WE REGRET TO ANNOUNCE THAT THE SOUTHWEST GEORGIA CHAPTER OF THE BEREAVED PARENTS ARE NO LONGER MEETING.

Our Credo

We are the parents whose children have died. We are the grandparents who have buried grandchildren. We are the siblings whose brothers and sisters no longer walk with us through life. We come together as Bereaved Parents of the USA to provide a haven where all bereaved families can meet and share our long and arduous grief journey. We attend monthly gatherings whenever we can and for as long as we believe necessary. We share our fears, confusion, anger, guilt, frustrations, emptiness and feelings of hopelessness, so that hope can be found anew. As we accept, support, comfort and encourage each other, we demonstrate to each other that survival is possible. Together we celebrate the lives of our children, share the joys and the triumphs as well as the love that will never fade. Together we learn how little it matters where we live, what our color or our affluence is or what faith we uphold as we confront the tragedies of our children’s deaths. Together, strengthened by the bonds we forge at our gatherings, we offer what we have learned from each other to every more recently bereaved family.

We are the Bereaved Parents of the USA.
We welcome you.

About The Organization

Bereaved Parents of the USA (BP/USA) is a national non-profit self-help group that offers support, understanding, compassion and hope to bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings struggling to rebuild their lives after the death of their children, grandchildren or siblings.

Bereaved Parents of the USA is open to all parents, grandparents and siblings regardless of the age or the circumstances of the death of their children, grandchildren or siblings.

There are no dues or fees to become a member of BP/USA and there are no paid salaries within the organization. All work on both the national and chapter level is done by volunteer bereaved parents with a strong desire to help other families survive the death of their children just as they were helped when their own children died.

BP/USA has chapters around the country that hold monthly meetings. Chapters publish monthly newsletters and maintain lending libraries for their member’s use. A national newsletter is published quarterly. Several helpful brochures have been printed and are available from the main chapter website. To further aid families in their grief work, BP/USA conducts yearly National Gatherings where bereaved families attend workshops, sharing sessions and hear helpful guest speakers on many aspects of grief and reinvesting their life.

If no local chapter of BP/USA exists in your area you can become a Member at Large. Members at Large receive the national newsletter and are encouraged to attend the yearly National Gatherings. Go to our Parent Chapter website for more information. You are invited to contact any member of the BP/USA National Board of Directors or Chapters listed on their site for help or additional information. See information, including meeting place and time, for the Southwest Georgia Chapter below.

We want you to know you are not alone on your grief journey. BP/USA understands and cares about you and knows that we bereaved families truly share an unfortunate common bond, the death of our children.

Southwest Georgia Chapter

We regret to announce that the SOWEGA Chapter of the Bereaved Parents are no longer meeting.

The Southwest Georgia Chapter of Bereaved Parents of the USA was started in April 2005.

Michelle Cooper is the Chapter Leader. Mrs. Cooper lost her son Blaine to an ATV accident on Thanksgiving Day of 2003. In mid 2004, she started attending a local 14 week grief session. In the session, she found that she needed support from others. She needed others that could relate to what her and her family were trying to deal with, the horrific pain and other feelings that no one except another bereaved parent could possibly understand. Michelle also discovered that she could offer support to others. She, along with a few others from the session saw that there was a need for a permanent grief support group in the Southwest Georgia area. After doing some research they started this chapter, in hopes of helping others with their "grief work".
