Taken from nathan's online fan club...

Hi Everyone , hope all is well with you and your families. The last few months have been hectic to say the least, There has been some great gigs with just myself and with the band as well. It has been great to see people from the groups at some of the gigs.

Unfortunately the album which was meant to be out in June never came out due to a recall on it, but i am hoping to get this out in early August

I feel it is now the right time to tell you all that i have been offered a deal in Ireland by a company
called JW Promotions. The guy who owns this is called James McGarrity and he is looking at putting me on the road with a full time band in February next year. The first two weeks of February we will be supporting the one and only George Jones in Ireland which i am absolutelydelighted by, and after this we will be going on the road touring the venues of Ireland.

I feel this is an opportunity i cant turn down and am really looking forward to it. Unfortunately it means i will have to based over in Ireland most of the time which will mean i wont see a lot of family and friends but i think i will rent a B&B so everyone can come and stay lol. I am going to finish off this year over here in England and do as many gigs as i possibly can. Hopefully this is going to be a step in the right direction as regards to becominga bigger name in the industry.

Id like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported me all through the last two years ,I have enjoyed every moment of it. Hopefully I will see you all in the not so distant  future. Do all keep in touch
And finally, I couldn't finish this without a very big thank you to Gill, I am sure that without her help none of this would have been possible, for the past eighteen months she has really promoted me very well in Ireland and made sure that as many people as possible got to hear my music, and of course my Nan ,Ann, who many of you know already  who has always travelled everywhere with me in England and encouraged me with my music career since I was young.

Best Wishes

BUSHTOWN HOTEL

FIRST EVER COUNTRY MUSIC WEEKEND

SATURDAY

This was the first time that the Bushtown Hotel have had a Country Music Weekend, this hotel is one of my very favourite venues, very welcoming, lovely building, great staff and best of all one of the best dance venues.

Stephen Doherty and myself arrived early evening,in time for Stephen to set up his deejay system etc, one of the first people we met was young Jason McGilligan, Keiran’s cousin, I had seen Jason on Glor Tire and at the Highland Radio concert, he made us feel very welcome and we chatted about the weekend etc.

By 9pm the room was filling up and the dancing started quite early, along to Stephens music, as always he was playing a lot of new releases and of course all of the popular Irish Country of the minute, the time went by quickly and it was soon time for compere Warren Smyth to take to the stage along with Keiron’s band, we had a few songs from Warren and then Brian Coll entertained us, he is a legend and everyone really enjoyed his singing, it was then time for Jason McGilligan, I  noticed how he had really got so much stronger since I saw him at Highland, he was very confident and his voice was very powerful, he sang a great selection including his latest single, GOODBYE TO AN ANGEL, this is a lovely song, I have heard it get a lot of airplay in the past few days, Jason also sang another song from his new 4 track..LOOKIN’ OUT MY BACK DOOR

It was then time for Keiran McGilligan to come on stage, Keiran is a very popular well established singer and is also part owner of the Bushtown Hotel, he had everyone enjoying themselves on the dance floor, it was lovely to see so many families there also, I was amazed how well some of the younger children danced, all very well behaved as well. Keiran finished off a very enjoyable and lively evening

SUNDAY

Jason started the evening off with a great mix of songs, new releases again, JAMBAYLIA,I STOPPED LOVING HER TODAY,IT’S ALRIGHT MAMA, and many others, he certainly looks to be enjoying himself while singing and very confident..Then is was the turn of the legendry Gene Stuart, he sang  NOT UNTIL THE NEXT TIME,BRING BACK THE WALTZES, PICK ME UP ON YOUR WAY DOWN and many others.

