The bridge span was built in about 3 months although the pre-engineering process was a little challenging. No one really thought we could accomplish that much work in so little time, but the German subsidiary really came through for us. I think they put in a lot of overtime.

When the Japanese partner deilvered their materials, the whole project leaped ahead of schedule by about two months. We actually had a party to celebrate the bonus we expected to earn.

Somewhere in the lineup a few elements were lost. It may be that the design specs were flawed from the beginning, but we could not pinpoint any errors. All the calculations seemed to make sense. But when we had assembled the entire kit, we found a three inch error that invalidated all of our tolerance calculations.

After debating what to do for three days, the team broke up for lunch. I decided to go get some tacos, and that was when the idea occurred to me that we could layer the materials. It would actually strengthen the entire structure while reshaping the body to the original specification. Our initial testing indicated a 15% improvement in stress tolerance. It was amazing.

The vice president stated he wanted to redo the entire project from start. The whole team nearly fell over. We petitioned the board of directors for permission to go forward and they voted in our favor 5 to 4. The VP never forgave us for going around him and I believe that is what led to his resignation. He felt he had lost all credibility with the team.

We can all say we have an opinion on Dave Pasternack but does it really matter if we know who Dave Pasternack really is?
