BBQ AT GLEN'S PLACE
What a lovely day!!   We rocked up in our party clothes (those who read the newsletter did!) and enjoyed a yummy Morning Tea, a swim in the pool, some serious business, and then some more yummy food cooked supurbly on the BBQ, followed by mouth watering deserts.   No need for dinner that night!!   I forgot to mention the good company.   Glen and Helen threw us out at last, (nobody was very anxious to leave), and we thank them sincerely for hosting our last gathering of the year.

Our Xmas Bowl Appeal -  Will go to the Downs Syndrome Association.   Members donations will be made up to $100.00 with Guild funds.

STOP PRESS
I have received 2 CPR123 KITS (personal learning programme to update your CPR skills) plus extra face shields.  Some members at our July meeting at Mapleton were interested in purchasing these. The cost is $46.20 for the kit plus $10.00 for 12 extra face shields.  Please advise ASAP if you require one before Xmas.

Nambour Museum -   It was decided to change the Uniform model to the current uniform.  Val has supplied a shirt, a pair of shorts will be sourced from the Op Shop, and a maroon scarf, navy belt, and navy cap will be purchased from the Scout Shop.  Neville is also planning a new exhibit and the Museum has kindly offered to donate the perspect needed.

Don't forget, the Guiding Display finishes this month - Museum days are Wed and Sat. 1-4.

Cleaning Roster  -   December - Fay, January - Glen, February - Sonia.

Bribie Island Girl Guides  -  Upon receiving a request for a donation to upgrade their Guide Hut, it was decided to send $200.00 to assist their efforts.  I was very impressed with their plans when I discussed them with a Bribie Island Committee member at the recent Guide Day at the Nambour Museum.
What a good way to celebrate their special year!!

2010 Country Meeting  -  Will be held on 20 March at the Wellington Point Guide Hut and hosted by Redlands BP Guild. (more details in the new year)

Pacific Cruise - 6 to 22nd September on Superliner Pacific Jewell organised by Moonga Guild- visiting Norfolk Island, Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, etc.  63 Tour members so far, but all the more the merrier. Contact Brett Green on 5482 7855 if interested.

MEMBERS NEWS  -  Eleanor sent a Birthday Card to Morris in England and was pleased to receive a phone call in return. Peg and Morris are both well and send their greetings.

Sonia's Jim is still in hospital.  Their son visited recently from Melbourne which cheered Jim up, I am sure.  Our best wishes for a successful recovery.

Bill Rumph contacted me to advise that they had been in a car crash and Lorraine was in Redcliffe hospital with broken ribs.  Bill was also badly bruised.  They have not had a good run this year with illness, so let us hope that their luck turns around for 2010..

International Fellowship Day
was celebrated on Friday 30 October, at Roma Street Parklands.  Six of our members were in attendance and enjoyed a great day with other Guild and Trefoil members.  After a welcome by State Guildmaster John Laverty and Trefoil’s Pat Kingsford, we were sent on a mystery tour of the Spectacle Gardens, and then we settled down to a BYO picnic lunch and a chat – a very long chat.  It was lovely to catch up with so many other Guild members, many of whom also attend the annual Guild Getaway Camp, and also to meet new members.  Thanks to John and Pat for arranging the day.

By the way, congratulations to the incoming State Executive, and thanks for all your efforts to the outgoing Office Bearers.   We do appreciate the time expended by those involved.

NAMBOUR MUSEUM CELEBRATES 100 YEARS OF GIRL GUIDES
The Guide display is still in the main Exhibition Room but will be replaced early next year by a “Riding for the Disabled” display.  So if you haven't viewed this yet please make the effort to visit the Museum either Wednesday or Saturday afternoons 1.00 to 4.00pm. And encourage all your Guiding friends to come along too.  (The museum will open for Group Visits)

Cleaning Roster -  November-Sonia, December- Fay, January- Glen.

Promotions - The boys, Trevor and Neville, were again advertising Scouting, Guiding and Guilding at Kawana Shoppingworld on 15 October.  This week (5 Nov) will be their last day for the year, but they have lined up all their dates for next year.  We can only hope that putting Scouting and Guiding before the general public increases membership in these Associations.  Thanks to Trevor and Neville for all their efforts this year.

