At 31st of March 2009 and again on 20th of February 2012
AOL closed the old Message Boards.
Effective February 20, 2012 the AOL Message Boards will transition to AOL Answers.

It should be noted for now it seems you can only ask a question and get an answer in one location for very limited general categories and no specific topic within that category. Once a question is asked and if in hundreds listed you would need to know what the original question was to find any posted answers within a very long list of general items.
One option to find questions you may have replied to and see if other comments were added, is to click your signed-up name seen in any reply. Also you can look to right side on AOL Answers page for the 'Activity Summary' which will allow you to see what you have been doing or click on the
'My Activity' which will bring up a list of items you answered.
AOL account holders if logged in seem to be able to post answers.
If you cannot post a question or answer you will need to sign up to AOL Answers.

The main difference between free and paid, apart

No advertising banners are seen on paid services, unless you have set up something.
The storage allowance can be more on paid, but some free is really good.
Allowed file types have to be checked for use with free services.
Adult content is often denied on free storage sites.
Some free storage hosts have a blocked words list.
If a word or combination of words is used within a web page or it's source code,
then the web page may open, but shows a number to top left of page.
The number indicates the banned group the wording fell into.
You need to contact the host service for information.
