Video Game Guitar Tabs

Update - 9/29/07

Hello everybody!  School is officially kicking my butt, so things are going to be a little slow for a bit (at least until I can discipline myself to maximize my time...but knowing myself, that probably won't happen).  The most exciting news is that I've become an affiliate with game music affiliates!  You can visit the website here:

www.vgsheets.com

I have my own forum section and amazing powers with lots of special red buttons.  So if you want to come by my section of the forum and say...whatever, feel free to do so.  The folks there are real nice, so don't be shy.  Just so you know, all the other affiliates are piano sheet oriented, so don't expect to see much other guitar music.  I'll add links to their websites later when I figure out a good format to do so.

In other news, I've been thinking a lot about this site, and I think I'm going to change the format so that I don't do updates, but just add the songs as I arrange them...but I'll need to think of a better format to do that, so don't expect anything new right away.

Also, in order to better keep my interest in arranging video game music, I've come up with a project that I think sounds like a lot of fun.  I'm going to focus on music from Chrono Trigger and make a bunch of tabs from it, then (depending on the circumstances), I might make a big, medley video with all the songs I've arranged and post it on youtube (although I might just end up making a bunch of separate videos with my crappy webcam...we'll see).  If you want more details or want to pitch in ideas, you can check out my section of the forum at vgsheets.com.  So without further ado, here's my first arrangement for my Chrono Trigger Guitar-Tab Project-Extravaganza! (I guess it's actually my fifth arrangement, since I've already arranged four other songs from Chrono Trigger...)

       Chrono Trigger - Cathedral - ptb - pdf - txt - midi

By the way, this doesn't exactly mean that I'm just going to be posting Chrono Trigger music for a good long time.  I might get around to arranging other stuff, seeing how do have a plethora of half finished arrangements that just lost steam.  We'll see.

I also made two new videos since last time:

Final Fantasy IX - Melodies of Life
Final Fantasy X - Silence Before the Storm

One last thing, I'm in a taiko drumming group (taiko = big Japanese drums), and I've been learning the recorder so that at performances, while people are setting up the drums in between songs, I can play some Japanese melodies to entertain the audience.  I've found some Japanese melodies, but they aren't in a very good key for the recorder (they mostly go too low, and if I play them an octave higher, they go into the "unbearably shrill" range of the recorder), so I thought, since I have the means to do so, that I'd start a new section of this website for these Japanese melodies transcribed so they're easier to play on the recorder.  Since I'm a beginner at recorder, it will be set up for beginners, with diagrams on the songs on how to play each note and...stuff.  I'll post more on that later.

Oh yeah, and
Happy First Birthday, Video Game Guitar Tabs!!!  (even though it was on the 22nd)

Update - 7/25/07

So, a couple of things have happened since my last update.  1) I discovered powertab, which is a much more awesome program for guitar tabs than finale, so I've begun using that (that means that I'll add a txt version and a midi to my new tabs, and have the powertab version instead of the .mus version), and 2) I've had my tabs put up on the website www.gametabs.net.  This second point sort of makes this site obsolete...but being quite fond of my website, I think I'll keep it, and make it more personalized, like maybe add some original stuff, expand the miscellaneous section, and do more audio and video additions.

Also, I've been thinking about something else, and that's fingering.  It's always helped me to better learn a piece when I figure out the fingering by myself, and I often find fingering tips more of a hindrance than a help, so I've never really bothered to suggest fingerings.  However, not everybody feels this way, and I'd like to know what you all think about me suggesting fingerings in my tabs by either signing the guestbook or emailing me at stamen47@yahoo.com.  If enough people feel it would be helpful enough, I'll start working on that.

Anyway, here are the new tabs:

Banjo Kazooie - Treasure Trove Cove - ptb - pdf - tab - midi
Final Fantasy VI - Mog - .mus - pdf
       Lemmings - Fun Level 8 - ptb - pdf - tab - midi
The Secret of Monkey Island - Intro - ptb - pdf - tab - midi

Pokemon TV Show - Theme - ptb - pdf - tab - midi

Songs for 2+ guitars

For this update, I've added the .mus files for all the songs, so you can open the songs with Finale Notepad and listen to it or make changes to it as you please.  I've also added three songs:

Update - 3/27/07

Haha! I figured out how to get my videos onto youtube.  I win this time, technology.

Chrono Trigger - Wind Scene
Final Fantasy VI - Celes
Final Fantasy X - Spira Unplugged
Super Mario 64 - Water Theme
Super Mario World - Various Themes

And here's a link to my youtube profile, Stamen47.

Update 3/20/07

I got a bunch of new tabs, but I need more time to figure out how to get the videos from my camera to the computer.  Cursed technology!

Update 2/6/07

For this update, I've changed the site up a bit.  My sister had a baby, and her husband bought a video camera for the event (Ew! Actually, he got it to record the newborn, not the birth itself), so I'll be borrowing that in the following weeks to post videos on youtube.com.  I've also got some recordings of songs I've arranged for multiple guitar/bass parts, so I'll be adding the audio for those (and maybe the tabs if people ask for them).  In short, this update is a precursor to a big content update in maybe a month or two, possibly sooner (but knowing myself, probably not).

Update 12/21/06

This update is to wish all 130 people who have visited this site (in all fairness, about half of those 130 people are me) a merry Christmas!  I added a Christmas song, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, arranged by Marc Hanson (but figured out by me), and Ami from FFVIII.  Enjoy, and Merry Christmas!

Update 11/9/06

This update is to say that I'm not doing anything until I can get more people coming to this site, more specifically until I get a webcam and can post videos on youtube.com.

Genesis - 9/22/06

The beginning of this site!  Only five songs, but you have to start somewhere.
