St. Patrick's Youth Group

Proclaiming Christ's Love To The World

Youth Outreach Ministry

We have been exploring outreach programs for the local and worldwide communities, and have begun to raise funds and establish goals.  The following are our projects and goals:

Sunrise at Bluemont - Arlington, VA:  Since 2002, we have dedicated one Sunday of each month to lead a service at Sunrise Bluemont Retirement Center in Arlington.  The residents are delighted to have us read scripture and offer songs of praise at these services.  We also assist our youth leader in distribution of communion at these services.

Toys for children in Iraq:  During August 2005 we collected toys for children in Iraq.   The toys were sent to Lt. Michael Kirtland, a member of our congregation, for distribution to children in this war-torn area of the world.

School supplies for Sudan:  Through a missionary, Rev. Lauren Stanley, we were able to send school supplies and origami peace cranes to the students in Sudan.  Our hope is for peace and reconciliation for Sudan.  In February of 2006, St. Matthew Cathedral of the diocese of Renk, Sudan, was consecrated.  Click here for more on Stories from Sudan. Click here to view photos of the consecration of St. Matthew Cathedral.

Katrina disaster relief:  St. Patrick's in Long Beach, Mississippi, was demolished by hurricane Katrina in 2005.  St. Patrick’s in Falls Church, Virginia created a handmade banner for their congregation to show our support of their continued ministry in the Long Beach community, as well as our love for their parish.  The banner was presented by two of our church members during a mission trip to Mississippi in June 2006.

GoalsOur outreach goals include working with local food pantries and homeless shelters; planning mission trips to Mississippi, Honduras and Vietnam; and organizing donations to the diocese of Renk, Sudan to continue our support of their schools and missionaries.

"Beach Towel" Mission Trip

St. Peter's-by-the-Sea

Swansboro, North Carolina

Sat. July 12 to Sat. July 19

Towel Ministry is a youth oriented ministry of the Diocese of Western North Carolina that specializes in housing repair and refurbishment for the elderly and handicapped who need but cannot afford such repairs.  Teams of youth and qualified adults spread the Good News of the Gospel by participating in work projects, such as building handicap access ramps, painting, roofing, weather-proofing, and other housing repairs.  Towel Ministry is a wonderful mix of fellowship and reaching out into the rural communities of North Carolina.

St. Mary's, Arlington has invited St. Patrick's to join them on a week-long trip to St. Peter's-by-the Sea in Swansboro, NC.  This will be their 12th year in working with Towel Ministry.   We will spend the week building relationships with families, fellow young Episcopalians, and with one another.