Some Scouting news
Dunethin Rock has benefited from two successful Grant Applications - a $7,000 ride-on mower from the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, and $1,080 from the Nambour RSL with which canoe trolleys were purchased.  These trolleys transport canoes from the canoe shed to the Lake and are proving a great success.  Well done Grant lady Marion.

MEMBERS NEWS
Welcome home to the Gang of 4 – Fay, Audrey, Pat, and Eleanor.  I believe you had a fabuluous time in Tasmania.  We look forward to your photos and stories.  As we have not had the chance to catch up with Val and George, please bring your photos too.

Sonia's Jim had a heart attack two weeks ago but thankfully has now improved enough for more treatment on his leg and hip.  Jim is soldiering on and Sonia is right there beside him.  We wish you all the best in the weeks ahead and to Jim, a speedy recovery.

Bill is slowly recovering from his recent illness, and Lorraine is studying how to be a good nurse!!!  Just kidding.  All these little set backs are just sent to try us.  Just think what old age will be like!!

Gympie Celebrations
Five of our members travelled to Gympie to join in the “100 years of Scouting in Gympie” celebrations.   We were not disappointed.   Thirty members of Brisbane Gang Show performed for over an hour on stage and it was great entertainment.   This was followed by a delicious buffet luncheon.
The event was well supported by State and local Scouting personnel, Guild members from Brisbane, and the Mayor and citizens of Gympie.    Well done to Moonga Guild for staging such a successful event.   There will also be a book published on the 100 year history of Gympie Scouting and this will be launched in Feburary 2010.
A "must read" for any old "Gympie" Scouts.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Four of our members will be travelling with Moonga Guild to Tasmania this month for a 10 day tour. I think they will need their warm coats and umbrellas as it was "raining snow" in Hobart today. Nevertheless I am sure they will enjoy the trip and have many tales to relate on their return.
NAMBOUR MUSEUM CELEBRATES 100 YEARS OF GIRL GUIDES
- 12/09/09 -
The Display in the main Exhibition Room was excellent but unfortunately this day was not well supported by local Guiding and the general public.   Four of our members were present and Trevor and Neville erected our Promotion display which we use in the Shopping Centre.   At lunch time Regional Commissioner, Monica Elliott, ceremonily cut the 100 year Anniversary cake and all present joined in singing Guiding campfire songs.
It is to be hoped that this Exhibition will attract more former and present Guiding members in the months to come. The Exhibition will stay in place until Xmas.
If you are passing through Nambour, why not drop in and visit the Display. The Museum is open Wednesdays and Saturdays – 1pm to 4pm.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Cleaning Roster
October - Glen
November - Sonia
December - Fay

Promotions - Trevor and Neville were again at Kawana Shoppingworld on 10 September advertising Scouting, Guiding, and Guilding.   Well done, boys. It must be hard work drinking all that coffee and chatting up the public!!!

MEMBERS NEWS - Lorraine and Bill Rumph did not go travelling as planned.  Instead Bill ended up in hospital having five by-passes.   He is now home and being well nursed by Lorraine.   We wish him a speedy recovery, but he will not be well enough to attend Guild meetings for a while yet.

Sonia’s Jim is still in hospital, and is making slow progress.   We wish him a good recovery also.

