"When [William Faulkner] was once asked whether he thought [The Sound and The Fury] was his best, he replied, 'Well, best is the wrong word—that's the one that I love the most.'"

THIS IS NOT A PHOTOGRAPH is a group exhibition of concert and music-related studio photography that has been shot in San Diego and its surrounding areas over the last 36 years. With a broad range of experience levels (from amateurs to hobbyists to freelancers to seasoned professionals), the project was assembled to field a wealth of tastes and perspectives from both local and national photographers who have all snapped photos of musicians here.

Photos are in both black and white and color, and some have even taken the liberty to create a collage or cut-up of their work. Overall, the resulting survey of images is truly uplifting, if not inspiring. With 18 photographers displaying over 75 different images, this is perhaps the largest event of its kind. Please join us to celebrate these fine moments in San Diego music history.
