The Woman Within

Umah has an interesting personality in my opinion. She's loyal, diciplined, and dutiful. Vorador can count on Umah to get any job done, no matter what happens. I believe that he counts on Umah to fulfill the hardest tasks, and seems to favor her the most when she comes back with her missions completed. This not only shows how she's devoted to her duties, but also that she is talented. I can see why Vorador adores her so. Out of all his brides, he's mostly concerned for her safety, because she stands out. She isn't the type of vampire who will just play the part of Vorador's little sex slave. I'm not saying that Umah and Vorador had never actually "did it", there's a chance that they probably did. Her outfit and her gender, not to mention her boss, would be enough evidence to prove that. What I'm trying to say is that it isn't her sole purpose like the other brides of Vorador. Umah is a warrior and a spy for the Cabal. She fights, battles, and manages to come back alive. This is probably the main reason why she not only plays an important part in the Cabal, but also is presented as a favorite lieutenant to Vorador.

But it isn't just her strength, loyalty and diversity that makes Umah an interesting character. She is a smart woman, which annoys me when people call her brainless. She knows when to trust, and when not to. When she was held captive for the Sarafan Lord, Kain was questioning her about the information she had obtained. Umah knew that there would be a chance that Kain would turn around and leave her if she had told him. She was still trapped, and Kain was free to go as he pleased. She waited until she was freed and back at Sanctuary until she told him what she had found. She shows more knowledge when Kain was ready to rush off and kill the Sarafan Lord. If she hadn't had restrained him, he would have died. Unlike Kain, Umah knows when to flee, and when to stay and fight. She also knows when an enemy is too strong for her. Along with those senses, she recognizes the areas around her, such as the Wards, and has a great sense of direction. She knows the passageways and paths that lead to any area in Meridian, and she knows the buildings where people can assist Kain. This is a wonderful source of knowledge.

However, I am not without doubt that once Umah's life is in danger, she panics. This is probably due to her being the favorite of the Cabal and being so used to victory, which isn't uncommon. When Umah is outnumbered in the Industrial Quarter, she knew that she could not defeat the Sarafan, who easily brought down two vampires (Umah and the weakened vampire who reported her capture). At that time, Umah was lucky. She merely got away with a few minor wounds and some exhaustion. And due to her tiring condition and most likely the thought of defeat allowed her to be taken prisoner. In the Wards, she again was confident in her abilities when she took the Nexus Stone.

Now, before anybody says anything, I will get this out as clear as I can. Umah stole the Nexus Stone, and she DID betray Kain. But why do you think she did that? We know that Umah is loyal to Vorador, we know that she is a key member to the vampire resistance. She wants the Sarafan Lord to fall probably more then anyone in the Cabal. So why else would she steal the Nexus Stone other then to help the vampires? You the players heard her say herself that she wanted Nosgoth to belong to the vampires. Plus, again, there was the fear of defeat. Umah had a feeling that Kain was going to turn on the vampires. She saw how the Sarafan Lord wanted control over Nosgoth, and there was a similarity on how much Kain longed for Nosgoth to be his. And if that were to happen, in her eyes, he would become another Sarafan Lord and bring forth the end of the vampires who stand between him and complete rule over Nosgoth. She took the stone because she wanted to save her people, because she still cared for them, and she didn't want them to suffer anymore by the hands of humans, Hyldens, demons, or even other vampires. She betrayed Kain, but she did it for a good cause.

But again, Umah was ambushed. This time, she didn't get away with a minor wound and exhaustion. She was scarred, beaten, and bleeding from head to toe. She managed to kill off every warrior except for one, which Kain had slayed for her. At first, she was talking about her failure... she knew she was defeated, and that her pride had died. But she still longed for life and the freedom of the resistance, which is why she begged Kain for blood. She didn't do it for her own selfish reasons because their was nothing left to be selfish. Her pride was destroyed and she was humiliated again with defeat, and all that mattered was the salvation of the vampires. Sadly, Kain didn't grant her that wish. He took the Nexus Stone and killed her.

It's very sad in my opinion, how Umah's life ended. She seemed so disappointed with herself for her defeat. But needless to say, she did have a great personality and was a wonderful character.
