JON GOMM

by

Steve D Parker

I had heard a lot about this guy so when I found out that Jon was playing the New Roscoe in Leeds I thought I would see for myself if all I heard was true,

I was rushing to get there for the start of the show, but I had had some hassle before setting off and it was starting to get a little iffy that I would get there at all. So it was to my delight that as I walked across the car park that I could here what sounded like the support band still on stage. As I walked in I was greeted by another old show biz friend and venue promoter, John Keenan. He said you’ve just made it in time, he’s just come on stage. To my surprise as I looked through the crowd stood one man alone on that stage, it was Jon Gomm, making enough noise as to sound like a three or four piece band, and a good one at that.

Rock and pop security guard and promoter Mick Rix and Chris the drummer with the band Otherside had saved me a seat at the very front of the stage, with Chris's girlfriend Jo who was covering the gig for the Sandman magazine, prime spot for a class act like Jon. Every song seemed to get better and better, and just when I thought he had reached the climax of the show he hit me with a medley of songs that included a version of Purple Haze. All I can say is that if Hendrix had seen this guy play guitar he would have gone home and cried, Hendrix would have thought that he had covered every which way to play a guitar, but Gomm has such a unique style that he blew me away from start to finish.

He looks like Clapton, has a great voice, and his songs are totally amazing. I am still singing ‘ Afterglow ‘, four weeks after seeing him. I have studied the footage I shot of him, but I can’t see how it is humanly possible to play the way he does, and what a sound he creates too, it is massive, playing lead & rhythm guitar licks and getting the feel of ' upright bass lines ' complete with percussions, all at the same time from the one acoustic guitar, and harmony voices, this guy is pure genius, a must for all music fans.

Jon is a total showman and will keep you entertained all night.

Top class act.

I was Gomm smacked,

Heart Attack Steve.

P.S Maybe he's an alien ?
