A humble offering for Remembrance Sunday, for all our servicemen and women, past and present. It is my view that, whatever your political stance is, these young men and women are deserving of our support, praise, encouragement, thanks and good wishes regardless. If you must deride the 'cause,' whichever one it might be, of the conflict, then aim your grieviances at the powers and politicians who to such a great extent command the fates and futures of our armed forces personnel. After all, 'our boys and girls' are under more than enough flack already.
For this Sunday then, with respect:
One Colour – In Remembrance.
Even in these jaded, jealous days
Over these clouded, grey horizons;
They wait still, beneath greening tendrils,
Bowing yet to the breeze in salutation
Despite the muddied, earthy eulogies,
Well intentioned; growing pale in the light;
Shaded brown and miserable in text-books,
Dying forever in slow, sepia moments
But one colour stands up to long service;
Eclipses all the washed-out hues,
The watery pastels and paints,
Spilled, not mixed, upon the canvas
One brave colour carpets fields; blossoms
On still-beating breasts, here at home
Like blood-blooms from the entry of bullets
Or the weighty recognition, enduring always
That they should have been here longer,
Waving back, wild and windblown as the flowers;
Cherished and borne proudly and with honour
Like the Poppies; but they are all that remain.

Welcome to Romany's Ramblings!
Just a little ditty which is slightly Halloweeny! An attempt at an Englyn, a formal poetry style which I don't normally adhere to, atlhough I do have the odd bash at formality from time to time. I had a go at the internal rhyme scheme too; wonder if it works for you?

The Web.
The web, its wondrous weft and weave – the work!
World within, I believe
Wrapped and trapped flies heave
Without hope and will not leave.

Halloween looms ever nearer, closley followed by Bonfire Night. I prefer to get these seasonal celebrations over with before I consider Christmas, so don't worry about being accosted by Santa or snowballs on this site for a good few weeks yet (although there may be a witch or two lurking!)
I will update my work periodically, and also showcase some of my personal favourites by other writers on the 'Showcase' pages. My thanks to all those who were kind enough to let me post their work here. All other work,except that named and identified on the Showcase pages, is Copyright of Susan Oldham.
Work on the Showcase pages is Copyright of the individual, specified author.
You must obtain permission from the author/s before using any of the work posted here for publication in any form elsewhere. Thank you.
