please contact a moderator with the reasons you feel it was so. We of course reserve the right to refuse such a request.
  • Any problems concerning warnings, bans, message deletion, thread deletion and thread closure should be discussed over private email (or via the board's personal message system) between the person(s) concerned and the moderators.
  • You may not re-edit a message that has been edited by a moderator, without express permission, except where such alterations have no bearing or effect on the moderator's changes.
  • Repeated offenses are usually needed before permanent banning in most cases, but particularly disruptive behaviour may warrant more drastic action.

Miscellaneous

  • Do not post multiple negative posts with identical meanings. If you feel the need to say something, say it once and then move on. Do not disrupt discussions just to get your point/view out. Your view is already out, anyway, do you really need to annoy everyone by repeating it?
  • Do not abuse the forum's 'BB Code' facilities.
  • Constructive feedback is actively encouraged (a forum is provided for the purpose). Unconstructive negativity/abuse and/or attempts to damage the forum community (e.g. "These forums suck. Go here!") will be viewed less kindly.
  • Do not register multiple accounts in an attempt to violate these Rules.

Encouraged Activities

  • There are too many of these to list. Essentially, almost anything that's not in the Prohibited Activities.
  • You can also get a good idea from how other members act -- if you "lurk" (read without posting) for a bit you can get a pretty good idea of what's useful/good/interesting posting and what's not.
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: These Rules are not intended to cover every eventuality. We may act in any way we feel necessary if, in our judgment, you are acting counter-productively to the forum community.