Eleanor, Pat, Audrey, and Fay will be travelling to Tasmania with Moonga Guild, and I am sure will have a jolly good time.   Val and George are back from England and no doubt, by now, recovered from the ‘flu and jet lag.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gympie Centenary Badges - We have received the order. Please pay and collect at our Xmas BBQ.
Q.    Why are there only 18 letters in the alphabet?
A.    Because ET went home in a UFO and the CIA went after him.
Visitors 3 - Wildflowers 1
After a week of extreme heat in August, all the wild flowers we came to see at Currimundi Lake had withered, except for some large masses of white shrubs and wattles which were beautiful.  On the walk around the Lake we enjoyed the peace of the bush and the song of the many small birds feeding on the low heath.  In the background was the serenity of the Lake with the crashing of the surf in the distance.  This Conservation Park is an oasis amid the very busy Sunshine Coast and worth a visit in any season
Now to the three visitors - Pam from New Zealand Trefoil joined us for the morning.  Pam is on a long holiday which she enjoys every year and has promised to return next year.  Isbel from Canada emailed us from the Website and particularly remembered Pat Dryden from a conference held in Canada some time ago.  Isbel filled us in on what her Guild does in Canada.  They are a Scout Leaders Guild, and it is a natural progression when a Leader does not have a weekly commitment they join the Guild, so most of her Guild is still associated with the Scout Movement.  Jenny Nelson joined us to talk on her recent visit to Malaysia.  Jenny and Col enjoyed the hospitality of local Guilders and experienced the sometimes frustration of “Malaysian time”. Nevertheless they were impressed by the local Scouting and Guiding folk and especially the smartness of their uniforms.  Thank you to our three visitors for a very entertaining morning.
NAMBOUR MUSEUM CELEBRATES 100 YEARS OF GIRL GUIDES
This celebration will be held on Saturday 12 September 2009 10am to 4pm and thereafter at the usual Opening times on Wednesdays and Saturdays 1pm to 4pm.  So if you can’t get to the Opening, try and visit on another day.  Admission of $5.00 includes a “cuppa”.   Wear your Guild Scarf to advertise our Guild. (there is a new car parking area next to the Museum).
We are hopeful that we will be allowed to mount our Guild Promotion on the day, as we promote the local Girl Guides at Kawana Shoppingworld every month.
Granny’s Pantry - Fay, Sonia and Irene attended this event, which was a very interesting display of recipes and hints from days gone by with a delicious afternoon tea afterwards – a celebration of Seniors Week.
Meanwhile Neville placed the last perspect panel on the Wall Unit which features the book “Aids to Scouting” which lead to the writing of “Scouting for Boys”.
Cleaning Roster - September – Fay; October- Glen; November – Sonia.
Promotions - Trevor and Neville continue to promote Scouting, Guiding and Guilding in Kawana Shopping World. They usually have an interesting day with lots of chat and coffee, and fielded inquiries for Caloundra, Kawana and Buderim Scout Groups. The District Commissioner for Beaver Masters has asked them to particularly recruit Leaders in their next promotion on 10 September. Donations were $26.60- every little bit helps towards our funds.
MEMBERS NEWS
We were very sad to hear that our Patron, Elizabeth Daniels, passed away early August. Elizabeth worked very hard for the community in the role of a Councillor for 11 years and was involved in many Organisations on the Coast, and as such, brought many skills to her role as President of the Guild.
In her usual no fuss fashion, there was no funeral, but we were advised that her ashes would be scattered on Saturday 22nd at the park named after her. Six of our members turned up to find that the ceremony had been postponed until the following day.  Four members were able to return to witness the scattering of half of the ashes. (As some relatives were not present, there was to be another ceremony at a later date).  Fay very kindly spoke on behalf of the Guild. Thank You to those who attended on these days.  We will always remember Elizabeth as a great friend of the Guild and remember the tinkle of her little bell as she called us to order – we were sometimes a very unruly bunch!!   Vale Elizabeth Daniels who has gone home.
Sonia’s Jim has had an op to remove his hip and is not responding to treatment as well as was expected this time. Our best wishes for his recovery.
Holidays – Val and George are in England visiting Peg and Maurice. We expect a full report on their return. Glen is to venture south for a holiday later this month.
Magnificent Mapleton
For our July meeting we gathered at Christine Long’s residence at Mapleton. It was a beautiful day with a cool breeze and we were grateful for the warm sunny spot in Chris’s garden for Morning Tea.   Then David Thomas (well qualified in first aid) led us into the Education Centre where we revised our CPR skills and learnt again about some of the illnesses of our age group that require immediate action – strokes, Angina, Heart Attacks- such serious subjects but David has the right touch to make it entertaining and therefore easy to remember the important details.
