The history of Stella In 1842, brewers in Pilsen, in Bohemia, developed a clear, golden colored, low fermentation beer using exceptionally delicate hops. The result was startlingly different from traditional dark, cloudy brews. At the same time, with industrialization, customers switched to glass from stoneware or pewter drinking vessels. Known as Pilsner-in Belgium it's called Pils-this new lager beer rapidly became the most popular drink across Northern Europe.

Stella Artois - The Classic European Beer

Stella Artois has an even longer history. The first tax records for the Den Hoorn brewery in the university town of Louvain date back to 1366. In 1708, Sebastien Artois was awarded the fiercely contested title of Master Brewer of Den Hoorn. From that date, the name Artois was associated with the town of Louvain, its brewery and great Belgian beers. In 1926, following a time-honored tradition, the brewery produced its annual special Christmas beer. The beer was so exceptionally clear that it was immediately christened Stellafrom the Latin for star. It was so popular that production moved to a year-round basis. Stella is now the known as the Beer from the land of beer". It has become the classic Belgian beer. And the classic European beer.
