Our pattern of arriving around 10 am to 11am at crowded marinas has prooved very good and after an early morning swim in the beautiful clear water of the Pokleni Islands and breakfast along the way we were fortunate to be able to get into this very crowded marina which was recommended to us by the Hubbles where they stayed on their cruise thru Croatia last year.
Ida, Stan and myself went for a swim around the other side of the island which is very popular with backpackers you need reef shoes to get into the water which is all little sharp rocks but the water was clear and cool and refreshed us for the evening we were to spend in Hvar.
We caught the little ferry from the marina which was full to capacity and driven by a rather reckless skipper who steered the boat with his foot while he talked away to some friends on the front of the boat which was extremely overcrowded.
We all split up to explore this exciting 13th Century town. Ida, Leo, Jan and Peter clim bed up the hill to the Cathederal while Stan and I were quite content to wander along the water front and oggle at all the huge boats moored there. Two 120ft floating mansions of yachts worth many millions of dollars not to mention the motor launches even bigger and even more expensive with names like Obsession II and Margaret Anne V.
We settled for a restaurant in the town square surrounded by white lime stone walls, cobbled stones and the buildings have shuttered windows with ornate architraves and the Cathederal bell ringing every hour. We had just chosen a nice white wine and Ida and Leo joined us, they had walked up to the Cathederal but did not advise us to do likewise and settled down to a cold drink and we had a relaxing dinner watching the sun set over this magic town.
The nights activity was a fashion parade in front of one of the oldest buildings which was all lit up and the new seasons Croation fashions were fantastic but I am sorry to say none in my size (thank God says Stan).