Then came the man we had all been waiting for, the one and only Mick Flavin, and of course, he didn’t disappoint, we were treated to JENNIFER JOHNSON, MARIA’S HEADING TO NEW YORK CITY, SAM’S PLACE, LIGHT IN THE CHURCH  and a lot more favourites, Mick is a lovely man, a real gentle giant and so very popular, again, another evening came to an end, I had a nice surprise, my friend Maurice Soy was in the audience, I have met Maurice a few times now, he actually wrote OUR HOUSE IS A HOME ( THERE’S ALWAYS A FIRE IN THE KITCHEN) Maurice is severely disabled with arthritis and lives in a care home, but very often one of his brothers will bring him to a gig, it is great to see him out and about, it was also good to meet up with Patsy McLoughlin, he is the drummer in Keiran’s band but used to play with John McNicholl,

MONDAY

This was the final night,,while we were sitting downstairs in the lobby of the hotel so many of the guests were coming up to Stephen and thanking him for the great music that he had been providing, they said how lovely it had been to hear so many of the new releases, some of which had only previously been  heard on radio as they were not yet released, it is good to get that type of feedback as the DJs are often forgotten, also each of the singers had thanked him while on stage.

First act of the evening was the ever popular radio presenter from Downtown Radio, Warren Smyth, Warren entertained us with with a great mix of songs which included  THE LOVE BUG, THE COYBOY RIDES AWAY, BLUE SUEDE SHOES  and  HELLO MARY LOU.

Jason McGilligan was next on , again he sang a great mix of songs ,he had many family members there to support him, including his lovely mum and dad and granny, as well as his usual songs he did a lot of jive numbers which went down very well. Keiran McGilligan was the final act of the weekend, another singer who seems to get better every time I see him, from him we had ASHES OF LOVE,, RIVERS OF BABYLON,,AND ENDED THE EVENING WITH  K.I.S.S.I.N.G, One thing I noticed over the weekend that there were quite a few men dancing together for some of the fast numbers, they were married or with partners but all just dancing for the sheer joy of it. All in all I would say it was an extremely successful weekend, I didn’t hear a single complaint, just a lot of praise from everyone who had attended, I really hope that they do it all again next year

DOMINIC KIRWAN AT BIDDY FRIELS

09-07-09

Had a brilliant night at Biddy Friels last night, Carol and I were joined by Nathan and his nan Ann, it was very busy, everyone very excited about seeing Dominic Kirwan.

Dominic bounced on to the stage looking just as he did when I first met him 12 yrs ago, he always has a twinkle in his eye and the females at Biddys  really appreciate that.

Dominic called me to the side of the stage and asked if it was Nathan with me, after a while he announced that a young and rising singing star was there and would they welcome him on stage, he also explained that

Nathan would be playing full time in Ireland after Christmas with a new band. Nathan sang two songs , including Pretty Little Girl From Omagh which went down very well and then was more or less mobbed for the rest of the evening.

I think Carol enjoyed her evening as she hasnt seen Dominic for a long time, he also announced that she was visiting all the way from Australia.

Dominic sang all of the old favourites as well as a couple of new ones from the forthcoming album, all of the band members sang a few numbers, with the exception of Eugene, the keyboard player, Eugene used to play with Michael English and John McNicholl.

Songs included…Galway Girl..Amarillo..Life is What You Make It.. then we had a great  Elvis selection..Teddy Bear, Jailhouse Rock.. and One of my favourites, Almost Persuaded, the finale included Rock around the Clock

The dance floor was very busy all night, many women trying to stay as close to the stage as possible, ( could you blame them),all too soon it was time to bring the night to a close, Nathan and I had a chat with some of the band, Barry was saying that Colm will be home next week and how much they are all looking forward to having him back in the band with them. Yet another brilliant evening

Dont forget next week at Biddys is Jimmy Buckley & his band and on the Friday 17th you've got the one and only Dickie Rock and his Band. Two Nights Not too be missed.  Contact me for a good deal including a meal at The Magnet Restuarant in Derry and luxury coach to Biddys.

ROBERT MIZZELL AT THE BUSHTOWN HOTEL

06-07-09

I have been to a few of these Monday night dances at the Bushtown Hotel, Coleraine in the past few weeks, I am continually amazed at how many people are venturing out on a Monday evening, especially when you hear that even some of the Saturday dances are not pulling the crowds in.

