Komoka Provincial Park

Komoka Provincial Park is an excellent location for to spend a couple of hours out in nature, without travelling far from the city. It is located on Gideon Road, just west of London. The quickest route is to take Commissioners Road West out of London, and turn left onto Gideon Road. The park is just a few km. away on the north side of the road. Pages 11 and 12 of the following .pdf map of Komoka Provincial Park shows the parking lot, and the area the park covers.

The terrain varies from dark, quiet pine stands, to sandy mature forest. At one point the trail follows a cliff along the river, and the view from here is excellent. I haven't had the oppurtunity to cover all of the trails in this park, so if anyone has more feedback, send me a message with your thoughts.

There were a couple of detractors I noticed. One was that people ride horses through here. While horses are beautiful animals, the owners certainly don't "stoop and scoop". (Yes, I do realize that would be incredibly unrealistic.) This was only an annoyance because I took my young children out here, and they are not always mindful of where they walk.

The other was that several of the paths near the trailheads were lined on each side with these bushes bearing white flowers. Each of these bushes were heavily laden with bees. Another thing to keep in mind if you have children, or worse are allergic to beestings. I don't know what type of bushes these were, or if they are always in flower.

All in all, the view from the cliff was excellent, and this is a place I will definitely be going to again.
