First due dwelling
At 10:46 last evening, Department and automatic aid companies were dispatched to a dwelling fire at 326 Prospect Ave; initial calls reported heavy smoke and the odor of something burning in the area. Chief 32 arrived and confirmed fire on the first floor in the rear of a two and a half story twin. Upon arrival, crews from Engine 32-1 and Quint 31 pulled an attack line and attempted entry into the front of the building; due to extreme hoarding conditions throughout the dwelling, crews were unable to make entry to the first floor. Handlines were redeployed to the rear as crews began taking windows to attack the fire from the exterior. Due to these extreme hoarding conditions, the fire was able to spread vertically into the second floor and roof area. Crews operating in the “B” exposure, and on the roof, were able to stop the spread of fire to the neighboring unit as crews attacking the fire from the exterior deployed additional handlines and a master stream to bring the fire under control. Department units and multiple mutual aid companies operated for over four hours before clearing the scene.
