Care of the flute

All of our flutes are covered with a hardening oil and do not require much care. If you wish to enhance the shine periodically, all that is needed is a coat of any edible oil (sesame, olive ect.) or any oil that tastes good to you. Don't leave your flute exposed to excessive sunlight such as on the dashboard of your car.
Occasionally, moisture will build up on the inside of the flute. In this instance, simply place your finger close to the fipple hole and blow through the mouthpiece. A bead of moisture should appear.
If you find this method unappealing, just lay the flute down for awhile and the moisture will evaporate.

How To Play

All of the notes our flutes play are in harmony with each other. You can play them in any order. There are no complicated fingering patterns to learn. All you have to remember is to not skip holes between closed holes. When you close a hole, simply make sure that any holes above it are also closed and any below it are open.  It is that simple!  Without covering any holes blow gently into the flute. This is the first note that the flute plays. Using the pad of your index finger, not the tip, cover the top hole and blow gently. This is the second note the flute plays. If the sound is not pleasing, you don't have the hole covered completely. Move your finger slightly and try again. Keeping the first hole covered, cover the second hole.  Again, if you don't have a pleasant sound you don't have a hole covered completely. Check both holes. Covering the holes completely is the only difficult part to playing the flute and takes a little practice. Use your other hand and cover the third hole making sure that all the holes above it are also closed. Continue covering each hole until all five holes are covered.  We call this going down the scale. If you don't have a pleasant sound one of the holes is not covered completely. As you blow, uncover one hole at a time from the bottom. As soon as you lift a finger and get a good sound, the finger you just lifted is the one not completely covering that hole. Play the scale from the top to the bottom until you hear six pleasing notes. Practice the scales down and up. The more you do this the better you'll become. Soon, you'll think less about the holes and more about your own music. Good luck and enjoy making your own special songs.
