Rita Gerlach's "Stepping Stones Magazine," an online publication, is candy for the eye--I mean elegant chocolate like Godiva--forget the m&ms. . I am honored that she has added me to the site! If you're a writer or lover of historical fiction, you ought to spend a few lovely moments looking over the place...

Rita Gerlach is the editor of Stepping Stones. She began writing around 1989 after attending a family reunion where her cousin, a famous   romance novelist, handed her a copy of one of her books. She has written articles for online magazines such as Writers Gazette, Will Write 4 Food, as well as the print magazine The Christian Communicator. She has completed four historical novels set in Maryland, Virginia, and England. Currently she is writing two more novels.

Born in Washington, D.C., Rita grew up in a large family in the Maryland suburbs, where there never seemed to be a dull moment. As far as any famous people in her family, Nora Roberts is her cousin, and it is Nora that gave her that signed copy at a family reunion. The elders in her family claim that storytelling is in their blood, handed down from centuries of Irish, English, and Scottish storytellers. Rita believes there may be some truth to that theory.

She is married to her high school sweetheart, and lives in historical Frederick, Maryland with their two sons.

Rita invites you to visit her website and sign her guestbook: http://www.freewebs.com/ritagerlach/index.htm

The Writer's Prayer

Open my mind, Lord.

Grant me the talent to write with clarity and style, so my words go down rich and smooth,
like fine wine, and leave my reader thirsty for more.

Open my heart, Lord.

Grant me the sensitivity to understand my characters--their hopes, their wants, their dreams--
and help me to confer that empathy to my reader.

Open my soul, Lord,

so I may be a channel to wisdom and creativity from beyond my Self.
Stoke my imagination with vivid imagery and vibrant perception.

But most of all, Lord, help me to know the Truth, so my fiction is more honest than actuality
and reaches the depths of my reader's soul.

Wrap these gifts with opportunity, perseverance, and the strength to resist those who insist it can't be done.

Amen.
