Mini biography:-

While I was still at school, I studied in English and Art and Design.  Out of school hours I used to DJ at a local youth club.  When I left school I became a graphic artist, working for a small printing company in Cockermouth, Cumbria.  After that I worked in a number of factory jobs (which I hated!) before becoming involved in Hospital Radio in 1982.

Finding that there was little work for an artist where I was living, I had to settle for working at my second love – DJ-ing.  I also became more involved in broadcasting and made several appearances on local BBC radio as a freelance reporter.  Using my connections as a reporter and my interest as an artist, I soon became instrumental in promoting a number of cartoon projects in the U.K.  In 1985 I helped with the promotion of Dogtanian & The Three Muskehounds in 1987 I helped to break Canadian favourites The Raccoons over here and in 1988 it was the turn of Count Duckula.  As an artist, some of my work can be seen in The Plague Dogs (1982), Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988) and an episode of The Raccoons (1989) – although I never got any credit for these things!

In 1985 I began working on The Space Gypsy Adventures, at first pitching them as a cartoon strip.  When the strip failed to sell I used my links in hospital radio to turn the idea into a radio serial.  I had already been working with Dr. Who actor John Leeson on a radio show called Interstellar Requests when I approached him with the idea of turning Space Gypsy into a radio serial.  John readily agreed and the series went on the air for the first time in 1986.  The programme was an instant hit with the young audience of Interstellar Requests - so much so that a second serial was commissioned for 1987.  A comic strip in The West Cumberland Times & Star soon followed as well as a mini version of the series on BBC Radio Cumbria.

One of the main characters in the series, Damien the Fox Cub, has become the figurehead of Damien Enterprises – a charitable Trust Fund which recently became affiliated to The Children’s Cancer Fund.

I left Interstellar Requests in 1991 after a successful 7 year run of the programme.  I went on to present Radio Haven's Golden Oldies Show before moving on to The Breakfast Show on Whitehaven's Select 107 and morning and afternoon slots on Workington's WCRFM.  I am currently back in the seat of Radio Haven's Golden Oldies Show.  You can listen to me there every Monday evening 6pm - 10pm.
