UP ALL NIGHT. BIG WHITE SUIT. ONE SMILE.

The last time I saw Cathy play was with her three piece band The Birthdays back in the early 1990’s. A young Cathy Stocker with all the panache and natural beauty of a rock star in the making. With her long flowing golden locks she rode her axe like a princess on her stallion, while small is beautiful Cathy created a raunchy image that was larger than life as she fronted such a powerful set.

So, it is of no surprise that to this day her beauty has matured along with her song writing and vocal chords. Now Cathy Stocker shows another face, just as beautiful and as original as ever.

Cathy sent me a three track EP which she had autographed and personalised, this is yet another piece of rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia that I will treasure forever.

UP ALL NIGHT. Like all good songs this one will have you singing along to it even long after it has finished. Along with a strong hook line and a great sounding acoustic guitar is a powerful blues harmonica line and a perfectly chosen violin accompaniment, add to this simple but clever hand percussions and a laidback kit, plus an almost floating bass line, and you have the perfect foundation for a very beautiful voice. The lyrics are nicely produced, clear and clean, and like all great songs I think this song will mature and stand the test of time.

BIG WHITE SUIT. This track follows on nicely from Up All Night, and a few bars into this song I can soon tell that this side of Cathy Stocker only comes with real life experiences. A fuller drum kit sound makes this a bit more powerful than the first song but still retains that folk acoustic feel. Once again Cathy’s lyrics are powerful, catchy and intriguing.

ONE SMILE. Time to layback again and ride on a very gentle wave of arpeggio and melody, caressed by the lightly sprinkled mixture of different instruments floating in and out of the stereo image. Cathy controls the direction of this masterpiece with her vocals clearly depicting this love story.

The EP is well recorded & well written, giving it a very professional production. If you have had a hard day then this could be the music to make your evening blossom into full bloom. This is what you get when you have a very beautiful woman, very beautiful songs.
