Dreamstime has been online since the year 2000 but it was
redesigned and relaunched in March 2004 in the new form. The administrative and billing office and corporate relations
office are in US and the business relations and development office is situated
in Romania. The site operates under the US law. By 01.04.2006 it had approximately 330 000 images online and
each week 10 000 to 15 000 images are added to the database. The average review time is between 3 and 4 days and it usually
doesn't take more then one week to have an image online. The minimum a photographer gets for an image is 50% of it's
price, 0.50$ for web resolution, level one images for each sale. The maximum is
0.20 per uploaded image plus 60% of each sale for the exclusive photographers.
The maximum an image is sold for depends on the level that image has achieved
through it's sales. Dreamstime operates on credits packages and subscriptions. Credits
packages are bought once and expire after a year, the buyer can use them anytime s/he wishes. The monthly subscription is bought every month and allows you to
download up to 20 images per day at a smaller price. Users who wish to buy only
one or two images can use the instant buy feature that doesn't require logging
in or signing up. The minimum price per image is around 0.50$ for those who use
monthly subscriptions that offer a large amount of image (600) for a smaller
price. The highest price is 30$ per image of level 3, print size for guests who
use instant buy. They have a large amount of images from all type of categories and don't specialize in a certain subject but when a designer asks for a certain
type of image, photographers usually come up with that image on
request. Dreamstime statement: "Our company is best known for its care towards the customers,
low prices, professionalism, quality and an open mind to all suggestions. Or, in
short, best quality at the lowest prices." The site exists only in English for now, but has customers
from all over the world. They offer extended licenses to their customers
that are very useful to those who wish to use the images commercially. There is a pretty extensive forum that is open to all the site
members. The minimum requirements for a submitted image are at least
3MP of size, RGB space, saved at maximum jpg quality. There is no limit for the time an image can spend
online. There is no test for first time submissions, users simply
upload their images and they are reviewed by the image admins. All users receive
the refusal reasons in an email or an acceptance email. There is no maximum size but usually 25Mpx is big enough,
even for a illustration. If a user wishes a bigger file size s/he writes to dreamstime and they ask the photographer or illustrator about it. At the time being they have around 6000 submitters registered in
the database and there are 140 000 potential buyers registered and
usually 1000 guests online constantly during the day. All the restrictions of use are given in the terms and
conditions that can be found on the site: http://www.dreamstime.com/terms or http://www.dreamstime.com/aboutimages. The company plans on getting to 1 million images online in a
year from now and extend it's market with the the new licenses, attracting more and more customers through their "great quality
at great prices" policy.

| registration and submission procedure |

 |
Registration requieres the usual postal, adress and email information and the account is directly activated without the need of an activation code or link send to you by email. There are two ways to upload an image to Dreamstime, the easiest is "upload file" option in the menu "Photographers area" and the one that never works for me is a FTP upload found in the management area (where you also find other useful things like your account details) both extract meta data like keywords during the upload prozess. Dreamstime is the only site I know of that gives you an estimated time until your pic will be reviewed.