Next was lunch on the terrace with a view over the mountain range (the breeze had dropped and it was soooo warm in the sun), followed by a general meeting- again in the Education Centre. &   A big thank you to David and Christine for a lovely day.   (Christine is an Education Consultant and Tutor and heads the Mapleton Falls College and David and Christine are both Uniform Leaders attached to Qld Scout Headquarters.)
We again have supported two guests to Scout Agoonoree, and will receive an invitation to a Morning Tea.   Please advise me if you are interested in attending this.
Trevor and Neville continue to promote Scouting, Guiding, and Guilding at Kawana Shoppingworld.   It was pleasing to hear that this promotion has resulted in new members in Kawana Scout Group.    As usual many conversations were held through the day with supporters of the Movements.    Our little donation box is adding to Guild funds.
Thank you to Fay, Glen and Sonia for cleaning the Scout Room at the Nambour Museum.    Sonia is rostered for August, Fay for September, and Glen for October.
A little story    -    “Leaving Home”
Six year old Matthew decided that he’d had enough.  “I’m leaving home!” he told his mother (my cousin, Cathy).   And he knew where he was going: Italy!
“Who’s going to cook your meals, Matthew?” his mother asked.
“I am,” replied Matthew.
“Who’s going to wash your clothes?” Cathy persisted.
“I am,” came the confident reply.
“And who’s going to love you?”
Matthew dropped his bravado, ran and grabbed hold of his mother and hid his crying face in her lap. “I’m not going to Italy!” he declared.
(The next morning, his unsympathetic younger brother – all five years of him – greeted Matthew with “Hmmph! I thought you were going to Italy today.”)
Heritage Day at the “Rock” - We ordered a beautiful day and that is what we got!! 37 members from other Guilds and special visitors gathered at Dunethin Rock Scout Campground for a memorable day – beginning with Morning Tea, then a guided walk along the Heritage Pathway (which represents 100 years of Scouting), a walk up to Dunethin Rock for a view of the surrounding Sunshine Coast, then lunch and a Guest Speaker- Regional Leader Guides Monica Elliott related her recent trip to Antarticia.
Of course Val set up her famous Stall with wonderful items and Trevor had erected our Display which we take to Shopping Centres each month, and both these activities were well patronised. We thank Nambour District Scout Assoc. for the delicious food and use of the campground. And thank you all those special visitors and Guild Members for spending the day with us. A big BRAVO to the State Guild for organising the bus trip.
A special thank you to Glen for organising the day, and Debbie Scott (one of the artists involved in the Pathway) for attending and sharing her expertise.
Members News
   Our Patron, Elizabeth, has been in Nambour Hospital but hopes to be home shortly. Audrey has visited her and she is in good spirits. Thank you Audrey and Eleanor who regularly visit Elizabeth on our behalf.
It was good to see Sonia at our Dunethin Rock Day, and thank you for helping to sell the Raffle tickets which netted $110.00. Fay and Glen donated all the prizes which were well received. I hope Audrey is having fun eating her prize.
Fay’s Geoff is on the mend after a few weeks of illness, and we wish him a speedy recovery.
Once again Val has excelled in convening the Trading Table, and together with contributions from other members, the proceeds from the day was $167.00. Well done everyone. Some of us are not gifted and just do the buying.
The boys put up the display at Kawana Shoppingworld on 11 June and although the day was fairly quiet, found enough people to chat to. We collected a small sum in donations which all adds to our finances.
Fay cleaned the Scout Room in the Nambour Museum this month – Glen is rostered for July, and Sonia for August. The Museum people are very appreciative of our efforts. Neville and I will be adding to the display shortly and mounting perspect on the wall unit, which will reduce some of the dusting surfaces. The Guide Display is on track for September and we look forward to their exhibition.
News from England – Peg fractured her knee cap but is mending well. Maurice is well.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Trevor for 3rd July. We hope you enjoy your special day.
Heritage Day at the “Rock” - Against a background of roaring and spectacular surf we gathered in a lovely little picnic area and enjoyed coffee, chat and laughter before getting down to business in a meeting. Over the preceeding days over 12 inches of rain fell at Caloundra alone, and some of our Guild members had been and were still flooded in, at Sandstone Point and Beachmere. So it was only a small group that met and finalised details of coming events. Little did we know that all our local beaches were to change dramatically with this week’s King Tides. The sand that was lost will no doubt be restored by mother nature in the months to come……………..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are all looking forward to hosting the State Guild Visit to Dunethin Rock on Wednesday 17 June – all 39 of you who will be in the bus and other visitors as well.