I think the secret here is the quality of the performer and the ambience at the venue, before last night I had only been into the function room where the dance is held, that in itself is very enjoyable, plenty of room and candles on every table etc and very helpful and pleasant staff, but last night we ventured into the restaurant and the cosy “snugs”, everywhere is spotless with a  country home atmosphere, the food is superb and I cant wait to sample the Carvery which is on every day, even more pleasing to me is a discount for senior citizens, quite unusual..

Now to the purpose of our visit last night, Robert Mizzell and his band were appearing so we knew we were in for a good evening, the other suprising thing is how early the people are arriving, by 9.30=10pm the place was almost full, even though the dance didn’t start until 11.15pm. . the crowd were   dancing for a good hour before the main act came on, again, this in itself is unusual, Stephen D, the new resident D J plays all of the new releases and of course all of the favourites as well, a great mix of jives, waltz ,quicksteps etc, the floor was full and the sound  was perfect too which is a bonus in itself.

As always, Robert and the Country Kings gave us a music packed two hours, some new songs which will be on the next album and  many favourites of old, Robert knew so many of the people there and everyone got personal hello’s and mentions, the band all compliment each other and Billy Condon’s fiddle playing is always so popular, it is very obvious that they all get on so well together on and off stage,. I am already counting the days until I can see Robert and boys again. I sometimes wonder how the dancers manage to even move let alone dance but they certainly do, and for the full two hours.

I am looking forward to next weekend when the Bushtown will be hosting their first three day Country Music Festival with big names, including Mick Flavin, Keiron McGilligan, Warren Smyth, Brian Coll,,Gene Stuart, and Jason McGilligan

Some of the names to look forward to over the coming Mondays are Stephen Smyth, John McNicholl, Mike Denver and Jimmy Buckley and Dee Reilly and I cant wait  Also in the near future you have a new singer who has just put his first band on the road and hes under the management of Cajun Promotions his name is Liam Mannering, watch out for him coming soon to the Bushtown House Hotel in Coleraine.

MELLON COUNTRY INN

OMAGH

Last night I went to see Gary Gamble, he was playing just down the road from me which was very handy and made a nice change. The Mellon Country Inn in Omagh is a very nice venue and hotel, their Friday Night Country Nights  have created a large following , the one thing I have found missing though, they dont have a Dee Jay for the 2 hours before the dance, the time seemed to drag, I hadnt realised before how much I enjoy listening to the current hits and the new releases while just sitting relaxing and waiting for the dance to begin
The band came on stage and then announced Gary,  well I dont know where the next two hours went !!!, it just raced by, we were treated to all of the best of Gary's music old and new, Gary's latest single  The Galtimore Song went down very well, we also sang along to a lot of the tracks, as always when Gary is performing the dance floor was full all evening. Gary also has quite a rapport with the crowd between tracks which I notice people always enjoy
What I have always liked about Gary is the way he spends a lot of time walking around and chatting to everyone before the dance starts,.I noticed  that the very first time that I spent a week on the road with him and the band 5 years ago in Scotland, I think it is a lovely touch and very few of the singers do, I also noticed Mike Denver did recently.
Gary's band are all very talented as well and they all sing a few solo songs, all too soon it was time to say goodbye to everyone.
I would like to wish Gary a very Happy Birthday for tomorrow, July 5th..    Gill

THE BUSHTOWN HOUSE HOTEL

THE INDIANS AT BUSHTOWN

The night got off to a very good start on Monday, Stephen got the crowd up and dancing very early on with his disco of all the latest in Irish country music, new releases and a lot of favourites.  One of the big favourites is The Galway Girl, it always seems to get everyone onto the floor

I have noticed how the different artistes attract very different crowds, last night the average age would have been around 45 and an even mix of male and female and by 10pm it was standing room only, I find this amazing for a Monday evening, Stephen entertained from 9pm until 11.30pm, the atmosphere seemed quite tense with excitement in the air…

Then the band appeared on stage , already the music had a real Indian beat to it, you expected a row of Indians to appear over a hill, but instead what did we get “ Big Chief  Sitting Bull “” in all his glory, white suit and the largest Indian head dress you could imagine, it was a sight to behold, he and all the band had warpaint on and were all looking very authentic, he arrived on stage to strobe lighting and the crowd went wild.

