Stone Saxons is the touring name for the junior section of Stone Cricket Club Staffordshire.
In February 2008 we will be embarking on our first ever tour, to Capetown in South Africa.
The tour promises to be an exciting 2 week adventure, with 5 matches against local opposition as well as an opportunity to explore the famous sights, such as Table Mountain, Robben Island, Cape Point and others.
As part of the tour we intend to support 'Miqlat Bowy House' a small orphanage in the Paarl district of South Africa caring for babies and children infected or affected by HIV/Aids.
We have chosen this charity having been inspired by Oundle Cricket Club in Northamptonshire, who went on a similar tour earlier this year and also supported this cause. (Thanks to John Foster for the contacts.)

Stone Saxons are a mixed ability junior cricket team with ages ranging from 12 to 18.
The majority of the team are made up from this seasons under 15 team from Stone Cricket Club with the addition of 2 from this years under 17's, two new club members, together with Jenny, the captain of our first girls team at the club 'Stone Pink Ladies'.
Its been a dreadful summer for cricket!
The weather has been more suitable for rugby through July and most of August.
On one of the few nights that we got to the nets between the showers Jim and Dave (our tour managers) were fending off some of Tom's express deliveries when the conversation came around (somehow) to making up for the summer by playing in the winter and making use of Jim's contacts in South Africa. What was initially a joke, became a maybe and has now become a reality through a lot of hard work and determination.
The fundraising for the tour has now commenced in earnest with all the team working hard to achieve our aims and support our charity.
Our South African adventure has 3 aims :-
1. For all of us, both players and parents, to understand what life is like for those who are far less fortunate than ourselves. It is for this purpose that we have chosen to follow in the footsteps of Oundle Cricket Club and support Miqlat Bowy House during the tour. This is a charitable organisation that runs an orphanage in Paarl looking after babies and children infected, or affected, by HIV/Aids.
2. To forge strong sporting links between Stone and this area of South Africa that we hope will lead to further opportunities for sporting exchanges into the future both as visitors and hosts.
3. To develop our playing squad through cricket, both as players, and as individuals in a new environment and within a new and exciting culture. We hope that the experiences during this tour will have a lasting effect and in doing so we hope that we will build friendships that will span the distance between our countries and be sustained for many years to come.
