DEAR HOLLYWOOD, STOP BASHING THE STARS AND BARS

I like to watch a lot of crime shows on television.  I'm sick and tired of watching the cops bust into some nut jobs house and seeing the Nazi flag and the Confederate Flag on their walls.  There is no comparison between the two.

If I had a Confederate flag flying underneath my American flag, I'd probably be chased out of my neighborhood.  If a German immigrant had a German flag (not Nazi) flying underneath their American flag there wouldn't be a problem.  You remember the German people from World War II, who swore they new nothing about the slaughter of the Jewish people.  I guess they couldn't smell the rotting and burning flesh in the air.

My great, great grandfathers fought for both the North and South.  I mention on the second page of this site that the South was wrong.  No man, woman, or child should be a slave.  I believe all men are created equal and that a person should be judged by their character and not by the color of their skin.

The American flag has plenty of blood on it and it doesn't just represent those who lost their lives in the American Revolution.  Some of that blood is from the American Indians.  You know, the ones we stole this land of ours from.  I love our country, don't get me wrong.  I served twelve years in the military to protect it, but let's not act like our flag is some god-like vision of perfection.

So, Hollywood, get off your liberal high-horse and face the reality of your own flag.  P.S. - Not everyone in the South owned a plantation during the Civil War.

STEELE/YOUNG AND ALLIED FAMILIES

This website was built to honor my father Julian Thornton Steele Jr., and my mother Melba Luverna Young.  Of course, just like all families, we have a long list of other surnames in our heritage.

Our ancestors came from England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany (?), and God knows where else.  Early ancestors settled in New England and later moved on.  Most of my Steele/Young family history takes place in Virginia and West Virginia.

VIRGINIA (STUMP) YOUNG

When my grandmother Leila died in the early 1930s, my grandfather Orville eventually remarried.  His new wife's name was Virginia Stump.  Orville and her are responsible for all the wonderful aunts, uncles, and cousins I have.

Virginia (grandma) always treated me as an equal grandchild, even though we were not blood.  I will always have a place in my heart for her and I still feel her love for me today like the sun shinning down from the heavens.

She is one of the greatest persons I'll ever know and she taught me the true meaning of family.