The band certainly had a lot of regular followers in and they knew exactly what music they wanted, Jambalaya..Galway Girl..They’re Gonna Put Me In The Movies..Please Release Me……Bed of Roses had everyone clapping along. There were quite a number of men dancing alone in a total wild abandonment, jumping, swaying, I have never seen anything like it.

We were then treated to Amarillo..The Wonder of You..Wigwam Wiggle which everyone loved, the evening finished with The American Trilogy which was very powerful,   The Indians are such a talented band and I for one cant wait to see them again soon

Shawn Cuddy

I had never been to the Bushtown Hotel,  Coleraine before, it is a very nice venue, plenty of seating and a fair size dance floor, lovely atmosphere with candles on each table

As always, Stephen had a great choice of music which he played for two hours prior to Shawn and the band coming on stage, it was good to sit and relax listening to new releases and all other favourites,.I had a chat with Aisling Ennis, her partner is young Dominic in the band, they are expecting their first baby in just over 4 weeks, they are both very excited as you can imagine.

It got full early on, everyone in high spirits with some of the guests dressed as cowboys,  I have noticed that people who go to see Shawn are always in great spirits before the evening gets started, you just know you are in for a great evening.

The band came on just after 11pm, I was looking forward to the evening , as well as loving Shawn’s music I am a big fan of Johnny ,the keyboard player, I first met Johnny almost 5 years ago when he played with Gary Gamble, he then went to Collette and Jive Beat and then John McNicholl, I am happy to say he has been settled with Shawn for quite a while now so I get many occasions where I can enjoy hearing his great voice. And as always Johnny sang many numbers.

Shawn came on to huge applause, and for the next two hours we were treated  to the best of Shawn’s repertoire, old, new, covers etc, the floor was never empty and Shawn seemed to know everyone by name.

We had many of the usual favourites..opening with  HERE WE GO ROUND THE MERRY GO ROUND, so everyone was waving their arms around, we had LEAVING OF LIVERPOOL, BLUE SUEDE SHOES AND SO MANY MORE. One of the really popular ones was  THE HUCKLEBUCK

I think another reason that Shawn is so popular is the way he interacts with everyone, twice during the evening he had two friends on the stage singing with him, both of these people had Downs Syndrome and they enjoyed themselves so much singing along on stage with Shawn, he always makes us all feel very special. I am sure that everyone had a great evening, I know that I really enjoyed it.

All to soon it was the end of the evening, we said our goodbyes and set off, dont forget that Shaun will be Stephen Dohertys LIVE Guest on Tues 30th June 09 at ICR FM.  He will be playing his brand new Single.

I'm looking forward to the First Ever Country Weekend in Coleraine - more details soon...

MIKE DENVER AND HIS BAND AT BIDDY FRIELS

I made sure that I arrived early at Biddy’s on Thursday evening as I know that Mike Denver is one of the most popular singers on the scene,  the venue was already filling up by ten pm which is unusual. I was pleased to meet up with an old friend, Aiden Cunningham, he is in Mike’s band, something I did notice was that Mike walked around and had a chat with everyone before the show started, I always think this is very important and people just love to have Mike come over to them.

The early part of the evening was very lively with Stephen Doherty in charge of a great disco, the  atmosphere, as always was great. Stephen played all the latest releases and a lot more of the popular stuff also, once again was good to hear him chatting too.

Very soon it was 11pm and the band came on to the stage to much cheering, then Mike came bouncing in, he looked just perfect all in white, …suit, shirt, shoes and Stetson, that lad definitely has the “whole package” and didn’t the women let him know it, they were there up at the stage just wanting to touch him, the last time I actually saw that was at a David Essex concert in the 80s. Fair play to Mike,he had no problem at all with so much attention , he never missed a note while shaking hands and giving a hug and a kiss where it was wanted.

