Stephanie Ott’s Angels for

Aplastic Anemia Foundation

This foundation has being created to help Families whose children have been diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. We will help as many families as we can with financial needs, information and emotional support though their journey. May the lord bless you and please refer any family or questions to our e-mail address at slojsw@aol.com

Stephanie was originally diagnosed with ITP and told children usually grow out of this. In the fall of 2001 our lives where forever to be changed when a bone marrow aspiration was preformed at West Virginia University Hospital. We where told Stephanie has Aplastic Anemia. At the time we had no idea what this was but over the next two and half years came to find out this was the beginning of our worst nightmare. Stephanie was taken to Duke University where she was put on the list for a bone marrow transplant. However no match could be found and all they could offer was a 15% chance to survive a cord blood match of 5/6.Thruout the course of this disease Stephanie received hundreds of blood and platelet transfusions. She received “ATG” (horse serum) and “ATG” (rabbit serum) with little effect to a cure. After countless hours of research and phone calls to all the top specialists we could find, our hand was forced in late November. Stephanie was taken to WVU and diagnosed with fungrial sinusitis. Our little girl was fighting for her life, so we made the decision to have her flown to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and put under the care of Dr. David Margolis, one of the best in this field of medicine. Stephanie was soon on the track to getting better, and now was the time for a haploidentical stem cell transplant. Stephanie received her cells on February 14,2004 from her father, and soon she was on the road to a new life. The cell lines we watched for over 2 years started to come up to normal around the 1st of March. But our happiness was short lived. Around the 15th of March we learned of another virus, this Adenovirus is deadly to people that have haploidentical transplants and have no T-cells. Stephanie fought this virus for over 3 months with both courage and determination beyond any imagination. On May 19th at 8:45pm the pain endured by our little girl could no longer be accepted and the Lord sent her angel to lead her home.
