A Prayer for Humility

Mark Patterson

Mighty God and gentle Lamb, Lord of all creation,

how we long to know you, how we strive to serve you,

help us now to love you even more.

            Give us humble hearts to praise you

            and list'ning ears to hear your voice,

            willing hands to serve you, thankful spirits to rejoice.

            Lord of all, we adore you, and we bring this prayer before you:

            Create in us humble hearts.

When our thoughts turn proud, remind us of the grace you freely give.

When we lose our way, Lord, find us, draw us close to you again.

            Give us humble hearts to praise you

            and list'ning ears to hear your voice,

            willing hands to serve you, thankful spirits to rejoice.

            Lord of all, we adore you, and we bring this prayer before you:

            Create in us humble hearts.  Amen.

Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus

Words: Charles Wesley, 1707-1788

Music: Taylor Davis

Come, thou long expected Jesus, born to set thy people free:

from our fears and sins release us, let us find our rest in thee.

Israel's strength and consolation, hope of all the earth though art;

dear desire of ev'ry nation, joy of ev'ry longing heart,

dear desire of ev'ry nation, joy of ev'ry longing heart.

Born thy people to deliver, born a child and yet a King,

born to reign in us forever, now thy gracious kingdom bring.

By thine Own eternal spirit rule in all our hearts alone, alone;

by thine all sufficient merit, to glorious throne.

Come, thou long expected Jesus, born to set thy people free;

from our fears and sins release us, let us find our rest in thee.

Israel's strength and consolation, hope of all the earth thou art;

dear desire of ev'ry nation, joy of ev'ry longing heart,

dear desire of ev'ry nation, joy of ev'ry longing heart.

Holy Spirit

When I was a self-made man, thought I knew it all

Then when trouble came along, it had me up against a wall...

            (Chorus)

            Then I said to God, Lord I'm sorry

            Then I said to Jesus, take my sins away,

            Then I said Holy Spirit, won't you speak to me,

            Holy Spirit, won't you speak through me

            Spirit of God touch my heart

When I was complaining, didn't understand the way

Then I read the Bible, it told me about a better day... (Chorus)

Then a preacher told me, told me God is on His throne

And about the judgement day we could never stand alone... (Chorus)

In the Bleak Midwinter

Words: Christina Rossetti

Music: Gustav Holst (arr. Bradley Ellingboe)

In the bleak mid-winter, Frosty wind made moan,

Earth stood hard as iron, Water like a stone;

Snow had fallen, snow on snow, Snow on snow,

In the bleak mid-winter, Long ago.

Heaven cannot hold him, Nor earth sustain;

Heav'n and earth shall flee away When he comes to reign;

In the bleak mid-winter A stable place sufficed

The Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.

What can I give him Poor as I am?

If I were a shepherd I would bring a lamb;

If I were a wise man I would do my part;

Yet what I can I give him Give my heart.

Give my heart.  Give my heart.

ISAIAH 40

Chorus:

Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength,

They shall mount up like eagles with wings of great length,

They shall run and not be weary,

They shall walk and not be faint,

He gives--strength to the weary and power to His saints.

Oh, there was a man named Moses,

He came from Israel's race,

When the Lord told him to do a job,

He did it in great faith,

He traveled forty years in the wilderness with his kin,

He brought them to the promised land

With the Lord guiding him.

(shuwap-shuwap, boom-shuwap-shuwap

Boom-shuwap-shuwap, boom - huuh!)     (Chorus)

Oh, there was a Son named Jesus,

The Son of God and man,

He fasted forty days and nights,

And wandered through the land,

He was tempted by the devil of all the riches that there are

His only reply was scripture

And the devil spake no more.

(shuwap-shuwap, boom-shuwap-shuwap

Boom-shuwap-shuwap, boom - huuh!)     (Chorus)

La Montaña

(to listen, click here, then click "play > " button)

Translated, it means "If you have faith like a grain of mustard, this says the Lord: If you say to the mountain, "Move", the mountain will move"

Now Thank We All Our God

Words: Marin Rinkhart, 1586-1649 (trans. Catherine Winkworth, 1829-1878, alt.)

Music: Nun Danket Alle Gott, Johann Cruger, 1598-1662, (arr. Michael Rosewall)

Now thank we all our God, with hearts and hands and voices,

who wondrous things has done, in whom this world rejoices;

who from our mothers' arms has blessed us on our way

with countless gifts of love, and still is ours today.

Oh, may this bounteous God through all our lives be near us,

ever joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us;

and keep us all in grace, and guide us when perplexed,

and free us from all harm in this world and the next.

All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given,

the Son, and Spirit blest, who reign in highest heaven,

the one eternal God, whom earth and heavn' adore;

for thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore!

Thee We Adore (Adoro Te Devote)

Words: Thomas Aquinas, 1227-1274 (trans. James R. Woodford, 1820-1885)

Music: Plainchant Tune (arr. Ralph M. Johnson)

Thee we adore, O hidden Savior, thee,

Who in thy sacrament art pleased to be;

Both flesh and Spirit in thy presence fail,

Yet here thy presence we devoutly hail.

Fountain of goodness, Jesus, Lord and God:

Cleanse us, unclean, with they most cleansing blood;

Increase our faith and love, that we may know

The hope and peace which from they presence flow.

O Christ, whom now beneath a veil we see:

May what we thirst for soon our portion be,

To gaze on thee unveiled, and see they face,

The vision of thy glory and thy grace.  Amen.

Walk in the Light

Words: George D. Elderkin, refrain; Charles Wesley, 1707-1788, stanzas

Music: Jesus, the Light of the world, Traditional (arr. Andre Thomas)

We'll walk in the light, beautiful light,

come where the dew-drops of mercy shine bright.

Shine all around us by day and by night,

Jesus, the Light of the world.

We'll walk in the light, beautiful light,

come where the dew-drops of mercy shine bright.

Shine all around us by day and by night,

Jesus, the Light of the world.

Hark! the herald angels sing, (Jesus, the Light of the world.)

"Glory to the new-born King." (Jesus, the Light of the world.)

Walk in the light, beautiful light,

come where the dew-drops of mercy shine bright.

Shine all around us by day and by night,

Jesus, the Light of the world.

Hail the heav'n born Prince of Peace! (Jesus, the Light of the world.)

Christ, the everlasting Lord! (Jesus, the Light of the world.)

Walk in the light, beautiful light,

come where the dew-drops of mercy shine bright.

Shine all around us by day and by night,

Jesus, the Light of the world.

Walk in the light, beautiful light,

come where the dew-drops of mercy shine bright.

Shine all around us by day and by night,

Jesus, the Light of the world.

Jesus, the Light of the world.

Jesus, the Light of the world.