Mike sang one of my favourite tracks from his album, it is “As Happy as we Were “ such a lovely song, this was followed by all the familiar songs…The Real Deal..Old Flames..Sweet Caroline..Sylvia’s Mother..Seasons in the Sun and many more, it was the first time I had heard “ The Chain of Love” sung live, it was just perfect.

All too soon it was 1am and time to finish, everyone was so happy, ( although not because it was the end ) there had been so many requests and hello’s to everyone ,people had travelled very long distances and I could see why, it was a fantastic night.

I also enjoyed meeting up with another friend, the singer Sharon Nixon, she is a lovely bubbly girl and a very talented singer as well, she sat with myself, Stephen Doherty ,Aisling and Stephen’s friend Martin so it made for a very pleasant evening altogether and Gill got her “Sausages at the end of the night”.

SEAN CORRIGAN LAUNCH NIGHT

I met Sean Corrigan for the first time a couple of weeks ago, but had been enjoying his music long before that, when I heard about his album launch I decided to go along to Sadlers in Boyle to join in the fun…and fun was what we got.

The venue was packed to the rafters, it was lovely to see so many friends there, Wes Picket, Paul Rooney, Wayne and Sharon Thorose just to name a few, I met Michael Fox, a presenter at Midwest radio also, we have been in touch for a year but never met, so that was an added bonus.

Among the artistes contributing to the evening’s entertainment were Shaun Loughery, the Benn Sisters, Seamus Moore, Carmel McLaughlan,Sharon Nixon, Ali and Marion Harron, Anthony McBrien ,Elizabeth Douglas, Noel Cassidy and many more, every single act was excellent and of course with accompaniment by Country Harmony what else would you expect, Sean himself finished off the evening with a great selection of his songs with everyone still wanting more but sadly time had caught up with us.

I wish Sean every success with his new album, it is getting a lot of airplay and proving very popular with presenters and listeners alike. Well done Sean and all the very best wishes for the future for the future

Patrick Feeney pictured with Gill Marseilles

Where do I start about Patrick Feeney’s performance at Biddy Friels.?

I have never made a secret of the fact that I think Patrick has one of the best voices in Ireland, that is only my personal opinion, but one I have held since my first time of seeing him five years ago.

As many of you will know, Patrick has been off the dance scene in Ireland for a year now , in that time he has worked and travelled in USA and also had a concert tour in Ireland, but judging from the reaction last night everyone was thrilled to have Patrick and his new show back in the dance halls.

The band consists of members already known to many people, all very talented in their field.

To start the evening and to get everyone in the mood we had a change of deejay last night, Pio McCann the resident deejay is away in USA and was very ably replaced by Stephen Doherty of Inishowen Community Radio, Stephen played everyone’s favourites and soon had the crowd up dancing,it was a refreshing change to hear some chat between some of the tracks, Stephen did a great job and I know he is looking forward to his remaining time there, also venturing more into the field of live gigs. the time flew by and  then it was what we had all been waiting for…THE PATRICK FEENEY SHOW and boy, was it worth waiting for…

The band introduced Patrick and he came bouncing on stage looking fitter than ever and so very smart in a blue suit , you could’nt hear the opening music for the cheers and screaming, Patrick sang songs old and new including WIND BENEATH MY HEELS, GALWAY GIRL,WINGS OF A DOVE but when he sang ELIZABETH it made the hairs on my neck stand up, this is a song he always dedicates to his mother and last night he sang it with such power and feeling, We were also treated to the new single…LIVIN LIFE LOVIN YOU…………….. which was brilliant and getting a lot of airplay here in Ireland

As the evening got hotter Patrick removed his jacket and I thought the screaming would raise the roof, and imagine the noise again when he undid his top shirt button !!!!

The band were excellent, my very favourite was when young John played IN THE MOOD on the sax, the sound was just haunting, the dancers really enjoyed that number.

