Stonebow Field Archers

Doing It In The Woods

Field archery is the sport of shooting around a course, usually at animal targets. The targets can either be paper pictures, or lifelike foam 3D targets. It is shot over rough ground, usually woodland, at unmarked distances.

Each person can shoot one arrow from each of three pegs positioned at varying distances from the target. Scores are awarded on the position of the striking arrow within pre-marked scoring zones. Scoring can vary on the day due to the type of course laid, but "Big Game Round" is currently the most common round shot. It is scored as follows.

First arrow within the outer scoring zone scores