The campground is a picture with all rainwater tanks overflowing. You can be sure of a very warm welcome. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a hat (we hope to have one of those beautiful Sunshine Coast Days)

The day will begin at 10am, or thereabouts, with Morning Tea. For catering purposes, those coming in cars please ring me ASAP on 5492 7337.

Sunshine Guild Annual General Meeting

It is expected that this will be a short meeting to present Reports and formally induct the Executive for 2009-2010. District Commissioner Pam Budge has kindly consented to preside for us. There will also be some special visitors just for lunch and the AGM.

The story of Agnes King.  Agnes King lives in Yandina and some weeks ago phoned our President, Fay Chant, asking for assistance. It seems that Agnes read our recent article in the Sunshine Coast Seniors Newspaper and thought the Guild would be able to help her find information regarding a Scout Award her father received in Scotland in 1915.

This seemed an impossible task, but through a former member of Qld Scouts Heritage, we secured the address of the Scout Archives at Gilwell Park in England. Agnes wrote to them and received a prompt reply and photocopies of documents relating to the Award and even a copy of a photograph. “Sea Scout Robt McRory of 1st Dunbarton Troop saved a man from drowning on 22 April 1915, and so was awarded a (Gilt) Medal of Merit on 28 June 1915.” Agnes was so pleased to know the details that she came to the Open Day at Nambour Museum where we were manning the Scout Room, to thank us personally. We were pleased of course to be able to assist her, so you never know where that newspaper article will lead!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Annual Membership Fees   for Baden Powell Guild members is $25.00. These will be collected at the AGM, or if unable to attend, please post a cheque.
Open Day at Nambour Museum – Neville and I were assisted by Fay and Sonia. This is always a lovely day with many Scouting yarns being told in our Scout Room. Some adjustments will be made to our display with funds coming from the Nambour Museum Committee.
The boys again spent a day at the Shopping Centre - They always have plenty of stories about people who they meet who stop to look at the Display. Thanks Trevor and Neville. (They are good patrons of Donut King too)
Members News - Sonia’s Jim is home from hospital and we hope he is feeling better soon.
It was lovely to enjoy Eleanor and Pat’s company again after their three busy months away.
Glen and Helen are overseas and no doubt enjoying all the sights.
We hope Lorraine and Bill did not have too much to clean up after they were marooned in their home by floodwaters.
We extend our best wishes to Elizabeth our Patron.   Eleanor and Audrey are taking it in turns to visit Elizabeth who is always welcoming and keen to catch up with the Guild.
Pat’s new E-mail address is;   pat.cliff@aanet.com.au
Notice to those crafty members  - we will be setting up a stall at Dunethin Rock on 17th June. Val convening – all contributions welcome.
We honour Anzacs.
On Anzac eve members gathered at Shelly Beach, Caloundra, to walk the Anzac Pathway around the headland.   At the lighthouse there were various Naval memorials, the main RSL memorial was next, and then the Centeur Memorial.   The Pathway is edged with plaques of individual Servicemen who fought in all Wars, and the Rank, theatre of War, and Branch of Service make very interesting and sad reading, especially when so many members of the same family were involved.
We honour them all.   If you have not visited this part of the coastline you have missed out on something very special.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On a more light hearted note, those who attended Guild Getaway at Crows Nest had a wonderful weekend.   The fellowship was great, activities fun and interesting, Dinner on the Saturday night at the Camp Restaurent excellent, Guilds Own well conducted and thoughtfull, and we even have a great new card game to teach everyone.   Altogether a weekend of good memories and friendship. Bring on 2010. We will be there!!!
Great gathering at Gympie.
Nine of our members attended the State Country Meeting at Gympie on 28 March, and were warmly welcomed by Moonga Guild (Gympie) to the Gold Mining Museum. The Gathering included members from Allawah, Karawa, Stephens, Southern Cross, Valley, Samford, Sunshine, and Moonga Guilds, and not forgetting of course, the State Guild Executive who are drawn from the previous mentioned Guilds. First item on the Agenda was a delicious Morning Tea, very much appreciated by all the travellers. The business of the day was highlighted by first hand reports from all Guilds present. Then followed an appetising lunch and a tour of the Scouting Hall of Memories. Mention should be made of this excellent display maintained by Moonga Guild, and especially the mounting of the "Kings Colours". In all, a wonderful day of Fellowship, and we thank the hosts, Moonga Guild.
Founder's Day - Thinking Day.
Nine members and three visitors gathered at Rocky Creek Campground, Landsborough, for Morning Tea followed by our Annual Thanksgiving Service in our dedicated Guild Chapel. Afterwards we planted two trees to add to the many that were planted some years ago and are thriving.
We then adjourned to the "Paroo" shelter for some entertainment in the way of Scout and general knowledge questions with the Quiz Machine and there was great competition amongst those present.
No prizes though, only fun and laughter as we guessed the answers.
After a BYO lunch, members planned the next six months of fellowship.  All hands then helped to "clean up" the shelter to end another successful Guild meeting and outing.
Special thanks;
To our visitors, David and Christine from Scout H.Q. Training Team, and District Commissioner Scouts - Nambour - Pam, for attending. Also to Glen, for preparing the Service, Trevor and Fay for assisting on the day, and to Sonia, who chose and obtained the trees.Sonia also added a name to our Honour Board which has been rehung in the Paroo Shelter.
Rocky Creek campsite is a picture at the moment.  We have had some good rain on the coast and all is green. If you are thinking of a venue for your next activity, Rocky Creek is worth considering.  It is situated at Landsborough, just before you climb the range to Maleny.
Guild Promotion;
Trevor and Neville manned the display in the Kawana Shoppingworld Centre on 12 February.  There were some enquiries but more people were just looking at the display.  It is surprising how many people used to be in the Scout and Guide Movements and have fond memories of their time there.  However this is not translating into Guild membership and it seems that it will only be personal invitations to join us that will advance our membership.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Guild Getaway - Please book your site/cabin by contacting Crows Nest Caravan Park on 4698 1269. Dinner on the Saturday evening is $17.50.
Please advise Brenda Cull on 3841 2896 or Jenny Nelson on 3390 4459 if attending.

