The Reunion Committee is pleased to announce the rescheduled date for our Class of 1968 40th Reunion as Saturday, May 16, 2009. We have secured the Garten Verein venue as originally planned for September 27 and we are looking forward to all the activities and fun as planned...just a bit later than we had anticipated before Hurricane Ike's arrival.
This date was the only suitable one available (due to a fortunate cancellation) at the Garten Verein for many months, as they have had to compress their latter 2008 events plus the previously scheduled 2009 events into a shortened schedule. The venue itself was not damaged to any extent during the hurricane, we've been told.
The Committee understands that, with any change of dates such as this, there will be some classmates who previously committed to come who will not be able to attend due to circumstances on the new date. Others who were unable to plan for the September 27 date may now have the opportunity to join us on May 16, 2009.
At this time, due to the contractual commitments made and the funds already expended or still owed, we do not have plans in place to refund ticket purchases. Our sincere wish is that everyone who purchased a ticket will enthusiastically support our plan to hold our 40th reunion on May 16, 2009 and will make their best effort to schedule time well in advance for that date.
The good news is, preparations for the event are already almost completely finished and we can spend most of the time between now and May on reaching more alumni, hopefully allowing even more of our classmates to attend than would have been possible in September.
We are in the process of setting up the hotel room blocks as before and will post more info when that is available. In the meantime, please go to your calendar (or make a note to go when the 2009 version is up) and mark May 16 as taken. We will still plan on an informal get-together on the Friday before, but by all means, don't wait to put down our new date as a 'must'.
