Who We Are

Established in 2000, originally as a bird Rescue/LifeCare Sanctuary for the care of birds deemed unadoptable due to severe behavior problems caused by abuse, neglect, abandonment and continual readoptions.

After being contacted by numerous individuals and organizations regarding other animals in like situations, we expanded our cause to include any animal in need of permanent LifeCare.

We have found that sometimes adoption is NOT the answer and can perpetuate a problem and even make it worse.

Many animals are adopted out repeatedly again and again, it is the animal who ultimately suffers. Our goal and mission is to provide these animals a safe and secure environment where they can learn positive behavior, learn to re - establish trust and not fear ever being abandoned again.

We believe all creatures deserve to live in a home where they are loved, shown affection and are rewarded and respected. We believe stable homes are a necessity for animals such as these.

We provide these animals with the assurance that they will never be abandoned, will be cared for for the rest of their lives and loved never to be abandoned or moved again. They are given love, nourishing food, medical attention, vaccinations and above all RESPECT.

We are located in Smithville, Texas on 5 acres next to the Colorado river. We provide exercise, training and behavior modification and work diligently to enrich these animals lives with lots of love.

We are a small rescue and do not recieve fundinglike larger organizations and those which do adoptions. We are very dependant upon support from those who believe in our vision. Currently we care for 98 animals. We house 58 cats and 28 dogs as well as 12 various large birds (Mostly Parrots).

Many feel that a small donation of $1 is but a drop in the bucket, I assure you it is not. $3 will feed 1 bird for an entire week! $10 will feed 10 dogs at Spacious Skies for one day! $40 will feed all 58 cats at Spacious Skies for 1 and entire week! Please lend your support!!

You can make a differnce, small efforts yeild LARGE results in the lives of these animals.

If you would like to make a donation we graciously thank you and welcome your support. We are always in need of food/supplies/litter. Cat food wet/dry and small and large bite dry dog food, Parrot seedmix as well as Parakeet. Toys and treats ect. No gift is ever too small or unappreciated.

Please remember thtese animals are in permanent LifeCare, WE DO NOT DO ADOPTIONS OR SELL ANIMALS. Most of the animals that we care for became so neurotic and with such problems as self mutilation, biting, aggression etc.. from numerous adoptions and placements that eventually they were deemed unadoptable. We are an Absolute No kill Sanctuary.

A message from Sebastion: Hello, My name is Sebastion. I arrived at Spacious Skies Febuary 2008. A concerned person brought me to Spacious Skies Animal Sanctuary. I was found with a 20 foot long yellow rope attatched to my neck on a busy highway. When I arrived here at Spacious Skies I was badly in need of medical attention and it was thought I would not make it. I came with 2 fractured front legs, 2 bullets in my side and the fur was gone from my right side from being drug by a car. I was a terrible mess and had internal injuries and bloody bowel movements. Today I am doing great as you can see, thank god I was brought to Spacious Skies as now I am okay, except of course I am afraid of strangers and I am afraid of other animals too. I have been provided medical care and a special kennel of my own with a large igloo dog house and I love to be walked and am so happy now. I couldn't walk at all when I arrived. My medical expenses and housing cost almost $4000 . Please open up your hearts and donate what you can so that the other dogs, cats and exotic birds at Spacious Skies can live thier lives a little easier. I get lots of love here , the love is free and abundant but unfortunately the food and vet care is not. We animals at Spacious Skies need more facilities to make more room because unfortunatly there are many more animals out there just like us who need a loving home and we need to build more facilities to help them. Due to our living trust, our entire estate is willed to Spacious Skies Inc. and Childrens Hospital City Of Hope to Provide Perpetual Care for these animals and for the research, care and developement of cures for terminally ill children.