Merry Xmas at Morayfield - Eleven members and two visitors celebrated the end of the year at Morayfield Tavern. It was time to come down the coast to visit our members, Lorraine and Bill, who live at Beachmere, and on their recommendation we gathered at Morayfield Tavern for a delicious lunch which was enjoyed by all.Thank you Lorraine and Bill for arranging the day.

For our Xmas Bowl this year, we accepted a recommendation by the State Guildmaster and have donated $100 to the State Guild Storm Appeal which will assist Guild members affected by the recent storms. Thank you to all members for contributing.

Another event of note was The Presentation of the Kings Colours. This was held on 22 November in Gympie and involved sponsorship by individuals to finance the remaking of the Kings Colours Banner. The Governor of Queensland, Ms Penelope Wensley re-created the Ceremony held in 1912 by presenting the Colours to Scouts Queensland Chief Commissioner, Mr. Maurice Law, who in turn presented the Colours to Gympie Scouting to be preserved in the Scouting Hall of Memories in Gympie.
Congratulations to Moona (Gympie) Guild on a highly successful event.All who attended were impressed by the organisation and no doubt this day will be remember in Gympie for some time. It was good to see so many Guild members there who had travelled from Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

Members News - Elizabeth has been transferred from Coolum Waters to Allora Nursing Home at Maroochydore. Thanks, Audrey, for keeping us up to date on this. Val and George are enjoying another holiday!! Its nice to see that Bill is on the road to recovery from his very sore thumb.Fay is currently enjoying a holiday at Tin Can Bay.

Nambour Museum - For those passing the museum on a Wednesday or Saturday afternoon, please call in and check the Scout Room. Our first meeting for 2009 will be on Friday 30 January at a mystery location. You will be advised early in the new year.

Until then, May you all have a happy and holy Christmas.And I will leave you with a little story ----

Gold Wrapping Paper

The story goes that some time ago a mother punished her five year old daughter for wasting a roll of expensive gold wrapping paper. Money was tight and she became even more upset when the child used the gold paper to decorate a box to put under the Christmas tree.

Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift box to her mother the next morning and then said, This is for you, Mummy.
The mother was embarrassed by her earlier over reaction, but her anger flared again when she opened the box and found it was empty. She spoke to her daughter in a harsh manner. Dont you know, young lady, when you give someone a present theres supposed to be something inside the package?

The little girl had tears in her eyes and said, Oh, Mummy, its not empty! I blew kisses into it until it was full. The mother was crushed. She fell on her knees and put her arms around her little girl, and she begged her forgiveness for her thoughtless anger.

An accident took the life of the child only a short time later, and it is told that the mother kept that gold box by her bed for all the years of her life. Whenever she was discouraged or faced difficult problems, she would open the box and take out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there.