          Throughout the evening Patrick sang

MORE THAN YESTERDAY….ALWAYS ON MY MIND  among others, then it was party time and this included Simple Simon Said and some great Elvis numbers, the crowd did not want to let Patrick go but sadly time was up, it really was a great evening and the atmosphere at Biddy Friels was electric, I especially enjoyed listening to the saxophone playing the Anthem at the end of the evening, it was very emotional.                As always Patrick spent time chatting and having photos taken etc, I for one just cant wait to catch up with Patrick and lads again…very soon I hope

Patrick telling me that he has a new single out very soon and hes in the middle of recording a brand new Country Album and I'm really looking forward to this alot, I will be interviewing Patrick when the New CD comes out.  Patrick and the Band are a really Nice bunch of lads, anyway many thanks Gill for the report and Gill is off to get ready for another night of top country music this time at the Half-way House in Burnfoot in Co.Donegal with John Mc Nicholl and next week Gill will be at Sean Corrigans Launch Night dont miss the report on that as well.

DU PONT SOCIAL CLUB

DERRY

WITH

ROBERT MIZZELL & COUNTRY KINGS

On Saturday I visited a venue that was new to me, The Du-pont Club in Derry, it is the social club of a huge factory, I arrived on my own and found the staff there to be so friendy,it was a very pleasant venue, bar, restaurant, good size stage and dance floor,.

While I was waiting for Stephen Doherty and his partner Aisling to arrive I spent time chatting with Wayne Thorose and his wife Sharon, Wayne is Robert's keyboard player and a very talented one too, we first became friends on MYSPACE when Wayne helped me to set my site up, since then we have become friends and I have met him and Sharon many times, also Wayne is a Londoner like myself.

I couldn't believe the price of the drinks, so very cheap but I was told this is because it is a social club, Stephen and Aisling arrived and then it was time for Robert and the boys to come on stage, I have never seen Robert give a bad performance, but on Saturday I would say he was the best I have ever seen him, the band always look so smart and of course Robert is the ultimate cowboy, he looked so elegant in his black suit with vibrant red embroidery on and as always his trademark stetson,he sang many of the songs that he is known for and also some from his forthcoming album which is called REDNECK MAN, this will also feature a duet with the legendary Colin Raye from USA.

The dance floor was full all evening,it was obvious that everyone had a very enjoyable evening, one of the highlights for me is the fantastic fiddle playing of Billy Condon, he must be one of the best fiddle players in the business, all of the band are brilliant and most of them have there own solo singing spots.
All too soon the evening came to an end,it is always fun having a chat with Dave, Roberts merchandise person and I am sure many other roles, ( also a facebook friend lol)  It was Stephens first time of seeing Robert live, we had photos and a chat and then we headed for home. It was yet another very enjoyable night with the best in Country Music.

SHAUN LOUGHREY

GILL PICTURED WITH SHAUN LOUGHREY

I met up with Stephen Doherty and Aisling around 11pm,I was really looking forward to seeing Shaun Loughery again as I havent seen him in ages, He has only been on the road for three and a half years and has done so very well in that short time, he really does get better each time I see him, as always he sang a wide variety of songs, including many from his latest album. Shaun puts a lot of emotion in to the more serious songs, especially  A Rock and a Pillar, that always brings a lump to my throat.

We were treated to Shauns new single The Big Iron which he kindly dedicated to me,I thought it was a lovely song , very powerful and am looking forward now to hearing it on the album.

Seans New Cd Called Back Home To You will be out in 3-4 weeks, we heard that from the man himself.
    T

The band were also on excellent form last night, Ryan Turner had been brought in to replace Marty Pollock who was not too well, As always Ryan did a brilliant job ,especially with little rehearsal,he is one of the true professionals and also sang a number of vocals, also good to see my old friend Pat Deegan on guitar, Pat is a very talented musician and also has a great voice, all in all it was a very enjoyable evening and good to know that Shaun will be playing in the area again very shortly, I will be looking forward to that

Gill will next reporting from Du Pont Club in Derry with Robert Mizzell & Country Kings
