ACCRINGTON Stanley u/12 have reached the semi finals of the LFA Cup for the second season running after a hard-fought victory over league rivals Mellor Juniors.
It was the third time the Reds had got the better of their fellow Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and District Junior and Youth League side but it was a far from convincing victory.
Having completed a league double over Mellor, Reds were hot favourites to make it three out of three.

But despite two early chances to take the lead, Stanley looked nervy and it was Mellor who were playing the more attractive football - but without really threatening the opponents' goal.
Reds skipper Jordan Scott went close in the opening minutes, firing wide when well place then curled a free kick on to the roof of the net.
Mellor had chances of their own when Stephen McGill threaded a pass through to Obeid Soge who was bundled over on the edge of the area. But Mellor could not capitalise from the free kick and one that followed moments later.
Stanley did make their next chance count when Aaron Butterworth released Brayden Shaw who finished with confidence.
It should have settled Accrington nerves but there was still an edgy feel about their play. In contrast, Mellor appeared comfortable on the ball typified soon after in the move of the match.
Jack Ellison broke from the edge of his own area then showed great awareness to switch play to Jordan Bury who in turn split the Stanley defence to set Soge racing in on goal. But the striker dragged his shot wide with just the keeper to beat.
Jordan Faulkner then sent in a deep cross that Dom Walsh met with a firmly struck volley but Stanley keeper Bradley Howe got down low to beat away the shot.
It was a let off for Stanley who went in to the break with a two goal cushion when Dale Poulton exchanged passes with Butterworth before firing low beyond Corey Whistler in the Mellor goal.
While Mellor continued to work hard after the restart, Stanley grew in confidence with skipper Scott becoming more and more influential.
But there was another let off for Stanley when Brad Juliff's lofted pass out of defence gave Soge a great chance to cut the deficit but again he failed to hit the target.
In the final quarter, Whistler was becoming the busiest player on the pitch in the Mellor goal underlining Stanley's increasing grip on the game.
Brayden Shaw volleyed a Scott corner over the bar before Whistler did well to palm away a close range Scott volley.
Whistler then dived full length to finger tip away a long range effort from Scott then beat away Wayne Skinner's effort from the resulting corner.
But Stanley's pressure eventually paid off and typically Scott was in the thick of the action.
The midfielder picked the ball up on the right touchline and threaded a superb ball through to Butterworth who stroked the ball beyond the advancing Whistler.
In the end, it was a comfortable victory but Stanley know they need to raise their game if they are to reach the LFA final.