In a very real sense, each of us, as human beings, have been given a Golden box filled with unconditional love and kisses from our children, family, friends, and GOD. There is no more precious possession anyone could hold.

GONE WITH THE WIND
Yes, just like the saga, we were blown away at our meeting at Picnic Point, Maroochydore.George assumed the role of paper weight during the business part, and the wind was so cold, we all elected to sit in the sun to hear tales from our travellers during lunch.Congratulations to the local Council for upgrading this park with new amenities and picnic areas.Next time we might bring our fishing rods.Even the fish would be happy to eat here.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
During last week we received one happy phone call from Peg and Maurice Foot who were absolutely thrilled for Maurice to receive his Baden-Powell Star Award at the Guild International Fellowship Day in Ringwood, England.Peg and Maurice have now settled into their new home, and the address is Oakmount Rest Home, Narrow Lane, Poulner, Ringwood, Hampshire, CH243EN for those who wish to send their best wishes.Both are well and being cared for very well by their family. AUGUST AT DUNETHIN ROCK - Members met to view the new Heritage Pathway and enjoyed a power point presentation by Marion and Bill Haselden who were instrumental in the planning of the project. This was followed by a walk and explanation of the mosaics (milestones of Scouting). Congratulations to all who were involved.

SEPTEMBER IN THE MAROOCHY BUSHLAND BOTANIC GARDENS The gardens are lovely at this time of year, and were enjoyed by all present.

The overseas travellers return after a marathon 76 day cruise, we were happy to be back in Oz. We visited 28 ports which gave us just a taste of many countries, enjoyed the ship, The Sun Princess, enjoyed the company and the food, and especially being waited upon.
What a shock to have to make our own bed, and we miss the chocolates on the pillows. After two weeks, cant believe we ever went. But if you visit us, you may have to view some of the DVDs we brought back of the whole voyage.

Thank you to Pat who stepped in to do the Secretarys job while I was away.

Our former member, MAURICE FOOT, has received an Australian Guild Award. This will be presented to Maurice in England at a Guild International Fellowship Day Service in Ringwood, where Maurice and Peg now live.
Maurice had given many years of Guild Service and Sunshine Branch nominated him for this Award. We are pleased and proud that this has come about, and look forward to a first hand report and even some pictures of the event.

Centenary of Scouting and Guiding Lunch hosted by Stephens Sub-Branch was a huge success as reported by our members, Lorraine and Bill. Well done Stephens.

Other Guilds AGMs Val and George once again represented us at Peninsular, Allawah, and Valley AGMs, and were joined by Glen at the State AGM. Glen is now our official delegate at State, and attends the bi-monthly meetings.

We thank all these members for ably representing our Guild in the wider Guild family.

Picnic in the Park as hosted by Qld Scouts Heritage was held at Samford this year. Thanks to Guild members it was a reasonable success. There will be another day next August, again at Samford. Perhaps we can put it on our calendar. The Park was looking particularly beautiful last weekend as we attended a camp there.

International Fellowship Day will be held on Saturday 25 October at the new Guide Museum Bowden Park, Geebung (entrance via Akaroa St) 10am to 2pm. BYO lunch, chair, cup (morning tea, hot water, tea, coffe, etc provided).

Guild Getaway 1-4 May 2009 Yarraman Caravan Park. Always a good weekend, and from here you can visit the South Burnett on day outings. (Sect. has more information)

State Country Meeting 2009 will be held in Gympie on 28 March. (details to be advised)

MEMBERS NEWS - Our best wishes go to Val as she undergoes an operation, and to Bill as he struggles with his injury. Eleanor is nursing a crook knee and has sent Pat on holiday with Gympie Guild to Western Australia. Fay is enjoying a holiday in Sydney.

In the middle of our cruise we welcomed a Granddaughter, Sophia Christina, and she is a bundle of joy. By the time we got back she was smiling and ready for lots of cuddles.

NEXT MEETING will be on Friday 24 October at Picnic Point, Maroochydore 10am to 10.30am Morning tea to share, BYO lunch. - Apologies to Secretary.

(We are not meeting at Bribie Island as Bill and Lorraine cannot attend, and Val will be recovering after her operation)

Please bring your ideas and costings along for our XMAS luncheon, as we celebrate the end of the Australian Scouting Centenary year, and welcome the 100years of the Girl Guide Movement.

