Welcome to Spy vs Spyware.

Thanks for coming to my site.  I am a PC Consultant for a large company doing 3rd level support.  Recently there has been a rash of Spyware and Virus related problems at work that I have had to fix.  Inevitably, the people that I helped at work asked me what they could do at home to fix their popup problems.  I was asked so often that I decided to write this website for them as a resource and realized that it would be beneficial for other users like yourself.  Everything on this site is free and has been used by myself in some capacity.  If you happen to find a broken link or something that is not free or if you know of something I should add or remove, contact me and let me know.  I am willing to try to fix your issues but am not nearly as experienced nor as fast as the sites in the Helpful Forums section so I would suggest starting there.  Most of those sites have dedicated people monitoring the forums and helping 24/7.

Disclaimer:  This site is new, and I am constantly tweaking it so do not be surprised if it looks completely different the next time you come back.  Don't worry, the content will still be the same.  As for the content, all I have on this site are links to other sites or to the source content.  There are no files stored here and, though I have not had any problems with any of these programs, I take no responsibility for what the files do to your machine.

Latest News:

January Updates:

BIG NEWS in the fight against Spyware and Adware.  Microsoft has made (actually acquired from GIANT AntiSpyware) an anti spyware program and it is in its beta testing stages.  If you would like to download a copy of Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (BETA), click the link.  As a disclaimer, I personally have not tried this yet, though I will shortly.

This month I also have for you a utility I needed to use at work that fixes the "Windows socket initialization failed" error that you can get after removing a variety of spyware programs.  It is called WinSockXPFix.exe and works for both Windows XP and Windows 2000.  It can be found here.

December Updates:

*********HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!*********

Not much on the update front.  InterMute updated their CWShredder again to version 2.1 so you can link to it here.

November Updates:

Added Links to new Ad-aware SE, CWshredder 2, and IE-Spyad 2 here.

I recently saw an interesting article in the December issue of PCWorld magazine about free vs fee spyware detection and removal tools.  For comparison sake, the article uses Spybot Search & Destroy 1.3 as its free program against a handful of paid for spyware solutions with interesting results. Read it here.

September Updates:

August Updates:

Here's an interesting little tool to check exactly how vulnerable your browser is to a number of common exploits: Jason Levine's Browser Security Tests.

Added SpywareGuard 2.2 to the Spyware Tools page.

Many Critical Updates on Windows Update.

Windows Update

First of all, one of the best ways to help prevent Virii and Spyware from invading your machine is to keep yourself updated.  If you have not done so lately, make your way over to Microsoft's Windows Update page and get all of the critical patches you can.
