About St Hilda's Church

The St. Hilda's church family is mostly made up of people who live nearby or used to, and some who come from miles away just because we're loveable!

Sunday Worship

Sunday Worship is built around two services each week:

         11.00am Morning Service

Our morning service is usually centred around the Eucharist with our Sunday Club meeting upstairs in the Upper Room to explore the faith together. On the second Sunday of each month, there is a united service called 2gether 2worship which seeks to bring us all together as we learn from each other, old and new alike! The 2gether 2worship service is a good starting point if you want to find our more about what St Hilda's Church is like.

      6.00pm Evening Prayer

Our evening service is focused around the order of Evensong found in the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. There are about ten of us who love to sing the traditional service together, and would love you to join in with us. However, once a month there is a united service at one of the local churches. Further details can be found in the weekly notices and on this website.

A guide to help you understand what happens in more depth at our services, can be found by clicking HERE

BUT

We are NOT just simply a church for a Sunday.

About the Tang Hall neighbourhood

Tang Hall is an established community of about 5,400, its housing and amenities built mainly in the 1930s. There is a mixture of privately owned and council properties, with an increasing number of buy-to-let houses which serve the local student population. We are an increasingly diverse community, with many people of all ages and backgrounds, and from all over the world. We have great local shops and the WONDERFUL Hull Road Park which runs along Tang Hall Beck, a large shallow stream teeming with ducks and geese. Student numbers are at about 15% and are growing because of further developments at both York University and York St John University. Bits of the neighbourhood may be regarded as economically and socially challenged.

The Parish of St Hilda was created in the 1920s and the original church on the site was consecrated in 1934. In 2000, work began on a multi- purpose building to replace the original church. The new church was opened in 2001. It is a great building, with a wonderful worship space and facilities for the local community. It occupies a central, prominent position on Tang Hall Lane, at the junction with Alcuin Avenue, the main roads running through the parish.

At the 11:00 service we usually get about 25 adults and 5-15 youngsters. We are AMAZINGLY friendly, and love growing together as Christian disciples.
