Kieran Mc Gilligan - Memories To Burn
Review by Martin @irishmusic.co.uk
Kieran's first album for two and a half years is a top class production;recorded
and mixed at Sprout Studios,Granard by Jonathan Owens.Top musicians, top sound and
of course Kieran's voice is one of the finest in the business.
Highlights for me include the two waltzes:"Dancing with Someone who Should Be My
Wife" and "Be Nice to the People You Meet Goin' Up" and the upbeat "I Feel Fine".
Other fine tracks include the opener "The Same old Love","Pinto the Wonder horse"
(which was last done by Brian Coll years ago),and "Because You Believed in Me",a
song in the same mould as Buckley's "You Gave me a Mountain" single; An excellent
song for an end of evening dance/smooch!!
The other songs I can take or leave and in all honesty don't make much of an
impression on me,but none the less are excellent versions of mediocre songs.
There's not an Irish (or Scottish) flavoured song in sight;which in my opinion is
a shame as he does such a great job on them;Checkout "Maries Wedding" on his last
album.Kieran also does great versions of sixties standards, but again none in sight.
Overall Rating 8/10 based on an average album scoring 5/10
Released on Gene Stuart's Shargem label,The album is already selling very well
and with the right airplay should be one of the top sellers this year.