TUESDAY 20TH FEBRUARY AT THE COUNTY GROUND LEYLAND

GOALSCORERS RYAN PUNCH,JACK WARREN,AARON JONES,JORDAN KNOTT

Last Tuesday saw Accrington Stanley Juniors take on Poulton Youth in the final of the under 12's LFA Cup at the County Ground Leyland. The pressure was on Stanley as if they were to win then the club would become the first in history to hold the title at 2 different age groups, following the under 15's win a few weeks ago.
A large crowd at the County Ground saw Stanley set of at a tremendous pace, playing some great fast flowing football.  This was rewarded as a superb ball down the left wing by Scott Duxbury found Harrison Parrington.  The winger left the Poulton full back for dead and delivered a sweet low cross which Ryan Punch tucked away at the far post.
1-0 to Stanley and all the pressure was in the Poulton half.  Stanley's front two of Aaron Jones and Jack Warren worked tremendously hard and got their just reward half way through the firs half when Cunningham played the ball to Warren and the forward showed tremendous pace to race through and tuck the ball past the Poulton keeper.Stanley's back four of Hurley, Marsden, Drelincourt and Harrington were solid  and the few attacks that Poulton had were dealt with comfortably, so be it that Stanley's keeper Thomas Burrows didn't have a touch of the ball untill 24 minutes had passed. Poulton forced a little bit of pressure in the closing minutes going close twice but at the interval it was 2-0 to Stanley.
The second half started as the first half had finished with Poulton putting a bit of pressure onto the Stanley defence but even so Stanley never stopped their passing game which was a delight to watch.
A fine save by Burrows in the Stanley goal was cruical at 2-0 and the next move ended in Stanley's third goal.Danny Lomax was involved and as the ball fell to Jordan Knott he was fouled in the box but good advantage was played by the referee and Scott Duxbury tucked the ball into the left hand corner of the Poulton goal.At this late stage of the game Stanley's superb passing football was a pleasure to watch and their 4th goal reflected the way that the team had played with no fewer than seven players involved in the move.Fullback Marsden played the ball to Ryan Punch, the right winger who had never stopped running all night pushed the ball inside to the captain Duxbury.  He played the ball back to the centre half Drelincourt who found Lomax in plenty of space.  He in turn sent Parrington free down the left wing and unselfishly the winger found Knott in the box who put the ball away.Stanley were determined to finish the night with a clean sheet, Danny Barber coming on for Harrington at the back slotted in well and the whole of Stanley's midfield and forward line never stopped helping out to what was a great team performance.
At the final whistle both sets of players shook hands and the Stanley players were applauded quite rirghtly doing a lap of honour that they deserved.  Poulton had no doubt deserved to play in the final but were simply outclassed on the night by an awsome team performance by the young Stanley side.

A large vociferous crowd well represented by both clubs, more scouts than a jamboree and 31 players eager for kick off.  On a perfect night for football under the flood lit glare the players come down the tunnel to the Ant and Dec classic “lets get ready to rumble” they shake hands champions league style ready for the 7 o’clock kick off, 7.01pm its one nil to Charnock Richard as an innocuous free kick on the touchline adjacent to the edge of the 18 yard box has inexplicably looped over goal keeper Scott Friend’s head.  What follows from last seasons double winners Accy can at best be described as nervy football, with Charnock Richard stroking the ball about confidently and probing the Accy defence.  But as the Accy back four Smith, Harkness, Butterworth and Hodges, who have only conceded 2 goals in the previous six rounds, settle down Accy start getting back in the game, some tough tackling in centre mid by Luke Richards and Captain Louis Almond and good work by wingers Jackson and Hartley result  in pressure on the Charnock Richard goal with Louis Almond firing in shot after shot gradually finding his range on goal, a lovely through ball sets Matt Collinson in the box one on one only for the keeper to come out like a flash to take it from his feet.  Bobby Langford battles hard up front but its still one nil at half time.

With the managers team talk still ringing in their ears Accy come out and start to look like champions elect.  Alex Johnson and Matt Smalley replace Collinson and Langford up front and Kamran Anwar replaces Butterworth in defence.  The fresh legs up front start to make a difference Matt Smalley going close twice with two shots going just over the bar, then a good through ball sees Alex Johnson one on one only to be deprived of a goal by another piece of brave keeping, Phil Smith hits the post and Louis Almond hits the underside of the bar with a curling free kick, wave after wave of attacking  follows but it looks like its not going to be Accy’s night.  Liam Duckworth replaces Jonny Hartley and starts threading balls through but still no goal.  With one minute remaining a huge goal mouth scramble results in Phil Smth lashing the ball in to the back of the net, final whistle, extra time.

Accy huff and puff but cant get the winner they deserve, then the dreaded penalties.Charnock Richard first, brilliantly saved by Scott Friend, Louis Almond scores for Accy then a Charnock Richard  goal Kamran Anwar coolly scores next, Matt Smalley confidently puts his away, Anthony Hodges to win it skies the ball over the bar but Scott Friend  saves again no need for Harkness to take his penalty

Accrington Stanley win 3 2

Football the winner,a great atmosphere, two combative teams and a dream finish for Accrington Stanley the first winners of the fragrance oils under 15’s  LFA youth cup.