HIDDEN DELIGHT
We gathered at a great little spot good shelter and BBQ just behind the sand dunes at Yaroomba (opposite Coolum Hyatt) with a board walk to the beach where the surf was breaking evenly a magnificent morning. Sadly this was our farewell to our two oldest members, Peg and Maurice Foot, who are returning to England to live. So this time was very special as we caught up with each other over Morning Tea and a BBQ lunch, all catered for by Eleanor and Pat. To commemorate the occasion photos were taken, which we hope will be a nice reminder to Peg and Maurice of their friends in the Guild.

However we found time to finalise the details of our AGM and plan future meetings. All thanked Eleanor and Pat for the delicious food, as we left this little special picnic spot.

**Nambour Museum Open Day 17th May - A special day with the unveiling of the Eudlo a cane train recalling the importance of sugar cane to the District. Neville and I manned the Scout Room where we always have interesting conversations with people who were scouts. Fay and Geoff organised glass shelves in our Wall Unit which gives us more display room. And we mounted two new displays one of the Guild Scarf, and the other one a Guild Shirt (for overseas travel).

SOMETHING TO PONDER - How to grow a Scout Leader

First plant seven rows of Ps: Promptness, perseverance, preparation, participation, presence, purity, and performance.

Next, plant three rows of squash: squash unfairness, squash criticism, squash indifference.

Then plant seven rows of lettuce.
1. Let us delegate responsibility.
2. Let us give assistance whenever necessary.
3. Let us recognise the importance of pooling ideas and encourage full and free ideas, and encourage full and free discussion before decisions are made.
4. Let us appreciate and respect the attitudes of other people.
5. Let us encourage cooperation.
6. Let us arrive in advance of scheduled meetings, with all materials needed.
7. Let us be prepared.

No garden is complete without turnips: .. Turn up for meetings; Turn up with enthusiasm; Turn up with new ideas; Turn up with a smile;

The harvest is one terrific Scout Leader

WIND AND WATER ON PUMICESTONE PASSAGE
Our boat trip on the Passage was in turn, calm and choppy, fine with showers. The Captain taught us about the waterways as we chugged merrily along. Afterwards we gathered on the foreshore for a BBQ lunch and braved the wind and the rain. Its amazing how many people you can fit under a BBQ shelter!! There was much laughter in battling the adverse conditions, and everyone voted the day a winner.

State Guild Country Meeting Four of us attended and enjoyed a spirited meeting and a lovely lunch. It is always interesting to learn about other Guilds activities through their reports. Thanks to Southern Cross Guild for hosting the day.

Guild Getaway Neville and I attended this wonderful weekend in Toowoomba. We talked, laughed, shared meals, morning and afternoon teas, visited gardens and markets, worshiped together at a Guilds Own, dined at the City Golf Club, and renewed old friendships. Toowoomba Guild joined 40 of us in camp (motel rooms, cabins, caravans, and motor home) for the Dinner. It was truly food, fun, and fellowship. Bring on next year!

HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY

We celebrated in fine style on Sonias Back patio in Nambour with everybody bringing a little Bit of Australia along to share, and what a variety of items there were - from poems to recipes to souvineers and travel maps.
Of course our Australian Morning Tea featured damper, lamingtons, scones, and even Bert Hinkler Cake. After a short meeting, long chat and BYO lunch, we finished off those tasty dampers, thanked Sonia and Jim for hosting the day, and left their peaceful surroundings.

Afterwards we met at Nambour Museum and dismantled our display in the main exhibition room. We still retain our original Scout Room, and another small room featuring 100 years of Scouting will be dismantled after Easter. Thanks to all who worked hard on this display.

=======================================================================

We received a letter from the Secretary of Nambour Museum, Barbara Want.

"I would like to express our Museum Members sincere appreciation for mounting the terrific Scout Display in the Nambour and District Museum.

Unfortunately, wet weather upset the opening day, but we have had a number of visitors since who have commented favourably about the display. It was amazing to hear so many people pointing to photos of their old Scouting mates and Scout Masters etc. It also evoked lots of happy memories for those ex Scouts from other areas.

We hope the members of the Guild will continue this association."

Our 2007 Xmas Lunch was enjoyed by all and through our Xmas Bowl, a donation of $100 will be forwarded to the Down Syndrome Association of Queensland.
