If a person lives in the central part of Barangay San Pedro, Morong, Rizal, or if a person were born in it and, if a person is a son or daughter of one who comes from that area, then that person is considered a member of the Stony Club unless that person signifies otherwise.
The Club has, for its territory, that central part of San Pedro. This is recognized by the Sangguniang Bayan and all other clubs in the municipality of Morong.
Founded on May 16, 1932, the Club's initial purpose is firstly, to assist each other in times of need and, secondly, to promote sports development.
The Club proudly points to U-ugong Falls, a picturesque picnic spot, as its birthplace and has etched its name on the concrete block high on a rock to mark its origin.
Origin of the Club Name
In the early thirties, U-ugong Falls was already a tourist attraction. The easiest way to reach it was by banca, which usually departs from the old stone steps at the back of the Commandancia.
One Saturday morning, a group of American tourists hired three local young men to take them by boat to and from U-ugong Falls. The young men were very much excited, aside from expecting a generous fee, they could practice their knowledge of the English language, and, best of all, they could watch the American ladies in their bathing suits.
In the picnic spot, the toursts said off their clothes and shoes to take their baths but, to their disappointment, they cound the river bed very coarse and the ladies began complaining, "It's STONY down here." They kept hopping from one place to another in search of a smoother surface to stand on.
On the way back, Mariano Javier, the leader of the bankeros would shout, "Stony!" and the other two, Igmedio de Rosas and Sofronio Mata would smile with thoughts in their minds.
Soon it became a by-word in the locality; mere mention of the word STONY would remind everyone of the American ladies hopping around in their bathing suits.
The following summer, people were amused to see a basketball team with the word STONY printed on their playing shirts. The STONY Club had just been organized on May 16, 1932, and participated in a sports festival of the town.
Regeneration
After the 2nd World War, because of the increasing number of members but limited activities, several youth organizations cropped up within the STONY territory. The Beachsiders, the Jokers, DP 7, Calypso, and SSB, to mention a few. But inspite of gaining identity, these clubs did not detach themselved from the STONY Club. To revitalize the club, Bernardo San Juan, President at that time, organized the Stony Youth Club and Nemesio Natividad became its first president.
The Stony Club always exerts its full efforts in any activity whether in sports, in civic, or in bayanihan work. Thy want to be among the prime movers that would set the community into motion towards improvement. To symbolize this trait, they adopted the gear with eight cogs as its emblem.
